It's funny, because judging from race "profiles" and the hate for the species (unless the Council was saved, and it's not the "canon" choice either), humans are pretty much "the Galaxy's other batarians".NovemEnuma wrote...

Earth was just dealt a better hand by the Council once, and from there the SA rose while the Hegemony's stocks dropped like a rock. Character-wise? Humans and batarians are like twins, only one is wearing glasses. And all the RP in this thread pretty much proves it more than anything.

Because unlike the Protheans who were all across the galaxy with their colonies/stations/bases and the sole power at that time (whether it was an empire or not), the Batarians are nowhere near as numerous or as spread out since they are confined to the small area the reapers are hitting first. So minus the survivor here and there...they're toast.
They won't be slaughtered in a week even on a single world, else a similar fate would befall Earth who's attacked as second, and there would be no ME3 "main plot". If there can be suriviors on Earth (which is the premise with which Shepard leaves in the demo, although the fleet that attacks the Earth is already bolstered by batarian husks, which means - stronger), there can be on the batarian homeworld... unless only Earth is allowed to have plot armor, but then that would be simply silly.
"Contact lost" doesn't mean it was destroyed after all, Earth was blacked out as well before the attack proper. Heck, even the Collectors could silence a world with their one measly ship before.
It doesn't mean utterly destroyed, but it does mean its being Reaped along with every other Batarian colony and world nearby there as well. I can't see it taking decades, a few years, maybe five for Kar'Shan and another seven - ten for any nearby colonies more likely though ten on the far outside. As for Earth, we're talking plot armor here.

It would be interesting to go to the Reaper infested batarian homeworld... Perhaps you have to rescue somebody important or something.

I'm kind of hoping for precisely this to happen. Would be awesome, and we could visit the fabulous auction house.Thargorichiban wrote...

There is simply no evidence for the process going any faster than decades. If Reapers wanted to kill fast, they'd just nuke the worlds from orbit, but they still have all the Reaping to do. They don't come all the way to simply kill everything and go ASAP - that would be just wasting resources and energy. The previous worlds (from the Prothean genocide) were left in nigh-pristine condition, so that later peoples were wondering just whatever happened to Protheans at all.Slayer299 wrote...

That means that whatever it is they're doing, they're working with precision, and precision takes time. And they can afford that, after all - after the backbreaking hit to the government centers/fleets/comm buoys, they have all the time in the world. "Kar'Shan is dead, it'll take X years max" is just pure speculation, since we don't even know precisely what the Reapers are even doing, only know the end result (extinction while preserving material and the worlds themselves) and how much time it took the last time around for the whole galaxy (centuries - and that was in favorable conditions, with the trap working).
No need for plot armor, Reapers will take their time and tip-tentacle around after the initial smashing of fleets, simply because it's what they've always been doing, and they have no reason to change what was working. It's not a giant meat grinder, and it's not a race. They don't rush through the galaxy on a murder spree, but set up "homes" in inhabited systems and go about their business. I don't see Kar'Shan or Earth being any different.

Ah yes "Commander Shepard" the human who killed 300k innocent batarians. We have dismissed that claim.
There's no such thing as an innocent batarian.
