I think batarians are a cool species. Undeniably bad and immoral, but not outright evil like the reapers. I think the personal history batarians have with many people's Shepards give them a lot of room for development.

I hope they aren't all husks in ME3.

They can't ALL be terrible people. Garrus had a Batarian in his squad on Omega, so clearly there are some with a sense of justice. If we hadn't resolved our problem with Turians we'd probably assume they are all immoral terrible aliens too.

Personally I'm pretty sad that, of all the bipedal species in ME universe, two of them that have been around since the very first installment: Volus and Batarian, will never be squadmates. Unless they're useless DLC down the line. Volus I understand, though I'm sure there's at least one awesome Volus biotic. Batarians however are badass fighters, they're closer to Krogan than any other species, and we just kill them all the time.

Made-to-hate is boring. The Batarians could be interesting, and still be evil.

Not someone sympathetic, but maybe a more pragmatic person from the establishment. A secret policeman, or intelligence agent. Someone who might be a 'good' Batarian, but not a sympathetic wubbie.

I don't mind them, per se, but if we got a Batarian squadmate... and he hated humans... Let's just say, I'd be less than pleased.

I think the Batarians could be interesting if they were given more diversity than human-hating pirates. The sick Batarian on Omega was very refreshing for the 180 he did when you saved his life. I've also heard that Bring Down the Sky was well done, though I've never played it.
