02/24/2012 - Citadel Ship Shot Down Over Garvug
“Official ship for Citadel Committee on Paleotechnology shot down over Garvug. Data files on Prothean inventions could be in criminal hands.”

Shot down by who...or what...?

This is good, we can chalk up the events of Arrival to the Reapers.

Solar output...

It can't be because of the Arrival DLC event (no spolier to be mentioned) from the ME2 DLC.

masseffect.wikia.com/index.php

The homeworld is not in the Bahak system.

Solar output...hmm...I'm thinking about Tali and Kal'Reegar's conversation about the Quarian research project on Heastrom regarding the dying star in that system:

  • Dholen's (the sun) magnetic eruptions and solar output overwhelm most communications near it.
  • Kal'Reegar informs Shepard and Tali that quarian scientists are worried about dark energy destabilizing Dholen and causing it to mature into a red giant too rapidly by reducing the mass of its interior. Though there is a consensus that the geth were not responsible for the anomaly, it is left unclear as to whether this phenomenon is natural or artificial.

Batarians are the catalyst for the entire universe's hate. I mean really, they're not exactly "nice", but as far as expansionism and xenophobia goes they're actually very close to the Systems Alliance and humans in general (we hear about batarian slavers all the time... how many pirates, mercs and so forth unsavory types we kill are humans?).

Getting all the media flak AND being the first species to be harvested... unlucky, unlucky SoBs.

Also, I wonder why do people seem to believe the batarians are gone. Anyone remembers Vigil?

"The genocide of a species is a long, slow process." The extermination of Protheans took centuries, and that's with Reapers being in control of the Citadel. Batarian military may be broken, government in disarray and people dying all the time, but they're not all goners. They won't be for a looooooooong time.

(unless BW forgets its own lore, knock on wood)

Because unlike the Protheans who were all across the galaxy with their colonies/stations/bases and the sole power at that time (whether it was an empire or not), the Batarians are nowhere near as numerous or as spread out since they are confined to the small area the reapers are hitting first. So minus the survivor here and there...they're toast.

EVeryone already knows that Shepard is the one who blew up the Bahak system while working for Cerberus, so no joy there.

Centuries for a galaxy-spanning race... so, for simply a "colonial" one like batarians, how much? Decades? Years?

They won't be slaughtered in a week even on a single world, else a similar fate would befall Earth who's attacked as second, and there would be no ME3 "main plot". If there can be suriviors on Earth (which is the premise with which Shepard leaves in the demo, although the fleet that attacks the Earth is already bolstered by batarian husks, which means - stronger), there can be on the batarian homeworld... unless only Earth is allowed to have plot armor, but then that would be simply silly.

"Contact lost" doesn't mean it was destroyed after all, Earth was blacked out as well before the attack proper. Heck, even the Collectors could silence a world with their one measly ship before.

This is the best they can come up with? The Batarians are being wiped out and they're hiding the fact? Wouldn't they want to request aid?

Hope we get a chance to help them, batarians get an unfairly bad press considering it is their leaders who are the cause of the slave-taking and colony attacks.

"Susskind Supercollider experiments on Calabi-Yau manifolds; results "promising," say physicists" well, i think we know what the structure in the menu. And for those that are too lazy to look it up its a absolutely huge particle collider. As in 13,508 kilometers in circumference. Reaper destroyer much ?

Ah yes "Commander Shepard" the human who killed 300k innocent batarians. We have dismissed that claim.

I think Reapers are blocking all communications and this statement is from official representative on the Citadel.

That's about as logical as saying that humans are all dead, because they get attacked in ME3 demo. There's a communication blackout too, the fleet gets destroyed. That's it. No more human race, better luck next time.

Now... I don't work or write for Bioware, but just from clues from previous games, the Reapers are looking to gain something out of this deal in the long run. They aren't killing just for the killing, they bided their time and now it's time to reap the rewards.

They aren't going to hang out in orbit and lob nukes until everyone on the planet is dead. There was never a report of Reapers doing the scorched earth tactics, indeed, on many planets with "Prothean ruins" a lot of the infrastructure seems to be intact. And if they aren't going simply for the maximum damage option, then all the killing, abducting, stripping the planet of its resources and tech, harvesting everything of use will take time and has to be methodical. Reapers, on the other hand, need to press forward because they lost the surprise advantage of the Citadel. Most likely they showed up, smashed some ships and comm buoys, dropped husks, picked up some future husks and took off, to get the rest of the galaxy's powers before they mount up a counter-attack.

They are trillions of individuals that need to be rounded up, and that'll fall to the indoctrinated or husks. The Reapers, with their enormous bulk and firepower, are the hammer that breaks a nation's back, but picking up the pieces has to fall to their agents. If they were simply out to murder everything and nothing else, sure, that would be fairly quick. But harvesting will take time, heaps and heaps of time - even if the homeworld cannot fight back anymore, it's far from dead.

All the evidence seems to point that while batarians as a military power may be in dire straits (so are humans), but nothing indicates that them as a species will be gone for a long time.

For their continued practice of slavery and torture of other species, I call this Reaper invasion, "cosmic karma." :P

Ahh yes, perhaps that's what should have happened to our race up until around 200 years ago, let cosmic karma be served.

Even though it might be hard for you Americans to understand, but the USA doesn't represent the whole of humanity. For example, the people you want to bomb next (the Iranians) never practiced slavery and outlawed it outright over 2500 years ago.
