I don't mind batarians, I just wish they weren't all shown as "bad guy" types in the ME series. I'm sure there's batarians that act differently, just like every other race. They can't all be slavers and thieves and murderers.

Your absolutely right. Not all Batartians are slavers, thieves and murderers. Some are slaves, others are poor because all their stuff was stolen, and still others are murder victims, though there is a lot of overlap between these groups. Poor people who were taken as slaves after all their stuff was stolen, slaves who are murdered by their masters, and people who are murdered by the thieves while trying to defend their stuff.

I was actually really hoping for a Batarian squadmate, oddly enough. All the ones we meet are criminals who escaped their brutal government, probably barely with their lives. But I know under a government like that, there has to be a significant portion of the population that's benevolent. I mean, yea, some stuff like slavery is kinda ingrained in their culture... but is it? How much of their "culture" is really the doing of the "omnipresent and paranoid" hegemony?
