It's no more ridiculous than wearing a hoodie and a leather jacket.
Except those are casual wear.
Like the term "Casual Wear", when you're cycling through these outfits, suggests.
Wearing a short leather/possibly pvc dress, with gaudy jewelry isn't "casual". Not to mention, the "N7" logo is terribly out of place on the evening wear.
But the issue is that the FemShep outfits play to feminine stereotypes, when the Male outfits can very easily be gender neutral, instead of male-specific. Obviously, the best course of action would be to make the casual outfits for both genders completely customizable, so the player decides what their Shepard looks like. Since this isn't the case, however, both genders should be given the same gender-neutral outfits to start out with. If we want to go shopping at Space Giggles during the game, then we should - it's just baffling though that this is the female version of the jacket, when the jacket should be for both genders.
Eh. Dude Shep has at least two suits in his closet in my ME2 game. Pretty sure the casual dress thing was not meant to be taken that seriously.
Casual dress just means not armor.

How about you wear a skirt and heels for a day.BillsVengenace wrote...
Well obviously for work a nice skirt, blouse and jacket are fine.
Pants are the best thing to ever happen to my legs. Ever.
Women had to go through a lot worse to look classy in the past.
Is it really so much to wear a skirt (not mini) and high heels?
Is it really so hard to make that tiny bit of effort to make the day a little brighter?

As for the jacket, no that's exclusively Sheploo unfortunately.

I think that would be taking the
term too literally. A better term would have been "Alternate Attire" or
"Hub Clothes" or something.
Fine. Let me put it
this way. When it comes to storytelling in a visual medium, what a
character wears usually has an impact on our first impression of them. I believe it was you who said:

Only chavs, junkies and blingers think hoodies are stylish.
So your impression of Shepard if (s)he was introduced as wearing a hoodie would be that (s)he is either a "chav, junkie, or blinger", am I correct?
In terms of the dress - it looks more like she's going out for a night on the town, than awaiting trial/walking around on the Normandy. And to top it off, it's not attractive. It's a cheap dress, and as I've mentioned prior, it looks like something you'd buy at Space Giggles. My FemShep, and most players FemSheps I'd bet, have no reason to wear that. The only outfit that would suit the personality of my FemShep would be the leather jacket.

I agree that dress is inappropriate for pretty much anything in Shepard's life at that time.
I would personally put her in a military skirt, blouse and have a removable beret (French).

If high heels and a dress is casual, I assume that this is formal.

Women only wear military skirts as part of a dress uniform in a formal setting. How deeply rooted are your gender roles exactly?
I'm suddenly reminded of Jack's alternate look. It's a little weird, they got it right once, why take two steps back now?

I may not agree with your choice, personally, but this is why the casual wear should be customizable, just as our armor is.

You think all military women only wear skirts for formal settings? That's liberal over-exaggeration.
