This isn't a suggestion for how to play any class to its highest potential, but just foolproof way for how to make any class work and work well. Also it will be a good learning exercise for how to play well in this game no matter what class you play.
Step 1: Equip an avenger.
Step 2: Spec full weapon damage in the 'Alliance Training' or whatever it happens to be named for your race.
If the class has singularity, throw, pull, concussive shot, carnage, overload, incinerate, or cryo blast, then this will work just fine for you.
Spec one of these abilities so that it will incapacitate an enemy in some way. Some of them do this better than others, but any will suffice.
Now then, this guide now gets very technical.
Dislodge your enemy from cover and shoot them. Shoot them in the face. Shoot them in the face until they are dead.

This may seem like advice from a smartass, but I'm being perfectly honest. Let me explain.
When first I made a human soldier I didn't know what to do. I was used to charge-nova'ing stuff or stasis-headshotting stuff. I honestly had no idea what I was doing with the soldier, so I maxxed out everything except for fitness. I then learned that 2 of my abilities, grenade and adrenaline rush, I hardly ever used.
Also I noticed that by relying on my bullets and my concussive shot, I started killing faster, more strategically, and more efficiently. I also started supporting my team better. Not only that, I started getting the highest score, nearly every game I played.
After taking the soldier to 20 and being a boss with it in general, I took the knowledge of the way of the gun over to the sentinel. Again, using the same tactics I learned as a soldier, I am having no problem with the sentinel and and scoring first place and being the MVP in general.
I noticed I only really relied on my gun and throw with the sentinel as well. I took this knowledge over to the engineer, a class I had been having problems with, and yet again started owning with the engineer.
Same basic strategy. Dislodge your enemy from cover, shoot until dead. Shoot from cover. Be aware of your surroundings. Support your allies.
There is literally no class that cannot own. Everyone has the tools.
I'm talking to you, Drellguards. You have pull, you have a gun. Make it happen.

It can help a lot but if you have an high ping internet connection you can play good but is hard to get the highest score of the squad, because they just kill it before you (that if other squad players are so good as you).
