Modern 2d isometric graphics.... love it! Yet abit disapointed as i was hoping for a new game, in comparison to diablo III or such....
Still happy, especially with the Wasteland 2 news and all...

I wonder if the graphics will be better and be more widescreen (HD) friendly.

On the plus side, there'll be new content by some of the original developers.

I don't have twitter, but Sorceror's Place Boards o'Magick's Taluntain posted some tweets from Trent Oster, the man behind Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition. And there seems to be reason for much rejoicing.
I for one think the following quotes from his tweets are good news:
"Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition is going to have new content for the game you love, made by some of the original team members"
"We take mods seriously. (I led NWN after all) mods both current and future are important. More announcements to come"
"We're using the 2nd Edition D&D rules."
That's 3 times good news! Next week there will be screens posted on baldursgate.com. I'm hoping for improved graphics like in Temple of Elemental Evil or Arcanum: 2D Isometric, but with more gleam and detail to it.

This is the most exciting news I've heard in years! I feel like I've died and gone to Heaven!
Someone in the business finally noticed what we've been doing here all these years and realized that we are all willing to throw our every dollar at their feet for more Baldur's Gate!
Note to moderators: Since it appears that you guys are shutting down other threads that discuss the new Baldur's Gate other than this one, perhaps a sticky would be in order? Thank you, thank you, thank you, to all our wonderful moderators!
I'm so excited by this news, I feel like giving a group hug and a big "I love you" to everybody in the forum! <3

Wow, I was totally wrong (and cynical) about their willingness (chutzpa) to remake the game entirely in a new format. They're actually going to keep BG similar to its original appearance. Amazing... BG's original gameplay survives yet another challenge and lays down foundations for another era... I will very much be wanting to try out this "enhanced" version, and, yes, I sure do hope at least some of the mods are compatible... though at first I'll have to play "vanilla enhanced vanilla" hehe
It's hard to determine what actually is different about this new version... Funny the baldursgate.com site just sort of ended in 0:00 with no links anywhere. The link Son of Imoen gave links to a site which ultimately only answers that long countdown with: "Stay tuned for more information."

@Bhryaen, they've had some trouble with their server. I'd like to think it's because the server has been overloaded with hits since they put it up.
They've actually got the skeleton of a fully developed website up over there, but sometimes you have to click it several times before you get in. My own browser keeps giving me an "internet explorer cannot display the website" error message until the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th time I try to enter the site.
P.S. - that link is out of date. You need to reenter "baldursgate.com" into your browser window to get the current site.
2nd P.S. - never mind. I just followed all the possible clicks, and it does end on the screen you describe. My perception and memory are already heavily influenced by the tweets I've read and the Sorcerer's Place posts.

Interesting! As a fan, I'll certainly keep my eyes open for this little gem.
But, I'll hold my excitement for actual in-game screens, especially that of the revamped or redrawn areas, HUD and character representation while moving about in the world. Available screen resolution is also a must.
FP!

Joy?
The only thing that is exciting is BG1 using the ToB IE engine.

Nope. It's using the version after that one.
The two richest sources of info are

I saw their work on Bioware's earlier MDK2. They didn't change much of anything, just added polish and fixed bugs. Still looked good though.
But anyway, link if interested:

On his tweet Oster keeps saying the right things:
- we would never change the music... The music in Baldurs Gate is EPIC. Michael Hoenig set the bar for every other #bioware game
- we are trying hard not to break mods... We've looked into a lot of the mods out there. We're trying to figure it all out. I troll gibberlings3 all the time... We're very interested in supporting the modding community and hopefully kicking off even more mods... We take mods seriously. (I led NWN after all) mods both current and future are important. More announcements to come... [Move over Tutu/BGT! Now there's EnhancedBG! "Trying to figure it all out" sounds like they're only just now seeing all the mod content there is... I also wonder which mods they're working with and how they're determining what to select...]
- If by today's graphics standards you mean lots of 3D rendering, no. We're 2D isometric all the way
Here's a funny one... "we're summoning a new server. Hopefully it has more hit points... The servers aren't screaming. They are shooting flames!... So, with the fire trucks rolling for the #baldursgate servers, we're trying to stay way from the flames" lol He adds this link...
