I'd love to have a batarian squaddie. But only if he's the classic Batarian archetype of a cavalier, arrogant guy who thinks he's better than everyone else. Brags about his trickshots and how well he cleans his armor, and if you bring him along in combat, most of his banter is bragging about how much better he's fighting than Shep and Squaddie #2.

Sometimes its hard to tell if people are just role playing or just don't like the Batarians. I obviously support a Batarian squadmate for ME3. This person could shed light on cultural misunderstandings between Humans and Batarians. Before hating on Batarians their was hating on Turians.

I compare this dislike with modern day prejudice towards radical Islamist. Your obviously a fool if you think all Muslims want to blow up something. The attitude towards Batarians and Humans is only encouraged by their insistent propaganda and totalitarian government.

I want a batarian squadmate. It was #1 on my Mass Effect 3 wishlist, and now it's #1 on my DLC wishlist.

I find it sad that we'll never have a Batarian Squadmate. We barely know anything about them, and we still won't know because it seems to me Bioware hates them as much as alot of other people do. Shame that many judge them based on their totalitarian government, and the fact that the hegemony only allows criminals to leave Batarian space.

I got an ida about their history and culture if your interested.

Batarians were the original peacekeeper race, they had the largest fleet, best trained soilders, best military technology, and the attitude about warfare needed to make them a reliably protection force, much like the turians were. They brought advanced knowledge of large ship transportation and sorbital construction, from experience building large military vessels, and even knowledge on healing technology(this was hinted at in revelation), hck, you could even work a subplot about the batarians helping to build the destiny ascention as a sign of peace between the council races and batarians. They kept their personal culture and unique views of other sepcies to themselves, and reaped the rewards of being the best fighting force the citidel had to offer, and for 200 years the batarians and citidel space experience a cultural exchange renaissance.

And than the rachni war starts, and the batarians fall hard. They lose most of their forces, they can't handle fighting an enemy with superior survival ability, numbers, and coordination(hive mind). They begin loosing ground and are on the verge of collapse when the STG bring out the krogan, who not only push the rachni back, but utterly obliterate them. The krogan replace the batarians, weakened by the rachni, as guardinas of the galaxy, and than begin colonizing other worlds very quickly, and with an aggression unmatched by other races, not even batarian. Their 500 year colonization efforts pushes into other species territories, batarian space is  seized and annexed, the once might fleet to weak to defend themselves. The batarians are alienated from the council races, bitter about being replaced by krogan, fearful that they will drive them out of their own system, and hateful at the old regime for not taking action. The spectars are formed, the krogan rebillion happens, the turians are introduced and replace krogan as main protection force, and the batarians are outrage about not being restored to their former glory, but replced by another warfaring species. Angered at their goverments failed ability to further batarians causes, the inability to restore military dominance, and the feeling of being lumped together with other "inferior" races of council space, they go through a revolution, and create a new goverment that will put batarians first and foremost, and restore their status as the greatest and most superior race in the galaxy, The Hegemony is formed.

The Batarian Hegemony puts emphisis on returning batarians to a pre-council ideal, with old cultural pratices like slavery and the caste system forcebly reinstated. They bring about them plans to ramp up military consatrction of warships, and aggresive expansion to other systems. Skirmishes break out several times during this period(roughly 1500 years), coloniez from other species are taken over, and the batarians continue to become more culturally insolated and hostile and antagonistic to other races( a good example would the geth rebellion, while most see a tradgedy, the batarian hegemony says that the quarians got what they deserved for stealing batarians cultural values of caste and slavery, and using synthetics instead of organic slaves.). Humans show up and begin advancing rapidly, the hegemony attempts to use the council, than their own seceret forces to attack humanity and lose. They are pushed back into their own system, where the hegemony declares a peremntant wartime emmergency, and seals the system off, preventing anyone from comming or gong  from the system.

Now, the hegemony keeps tight contro voer their own system, excileing dangerous criminals out into the galaxy to reak havoc while keeping everyone else in a permanent police state. The feeling that batarians have would probably be of dispair, having once been so far on top, and having sunk so low. They would also feel bitter towards other races for their self-imposed issolation, refusing to compromise and change with the rest of the galaxy and blaming them for their problems. They would, in essence, be like many musslim countires today, they were once the pinicale of civilization, and now rank amoung the poorest and most represted countries in the world. They are, for lack of a better analogy, the Iran or Syria of mass effect, once great nations crippled by cruel dictators and forces beond their control, blaming everyone else and reperesing any form of dessent. Only batarians don't have allies to rely on.

And with this I part on a line I think would sum up the situation nicley, given we ever get to talk to a batarian,

"We were great once...We had power, respect, even a seat on the council...than the Hegemony came, and ruined any chance we had to be great again."

I'd only like a Batarian squadmate if he was a hardened, callous and arrogant badass who's actually sensitive and soft on the inside. Soft on the inside, because I'd find out by transecting his trunk with an M-96 Mattock loaded with HEIAP rounds.

Batarian's aren't the highest on my list, but I'm surprised it didn't happen. I think it'd be cool to have one on board.

Just make him carry an AR and we'll call him part-combat.

I would've rather had a Batarian crewmember (the lieutenant from Bringing Down the Sky in ME1 would make sense if by canon he didn't die, but it would retcon some people's decisions) than the Prothean...it just makes more sense, if you can look past the nerd nosebleed of having a Prothean on your squad.

As future DLC it could be good. People were calling for a batarian squadmate months prior to the game's announcement, I'm surprised they didn't put one into the vanilla game.
