Meh, I tend to randomise the order to spice things up abit. I've been playing through the game from all 6 points of view and 2 half runs that I started over. That's almost 300 hours? The order is pretty moot to me difficulty wise. I have been tackling the haven dragon at ealier and earlier levels though. I'm down to 10 now.

And before someone asks. I'm an unemployed bioware fanatic. I'm planning another run as I write this.

Since people probably didn't read the link I provided I'll post the base scaling again if you want to do it in the easiest to hardest order.

1. All the stuff you can do where you only have that option...

2. level 6+ Redcliffe / Mage Tower

3. level 7+ Brecilian Forest

4. level 8+ Haven

5. level 10+ Orzammar/Denerim

Again that's the base scaling difficulty, you can do it in any order you like, when I was recruiting on my first char I actually did Orzammar first and Brecilian last and I could definitely feel that Orzammar was rather hard and Brecilian was too easy.

My suggestion is to do whatever you need to do to get the companions you need first that is more important than anything.

Everything is doable in any order, as long as you know what you're doing. But by the looks of the all whine posts about difficulty around here it might not be an option.

The tower should be done very early, because of the attribute increases. Plus, I find the Fade part boring and like to have it out of the way. Apart from that there's no need to go in any specific order, and that's how it should be.

From a tactical viewpoint, I'd hit the Circle of Magi first. You get Wynne and you get a bunch of permanent attribute increases.

Orzammar is brutal, but since you're already there you can do the first part of the quest(ie, proving your loyalty to either side), and the sidequests.

The beauty of DA:O is that most of the time you can leave and come back later.

Not after you start circle of the mage.

Lothering -> Circle of Magi (for Wynne) -> anywhere

If you're like my friend and rolled a healer-mage type, do whatever.

Brecilian Forest seemed the easiest to me, so if I went again I might do it first.

Life is easier with all of that elfroot.

just finished ozrimar/deep roads. I started at level 8 and finished at level 13. That shows how large and how much xp you can get in that area. And it is doable at normal difficulty without too much trouble. In fact, it was easier than I had planned. Didn't have to lower the difficulty at all.

Although now I think of it, I forgot to do the the 2 sets of duels. I'll have to go back and do that.

But I finished up to the Anvil. I chose to kill Calin whatever his name was, and side with Branka. The guy was big, but hits like a girl. Even on normal. Required very little healing, and there's enough lyrium in there to keep you up.

This is probably easier as I am a mage origin. Which allowed me to get the right spells for just about any situations.

spells that helped alot: force field, fireball, cone of cold, mind blast (only used occasionally), heal, rejuv, and inferno. That's really all you need. I used Sten as my tank. He doesn't start with much tanking skills so that's why I had to use force field.

I always do the mages tower first. It is the shortest, most linear, and gives lots of benefits. Also the mages come in handy in Redcliffe and for a sidequest in Orzammar.

After the mage's tower I do all the DLC and visit Denerim and do all the quests I can. Then you can do the rest in any order you choose.

Man Orzammar is long so be ready not to come out for awhile if you head down there.

The order depends a lot on what character one plays, I think. A Dalish or a mage may feel best visiting their own people first. A city elf may want to return to Denerim. A dwarven commoner may want to check on their sister and thumb their nose at the upper crust with the new Grey Warden status. Same with a noble for slightly different reasons, maybe. A human noble, which is what I am playing first, seems to have the fewest "ties" or reasons to go anywhere in particular since, sadly, you can't return to Highever. :(

I knew about Wynne so I did the Circle Tower first, and the stat bonuses were a sweet surprise so I can definitely recommend doing it as early as possible. After that I did Redcliffe, then went to Denerim to follow the lead on Brother Genitivi, then to the Forest since it was the closest, then to Haven and the Urn. After that I returned to Denerim, then back to kill the high dragon, back to Denerim again, and hit Orzammar last. I'd taken a peek at the place earlier but decided to return later (my character didn't want to get involved in politics and hoped the dwarves would settle the matter on their own).

Unless you're really keen on getting Oghren early, I think for story reasons and suspense it's best to save Orzammar for last. The Deep Roads, even if they don't really feel like it due to fast travel and small area maps, would be a truly epic journey even for more experienced travellers. And as touching as the climax of the Forest is, or as intense as the high dragon battle is, I think the Deep Roads have the biggest impact.

