 G'day. I want to know about the trigger point for the Horizon mission. I'd planned on getting the main guys together plus Zaeed and Kasumi since you can recruit them practically as you walk past on your way to something else, but I also wanted to do Kasumi's loyalty mission before I did Horizon because I've read that there's a decent SMG to be picked up there for those team members that rely mainly on their SMG. In order, I got Zaeed, Mordin, Garrus, Kasumi, Jack and Grunt, and now it seems I have no choice but to speak to the Illusive Man and get sent to Horizon.

So my question is if it's possible to recruit the first five of those, then go off and do Kasumi's loyalty, and then get Grunt. Does the Horizon mission trigger from number of missions and/or assignments played or is it from number of team members recruited? I'd quite like to do Horizon with Grunt and Miranda, but I wanted that improved SMG for Miranda first.

Yep this.  On my hardcore play through I was able to delay the mission by saving recruiting grunt till I did everything else.

The collector ship however I don't think you can delay.

So if I understood well, we can:
-get Zaeed and make his loyalty mission jsut after
-same for Kasumi
-recruit all four main squadmates

then go to Horizon?

The others put it pretty clear. Horizon is triggered once you recruit Mordin, Garrus, Jack, and Grunt. Until the fourth of those is recruited, you can do whatever you want.
