I know, I know, everyone loves Garrus.
But not me.
True, I love Garrus as a character. I love his torn personality and his drive to be as noble and strong as Shepard. But never, and this comes from at least twenty playthroughs of both ME1 and ME2, has he ever been anything but a liability on the battlefield.
My main ME2 save game just recently got corrupted, and I was forced to replay the entirety of ME2. After retrieving "Archangel", I was tempted once again to use him as a squadmate. Silly me, I thought he may have changed.
How wrong I was.
All this Turian bastard does is suck and die, every single freaking time I deploy with him. "Look Garrus, enemies!" I shout, only to turn and find him face down in the dirt, bleeding and crying for me to waste my precious medigel on him.
If you do ANYTHING to set ME3 apart from ME2, Bioware, I hope to hell you make Garrus a useful character. More in line with his backstory.
Thoughts?

I have to say that's how I feel. Tali and her shotgun at 50 ft away did more damage.

All joking aside, I wonder sometimes if I got a glitchy copy of ME2. I have had quite a number of small problems, that show up at random times.
This thing with Garrus, as funny as it is, is definitely in that category. I experimented with this problem a little, just to see the results.
On Casual difficulty, I took Garrus and Miranda to a side mission against a blue suns base. I told Garrus to hide behind cover and use his sniper rifle, then sat near him and watched. The blue suns came at us, miranda gunned down several of them, Garrus broke cover, aimed carefully at one of the few remaining soldiers, and promptly fell over dead. From one bullet. On casual.
This is how every fight goes with him. And none of my friends have this issue. Everyone I routinely speak to about it says Garrus kicks ass left and right. Phil even told me his Garrus likes to randomly appear behind the enemy, Kasumi style, and brutally murder his enemies.
So WTF, Bioware? Why do I get Garrus "The Suck" Vakarian, and he gets Garrus "Ultra Badass" Badass?
/Sigh

^ That DOES sound very odd. I've never had any problems with Garrus, he's quite as durable as any other of my companions.

Yeah, that seems weird. He dies in half a second in ME1, but I've had much more luck with him in ME2.

I don't know brother, for me, Garrus has been a last man standing type - matter of fact, if there was going to be a huge Shoot-em up mission, I'd usually pick him and Zheed. With my solider Shepard, it was one ba--- ass fighting group.

I've had other problems. This most recent playthough, I noticed a few small issues, such as characters simply not appearing in their normal spots during between mission downtimes, and enemies who normally have armor and shields simply having a health bar, and nothing else.
Playthrough before this, ALL of the probes I had launched in the playthrough before that STAYED IN PLACE, I ended up having to scrimp and scavenge for resources through the entire game. It was miserable.
So yeah, WTF? I think my Garrus just got caught in the glitchy crossfire.

Wow, you've got a massively glitched game - maybe a time for a full re-install, and re-patching?
I've experienced very few glitches with ME2 - though on my last playthrough there was a funny one in Tali's loyalty mission - when going to the courtroom the first time, the game skipped to the after-the-initial-showdown dialogue, where I had agreed to take back the Alarai - and all the people in the court room were on one side of the room, lined up in what resembled a military formation.
Reloaded an earlier save, and the glitch didn't repeat.