Small spoiler space, just in case. I know this is a spoiler forum, but not everyone wants every thread to spoil everything, so ... don't look if you don't want to know about what happens in the Deep Roads.

You learn about darkspawn procreation in a truly hideous way. You learn about golems. You see the darkspawn army on the march and even see the sodding archdemon itself! I think doing Orzammar first would make all the other subplots feel decidedly ... quaint in comparison. Especially when you and Alistair later have the archdemon dreams and decide yes, it's really a Blight and the archdemon is scary. Er, yes, having seen the thing in the flesh already, the dreams would be rather superfluous and probably not half as horrible.

End spoiler space. In summary: Circle Tower first, Orzammar last would be my recommendation.

Stone Prisoner (if you have it), Orzimmar (Get Oghren/good equipment/run shale's personal quest/get lots of xp), Mage Tower (Get Wynne/stat bonuses/Morrigan Personal Quest/Oghren's personal quest/good Items), Brecilian Forest, Redcliff, sacred ashes.

I put brecilian forest before redcliff/sacred ashes only because it generaly takes me longer to collect crafting items for elves to bolster their forces in your army than it does just to acquire gold to give to Redcliff's men.

Circle tower for stat boost early on this really helps the melee character use higher level armor and weapons a level or two sooner than otherwise. If you have two plate wearing characters I think elves for the juggernaught set is probably quick and easy to obtain.

No matter what route you go you can visit all the cities early to buy whatever items you need and collect all the chanter board etc quests. Circle tower early for unlimited lyrium powder, Elves for unlimited elfroot, deathroot, and orzammar for the cheapest flasks around if you persuade or intimidate the thugs to stop harassing that one dwarf vendor. Don't kill the thugs or the vendor vanishes. Orzammar also has the "key to the city" melee ring which is easy to obtain simply by running around and reading codex in town. Denerim has the archivist sash for more exp from codex you can grab right away. Also the only grandmaster paralyze rune.

If you can wait on shale till higher level you get better crystals for her from the runthrough but at lower level you get the fantastic melee ring and helm earlier so tough decision there. On a cheat run at level 25 getting shale resulted in all brilliant crystals.

Each area has unique benefits/loot which really depends on your party makeup which is best to do first. I think the only thing that truly makes the game easier no matter your party is the mage tower lyrium and brecilian forest elfroot supplies. Well wardens keep as well for easy loot plus storage.

On my first playtrough, I went.. Redcliffe-> Circle Tower (didn't want to use blood magic in Redcliffe :S) -> Brecilian Forest (I think solely because I had chantry quest nearby and decided do whole thing on the way)-> Sacred Ashes-> Orzammar.

Now, during my second go I went Redcliffe->Circle->Sacred Ashes->Orzammar->Brecilian Forest.

Personally, I think leaving Orzammar to the last might be best, since you'll face a lot foes during that area and need lots of equipment for it. At least if you suck as much as I do :> Both Brecilian and Circle are easy enough, didn't have any trouble with them unless you count certain side quest in the forest involving Revenants. Sacred Ashes isn't too hard, either, since you can leave the big fight for later. So yeah, I'd say whatever the order you do them, perhaps it's best to leave Orzammar line last. Though I have to admit, on next character I actually might go there first XD

Doesn't really matter unless you're focusing on some characters in particular.

Start: Origin, Ostagar, Korcari wilds, Lothering.

Go to Denerim, pick up all side quests. Clear out Denerim bandits. Save the abandoned building if you're too small for later.

Stone Prisoner

Warden's Peak

Run around to all the merchants in Brecilian, Orzammar, Denerim, Bars and sundry and buy gifts for everyone. Christmas at Camp! Everyone loves me! Yay!

IF you want Alistair to like you, go to Arl Eamon and give him the amulet.

IF you want Leliana or Wynne to like you, go to the Urn and be good.

IF you want Wynne, go to Mage's tower.

IF you want Oghren, go to Orzammar.

IF you're evil, don't wipe out the Dalish until you have enough elfroot bought for the rest of the game.

Run back and forth between tower and Brecilian buying up enough lyrium dust and elfroot to make potions and poultices when you have the money. Flasks and lyrium are expensive early on, elfroot's dirt cheap.

Brecilian doesn't have any major faction or characters, I usually save that until last because the Revenant fights can be rough if you're doing the Juggernaut armor. I usually wait until someone can wear it (38 str base)
