I got a Quarian Engineer with my starter pack, I think. That, or the first veteran pack I bought.

There's a 15% chance to get a gold character unlock in each vet pack. With six characters that can be unlocked, that gives a 2.5% chance to unlock the Krogan Soldier per pack. That's 40 packs on average, though obviously Lady Luck means it could take you a longer or shorter time to unlock it.
This math is wrong. So very, very wrong. First of all, there are 18 characters to unlock. Second, you can get a character OR a weapon, I've never seen both at once. There are at least two of each weapon type to unlock, with ten levels to unlock, plus nine levels to unlock of what you start with. Altogether, that's 163 possible unlocks, making the chances of getting a Krogan Soldier out of that mix less than half a percent.

First, only 6 in the demo, which is what we're currently playing. Second human male and female will likely be both unlocked from the start based on mp preview videos. Third, you count each weapon 10 times because of 10 levels to the gun, that is incorrect, you can't unlock a carnifax X before carnifax I, so each weapon only counts once. Fourth, the liklihood of each unlock is not the same, gold unlocks are rarer, so saying that just because there's 163 unlocks you have a 1/163 chance of unlocking something, is wrong.
As for the 15% gold character unlock, I don't know if that's true or not, but I do know everything you said was wrong.

I read that and all I heard was "derp derp derp".
You really have NO CLUE what you're talking about.
There's only 6 in the demo? I've gotten cards for each human class at least once, plus I've unlocked two other classes on top of that. That's 8 right there. I know other people have obtained more classes that I don't have. So add them up.
Preview videos aren't set in stone. I recall an entirely different interface for weapon modifications in previews. And as we've already seen, we still get the same cards even after unlocking them. If anything, the odds are reduced even further.
You get weapon upgrades one at a time. There are ten chances to get any particular weapon. Your example, the Carnafex, you don't get Carnafex X right off, that's true, but that doesn't make only Carnafex I avaliable. In fact, there are no Carnafex of any rank, it's only "Carnafex" and the game slaps on the appropriate number for the level that you're at. I have a college degree in programming. That is the easiest way to program the selection process. Otherwise, it would take the Carnafex X, check what you have, then redraw, creating more lines of coding, more chances for errors, and the player just lost a Carnafex.
So some are rarer? They don't appear as often? Then that means the odds of getting one particular drop EVEN MORE. Even IF there is a 15% chance, that means that 85% of the time, you'll be getting repeats of what you already have. That 2.5% is ENTIRELY unrealistic. At this point, you're probably looking at less than 0.2%.
Next time, you might want to try to actually know something before you open your yap.

Poor, poor child, based on the fact that you only have 2 class unlocks I think you need more experience before acting like an expert.
With a veteran box the *ONLY* thing that matters is the final card, which is an uncommon or rare. Therefore it will *not* be a human unlock, so you can throw those out. How many class unlocks does that leave for the demo? 6.
As for the Caranfax, let's simplify this for you. If there were only 2 cards, that had equal drop rates, carnifax and krogan soldier, but the carnafax had 10 levels, you do not count it 10 times, (changing the odds to about 90% chance of carnafax..) and even if you did there are an infinate number of class unlocks, so that would completely imbalance in favor of the class.
Now for the 15% theory...this just digs your grave of incompetence. If you assume there is a 15% drop rate, then that means you have a 15% chance to draw a class (seriously, how stupid are you to not realize this?). Now, we'll go really slow here, if your roll falls into the 15% you are then going to get a character card, you understand that right, you don't just say "well, lets throw in more 85%, because I don't understand statistics", at this point the you have already narrowed the pool down to the last 15%, the rest is irrelevenet. There are 6 classes to unlock, which gives you a 2.5% rate for each of them. In other words there is a 2.5% of drawing a SPECIFIC class card, but a 15% of drawing ANY class card, understand yet?
Let's throw some common sense at you now. .2%, you serious? If that was the case you would average 1 krogan soldier unlock per 500 boxes. 2.5% leaves it about 40 boxes, which is more or less reasonable to people's experience.

Apparently that degree in programming didn't come with a basic probability theory course. Which is odd, since those degrees are generally handed out by math departments.
Just stop. You're losing. Badly.
