When I first learned of this project, my initial response was, "Hey, at least BioWare isn't making it!" Then I realised the implications of what I had just said...that BioWare has fallen so far in my regard that I no longer trust them to remake the game that made them famous.

As for BG3...as others have asked, what would it b about:? The Bhaalspawn's story came to a very definite conclusion in TOB...he may, for instance, have ascended to godhood, which one would think would preclude him/her from taking part in another adventure.

I was also pleasantly surprised to learn that it will use AD&D 2e rules. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't WOTC require that any game with the D&D licence use the 4e ruleset?

seriously, you people don't want more fun strategic 2d gameplay? there is no reason why there shouldn't be more games like that, originally there was going to be baldur's gate 3 which would have had nothing to do with the bhaalspawn story, baldur's gate is only a damn city i keep repeating. besides, even if we wouldn't get to play as a bhaalspawn there still could be some old characters that really made baldur's gate so great.

Playing DAO in 3D was great, don't get me wrong, but I am glad this game will stay 2D.  I really can't wait to see the art in the backgrounds with an updated graphics, and of course the character portraits.  Could Vic be any cuter?

I'm wondering if they'll use the same portraits for bgee or they will use portraits from bg2, i remember trent oster tweeting that he's a fan of icewind dale portraits or something so maybe they'll even update portraits.i personally prefer bg2 portraits over bg1.

Yes.  What do you think we've been talking about here?

What I want to see is some screenshots of the Enhanced graphics and interface.  Anything would be better than the old 800x600 res that BG1 had.

640x480 actually. BG2 was 800x600. :)

They could be adding screenshots as well as the other announcements this Thursday.

There are a few loopholes in the game. That is all I'm saying on it.Don't want to make any spoilers if they do decide to use them. So the story can easily continue where it left off.

By the way, bioware haven't any connection to new baldur's gate game. Atari and overhaul game are. Maybe there won't be blue, red and green ending after all.

1024 x something was also available, but god everything was so tiny in that resolution.

Actually, now that he mentions it, I can think of a few things too. The problem is, fro7k, that this thread has emerged in the no-spoilers forum, and any discussion of the end of Throne of Bhaal necessitates mentioning huge, godzilla-sized spoilers.

Maybe the moderators would allow a thread in the BG2 spoilers forum to discuss BG3 story speculation. But we can't do it here.

Personally I'm hoping BG3 will just be what TOB should have been from the start. I felt a series of such epic proportions deserved a third installment to finish the series of the same scope as SOA. It's probably not the highest likelyhood, though...

I must have missed the earlier link in my quick trawl through. I just hope they don't go so far overboard enhancing it that only uber machines can play it...

At L40, any BG3 couldn't really continue with the same protagonist. What would work instead would be a prequel.

Baldur's Gate 3: Rangers and Hamsters
The epic story of one hero, and his faithful beserker companion, as events unfold which will throw them into the world-changing story of Baldur's Gate I and II.

They should really just pick up BG3: the Black Hound again, because 1) it was 80% done before it was canceled, and 2) it was planned to be the first part of a new trilogy itself.

Some ultra powerful God uses his/her powers to make you level one again, but with the attributes that you had at the end of BG2.
Why? If you had the answer to that, you would know how BG3 finishes..

yes but there wouldn't have been any old characters. they should make bg3: the black hound and add some of the old characters.

Wouldn't the old characters also be extremely powerful? Unless they have all been level drained with a powerful spell that cannot be countered with restoration?

Some new Oster tweets: "We've got five former Bio people working with us now. We'll likely be adding another two soon. Five worked on BG/BG2..."

Niiiice... So the gang's getting back together for this!

Also in answer to my query about how UB might be addressed: "we're big admirers of the content Dave {Gaider} did. We'll be looking into unfinished business and what can be done"

So they haven't seen the UB content yet, eh? Does this mean Gaider was on the original BG team as well? I have to admit I'm liking Gaider's work myself. Hard to know if he was the Cleese of Monty Python, but Python isn't quite the same without all the members either, nor Pink Floyd the same without Waters, but I digress... A couple of the "Fantastic Four" mentioned by Belgarath write fiction on the side as well and were in BG1 or 2. On that note though, I'll withold lauding them until we see the finished product...

The only difficulty I'd have with Black Hound coming out now is that there's that wiki out there you mentioned earlier in the thread that tells all the essential features of the story already. Sort of anticlimactic for the wait, and I wasn't impressed with the storyline, at least as it was described. Still, a variant might be really good to see, and if it was intended as another trilogy, maybe there's more to the story. Maybe I'm just disappointed at no longer being a deity in BG3... Hard to come down from that...

BH was also intended for 3EDnD rules, so it would be curious to see it out in NWN1's DnD configuration. I like 3E better than 2E, less difficult to work with, more options, and all attributes were useful. In BG you can keep INT or WIS at 3 with no consequence. BH was also supposed to use the NWN1 360 Aurora engine, so... unless they're intending to reconvert BH to isometric...

I wish I could get a list of all the top people involved in this "BG Master Plan" and have their relationship to BG mentioned next to them... but it would feel like I'm part of the BG Orthodoxy Police conducting an interrogation...

Interrogator: "And you call yourself a devotee of BALDUR?? Where is your Helm? Your Cloak? Imposter! Boo, take his eyes out..."
BGEE Rep: "Wait, no, I'll recant! I'm just a Neverwinter and DAO guy, but I mean well!"

Might be nice if there were a BG General Discussion (Spoilers Allowed) thread, but... us BG fans are all just called Peasant around here hehe

Wouldn't it be great if they could get the original VA cast - people like David Warner, Jim Cummings, Kevin Michael Richardson, Kath Soucie, etc. to record all-new dialogue for the characters, further fleshing out their personalities and motivations?

Like revealing, for example, that when Irenicus cried "To end? LIKE THIS???" at the end of BG2, he was really talking about the Mass Effect 3 endings.

But being seriously, it'd be great to have the original cast back, but that's probably a bit too much to hope for at this point.

There are a couple of unused plot lines that could be developed, e.g. Yoshimo-Tamoko being siblings, etc.

@Viromor, that's a spoiler. I'm all for free discussion about this topic, though. Moderators, what's the solution for this? Could we move it to BG2 spoilers, perhaps? Or start a new forum for "General Discussion Spoilers" as Bhyraen suggested.

I do fear that this whole thing is quite a conundrum for our esteemed forum moderators, because the BGEE project technically has nothing to do with Bioware, and this is a Bioware site. They have, in the past, been quite strict about not allowing any discussion about Icewind Dale at all. So, I'm not sure what the answer is, here. Perhaps they will look the other way about spoilers in this particular thread?

@Bhyraen: Thank you so much for being such a diligent and good community member by keeping us all up to date in one place! Thanks to your efforts, I know I can just check this thread every day to get the latest on BGEE. You are a very good friend! I still remember that you spent hours and hours of your time trying to give us a modding manual and get it stickied. I'm sorry that didn't seem to work out, but I can't tell you enough how much I appreciate you, man.
