Well, they could be slightly smaller and slighter than males (following some types of bird dimorphism). A shorter fringe or no fringe (like in the comics). Round their mandibles a bit and soften up their features (less hard angles on their face plates and larger eyes), Then add a female voice and there you go. No breasts whatsoever.

They could probably get away with giving them the same animations as male turians.

I like your idea very much. Give them some obvious feminine features with avian qualities. And I don't think they need breasts their not even mammals but then again what about Asari or Qurians.

Its pretty much canon that turian females dont have breasts. The presidium groundskeeper in that one club says he's just transfered from Palaven and doesnt really know anything about aliens. He asks femshep if she's female, since she has 'those funny bumps, like an asari'

Or he would have if Bioware hadnt cut all of his lines! Damn you Bioware! *shakes fist*

I remember Derek Watts (Art Director) saying something like "How are we going to have female Turians? What? should we just put lipstick on the male models"

There's probably some decent fanart down there, though knowing ME fans you'd probably have to sort through a lot of strange stuff. You'd get hazard pay for that.

They must be the luckiest females in the ME universe, then: At least they won't get any excruciating back pains.

(With that emaciated torso, Miranda must be in constant pain; maybe that's why she's so grumpy.)

This is where artists need to shut up, and go talk to someone more versed in science. If you can't think of something that looks good, start with something functional. Then work from there.

Pick an identifier, something that isn't critical for the performance of their body. So the ridge, is one characteristic. Size could be another. Hands could be another one. Just make it subtly different. Descending from avian ancestors should help designing an interesting species. Perhaps females have more plate ridges elsewhere? Remnants of feathers? Or equivalent? Thick or thin. Then you also need to decide how they feed children. So breasts are out. Are children just born capable of eating stuff? Or do Turians grossly regurgitate?

Answering lots of these questions gets you a good idea of how they should look.

Edit
A very common way might be a more elongated/thin neck line. Perhaps their plate ridges are a little speckled with another metal of some kind. This would make them much more noticable.

Edit2
Eggs? Or children? Either way, how do these survive in the higher radiation? Perhaps the eggs themselves are covere din a metalic like substance to keep them alive. The first thing Turians might do is thicken thei rplates while growing. Leading to a cut look with over sized plates as the child grows. Or perhaps the egg incubates inside of the Turian. In this case hips are likely going to be needed to allow for this to happen inside of her. Then after x duration out comes an egg with a Turian child a little more formed and thus protected against radiation.

I'm inclined to beleive that Turians are capable of eating food right from birth due to the lack of ability for the mother to supply it with any food. So this would lend mothers to a little bit more of a foraging mentality where they need to keep a well stocked supply of food to feel safe so the newborn can eat. Perhaps a cultural norm is stocking up on food in advance of childbirth. Who knows right? So some sort of difference fomr their male counterpart evolutionary that way. So perhaps larger eyes.

Just start thinking about it.

^ Yeah if they'd wanted to do it, they could have done it. Just lazy effort not to put in turian females.

How the heck are Salarian females "rare"? How does a species even survive like this, what with their females being rare?

Because they lay a gazillion eggs.

I simply cannot understand how it can be so hard for PROFESSIONAL F***ing ARTISTS(!!!) to design a Turian and then NOT be able to design a female Turian. And NO, the ones in the Dark Horse comics dont count, besides they dont even look like they are the same species as the males.

Take a look at this.

asurael-returns.deviantart.com/art/Female-Turian-154605246

THAT is how you do it. Simple subtle tweeking, nothing extreme, nothing outrageous and not very difficult (maybe not Exaclty like that, but the core idea of it) You can see it is a female, it actually looks like it is the same species as a male turian, not overly sexy by our standards and no "Funny-bumps".

Granted I admit the picture i linked isnt perfect, but as I said the core idea of it is the main point. If that example is still "too sexy" for someone, you can tweek it to look more "Masculine" or whatever you need from it. Plus there was the whole thing witht the comment Garrus made during his romance scene, granted you could spend a whole weekend debatting about what he actually meant, but still.

Also on a different, but very realted note, assuming that twitter comment is genuine then that would mean some of the "Background Turians" (new sub-species, everyone! :P ) from Mass Effect 1 & 2 were infact Female. And every Background Turian we've seen has those "Horns" (I'll call them horns since some people seem to think that "Head Fringe" is an invalid term) on them, meaning if some of those turians really were female then they DO HAVE "horns" and the Dark Horse comic is just full of [Insert foul word of your choice here].

So now if they give us female Turians in Mass Effect 3 and they dont have horns, or look likethey did in ME: Evolution, then they will have flat out lied to us. Logic will inherit the Earth.....eventually.

So there, a simple solution to something which should have been a simple matter, but had somehow gotten so complicated.

I mean no offense to anyone, apologies if I have offended anyone.

Exactly, I don't know how's that any hard to design. We don't demand super sexy dinosaurs here, we just want every species represented properly so the world is more belivable and a wider range of characters can be introduced.

Real Answer: Because Bioware is only interested in making female versions of aliens if the aliens are hawt space bisexuals.

*looks at Quarians and female Krogans*

I remember hearing that and getting really upset.  It seems like a short-sighted view (not to insult Watts at all).  I honestly don't see a problem with BioWare just removing the males' head fringe and calling them female.  I'd be perfectly fine with that.

Yeah, thats why it's hard for me to believe the tweet all of a sudden because Watts is quoted in the video as saying:

They’re all males in the game. We usually try to avoid the females because what do you do with a female Turian? Do you give her breasts? What do you do? Do you put lipstick on her? There’s actually some of the concept artists will draw lipstick on the male one and they’ll say “Hey, it’s done” and we’ll go “No, can you take this serious?”

So, all of a sudden they're hard to differentiate yet before the art director said they were never there to begin with? Confusing.

I don't think the Turians should be so hard to tell apart from one another gender wise.

I would suspect the Salarians might be, since they seem like they wouldn't have much gender differentiation unless they have more colors and what not.
