I know it's gotten off-topic, but I assume most of us have been playing games long enough to not care about the gender of the player.

If you know how to aim downrange and understand that objectives are things that need doing, then we'll get along just fine. Regardless of gender. ^^

Objectives? What are these things you speak of? I know only the subtle art of the downed trooper.

Hahaha. If I was a Krogan soldier, I too would partake heavily in that art of destruction :P

Also, I play it on the Xbox360. My name is also my GT. It's so hard to find groups >_<

I know what you mean. The moment I say "hi" or "hello" I already feel like I'm being treated diffirently... Guys start talking diffirently, as if they're talking to a child...

Some start being protective, attacking the enemies I attack in a feigned attempt to get it's attention.

Guys! 80% of the time, I play infiltrator. I got cloak! I can take care of myself! I don't need you to go tank the person I'm trying to headshot! I don't need you to take the bullets for me, cause 9/10 times you'll be standing in front of my scope (which is really frustrating I might add)! Image IPB

I also play Sentinel and my build is centered around maximum shields through Fitness and damage reduction through Tech Armor. If anything I should be tanking you, not the other way around.

and lastly I also have an asari adept, centered around maximum Bionic Barrier, maximum power recharge reduction time and bubble stasis. Again here I don't need special treatment, if I'm in trouble I can spam bubble stasis = trouble solved.

Stop giving me the 'Knight in shining armor' routine. Believe it or not, I can actually take care of myself!

But there are also times where I'm being met with scorn. As if to say cause I'm a girl, I'm going to die on every wave or I can't aim properly... Image IPB

P.S.: I'm on the PC by the way. Image IPB

You know, it's not about helping ladies or anything like that (well I sure as hell have never even thought about that). Most just want to clean the filed as quickly as possible and I like to shoot things, in the face. This is co-op MP so in theory it shouldn't matter who gets the most kills. Sometimes it can be a bit annoying if you are snipping then Nova happy Vanguard charges in. But that's how it goes, I just try to head shoot the bastards before those semi-melee classes sweep the board.

Besides, I don't have a crystal ball that tells me if there are girls in my squad. Even if I know that I do not alter my playing style in any way. Unless you introduce yourself in some weird way I do not think that other male gamers would really care. You are actually wrong if you think that 80% of male gamers think that we tend to somehow "protect" or "help" ladies while gaming.

EXCUSE ME!? I do not believe you paid the appropriate fees in order to borrow my combat style, nor have I seen you at even ONE of my seminars.

I think I'll sign up for one of these seminars~  The arts of the Tuchankan headsmash is~ intriguing to me.
Perhaps I could armourplate my stormtrooper deathmask helmet to allow the same volatile smashing as a Krogan without cracking like an egg.

My friend plays, but she doesn't use voice chat and generally 'pretends' to be male just to avoid the attention.

I'm a male. My sister is an avid gamer (influenced by my avid gaming, no doubt)
I played WoW for a while and she liked it, got her own account, and started playing.
It wasn't long before she realized how much attention she got because she was a girl.
It got to a ridiculous point. She was too young and I tried to explain to her that she didn't need the attention of some random internet goon for her to feel confident about herself.

She ignored it. It wasn't long before she gave some army guy our house number and he started calling consistently. Of course once my dad answered the phone, that stopped real quick.

I thought she had learned her lesson, but she did it yet again a year or two later. She's a pretty girl, so it's not like she's desperate for attention either. But I realized that as long as she was playing something like WoW, I don't think she'd be able to resist it. Luckily, she no longer plays WoW, and now sticks to more single player games (Skyrim at the moment)  I've tried desperately to get her into Mass Effect, but to no avail.  Sometimes I wonder if she bushes it off simply because I play it.

Anyway, that's my little story. To those who enjoy the attention they get from guys in video games, if it makes you happy then so be it. Just don't give your house number to a random guy from the Army xD

Also: As someone with a personal understanding of this topic, if there are any who would like to play with someone who won't turn into a neanderthal at the sound of a female voice, feel free to add me, mic or no. I have a mic, so as long as you don't mind my sexy James Earl Jones voice (just kidding I'm 23 but look and sound 17 :\\ )
Cheers.

I always assume characters in pink colors are female players.... then I realize their username is g.i.joe007 and I am disappointed.

Fun fact: Pink for girls and blue for boys is a relatively modern association. Originally, pink was considered the color for young boys as it was a derivative of red, a masculine color. Blue was associated with femininity and the Virgin Mary.

Well, ain't that a kick in a head?

It's a good thing to know in the workplace, too. If someone disagrees with the direction you take a project you just head butt them.

I have been playing mass effect 3 multiplayer online (for xbox360) every single day since its come out and its so weird that I have not found any girls besides my self playing. Are there anyout there?? It would be cool if we could form a team and show cerebus what femshep can do

My xbox live username is ~ kazumasoju

Anyone else experience the same thing?? <3

PS I really want asari vanguard

Maybe this was already said (if so, sorry for repeat) - Check out femshep.com

dunno exact #s, but about 1/2 users are female, I'd wager. I've played several all-female teams so far on MP and it was a blast.

(i'm PC though, or I'd add you as friend)

I am glad your dad put a stop to that.   People really are that sick there is a very thick line between being friendly and stalker.  this is why I can see ladies having issue sounding out in MP.

It could be that they don't use a mic while playing with strangers. You've probably played with lots of girls and you just don't know it.

I am frankly quite tired with how a lot of gamers, regardless of gender, seem to think that female gamers are a rare commodity. When in fact, it's quite the opposite. It's just that most seem to hide their gender, which further propogates the stigma that they're rare.

And unfortunately, most seem to hide their gender thanks to the few of them that use their gender as a focal point for "attention-whoring" online. They tend to be the ones with handles such as "xGamerGurlx" or "CaliCutie"(both of which I have seen before) and immediately make it known to the game lobby that they are, in fact, females. I think we've all dealt with a few of those before.

But really girls. Don't feel as if you have to hide the fact that you are a girl. If you want to protect your privacy, than by all means do so. But, if you have a mic, just play as the guys do. Once guys realize that female gamers are more common than they believed and are just as good as them, than I'm sure you'd be helping to lift the negative stereotype that unfortunately surrounds you guys(girls).

Yes, I understand this is unlikely to happen. But one can dream, no?

well, male community in video games is large, and i don't mean in comparison to woman community, it's just soo freakin' large, but not everyone is a creep

on a semi related note, has any of you guys ever recognised that a player is a woman w/o her telling she is? and i don't mean them playing female character, more like the way they write, especially in an MMO

I've heard about it - but I've also seen boys adapt rather fast to the supposive way girls write and have other boys think they were a girl~
There are certain signs you can look for, for certain female gamers. However diversity is giga~ But stereotypes are so fun~
