Asari Vanguard spottet

I'm pretty sure I played with an Asari Vanguard yesterday which, as far as I know, should not be legally possible in the demo.
I'm pondering if I should report that guy for cheating in the MP demo(if he was, in fact, cheating) or not.
Or did I miss something and unlocking 4th column is indeed possible on rare occasions?

One question for you:
Did it made the match worse for you?
There is a GODDAMN difference between unlocking locked content and cheating! If you don't know that, go report almost everyone that ever modded a game, because 98% of all mods ever existed are using gamefiles that are modified and not originally intended to be used that way. Go on, report all these.
Better yet, continue using vocabulary that implies people that do as such are criminals. Go ahead, I stand here, right here:
I HAVE MODDED MY DRAGON AGE GAMES WITH FILES THAT WERE NOT ORIGINALLY INTENDED TO BE MODIFIED!!!
CUFF ME, JAIL ME! I AM SOO SORRY I NEVER IMPEDED YOUR GAME AND ONLY MODIFIED MY OWN WITHOUT IT EVER AFFECTING OTHER PEOPLE OTHER THAN THEM SEEING HOW I ILLEGALLY MODDED MY GAME!!!
You know people what I hate more than cheaters on MP? People that can't tell a cheater from a modder ... ON A DEMO!!! IN CO-OP!!!
Unless these people start using hax like unlimited money, infinite damage, enable friendly fire to go gut your characters, or aimbots with whom to play ruines your experience, GET FREAKIN' REAL!!! There is no harm done if that guy/gal unlocked files in his demo and you didn't. Or are you going to yell cheaters at everyone that bought a CE if you didn't, accusing them of playing unfair?
*grrrrrrrrRRRRRRRRR*
BSN, you finally made, you really cracked me.

Sorry, BSN, I didn't mean you ... I MEAN THAT EFFIN' TO!!!!!!

And damn right I'd report anyone who has been modding the multiplayer part of a game that has any influence on gameplay for me.
Now the question is: How far is it from modding game files to unlock locked characters and modding game files to have better loot, quadruple the XP, credits earned and so on...?
P.S.: Your reaction tells me that you're pretty much a cheater yourself and just want to justify your behavior this way. Maybe I should report you too?

Well I guess we know whos been cheating in this thread.
And yea, I consider most 'modding' to be cheating, especially on a multiplayer, 4th column races are locked on demo, if you are unlocking unavailable content via nefarious means then that would consitute cheating.
And who are you kidding really, people that mod are too lazy/stupid to do things properly so they find a themselves a quick way to bypass content and get what they want without actually playing the game, I'd be willing to bet 95% of people modding **** on the demo are using unlimited ammo and health.
And OP, reporting them on the demo probably won't do anything, the best thing you can do is leave the matches when you notice this **** going on and hope they fix/ban this sort of thing in the full game.

Also, he's not a "cheater", he is a modder, there's a difference: One is very welcome in the elder scrolls series and has many, many sites out there where they can download what other people have done, whereas the other isn't very welcome in the elder scrolls series and keeps having their methods patched. I'm joking of course, there are more differences than that.

Honestly, it doesn't affect you or spoil your gaming pleasure, therefore it is none of your concern. IF someone has modded the files in their demo to play as a character, then that's their business and Biowares (if BW wants to be angry and punish them, they can).

Modding is completely different when it comes to MP games. If it's SP fine, do whatever you want. However accessing locked content is cheating. If it were the full game and someone just unlocked every class and level X of every weapon, they would have an extreme advantage over people playing legitly, and just because it's CO OP doesn't make it ok.

I've nothing against moding. Honestly, I hope there will be a way to mod the horrible FOV(for PC players) and the key bindings in the full game and I'd consider this non-harmful modding.
Playing characters a player's not supposed to play, however, is borderline already. Not saying it is full-on cheating but not too far from it either.

Now the question is: How far is it from modding game files to unlock locked characters and modding game files to have better loot, quadruple the XP, credits earned and so on...?
First off:
YOU obviously have to learn the difference between the official and in court terms of "legal", "as intended" and "tolerated". Modding files can be "as intended" when developers release tools, "tolerated" when not "as intended" or "not tolerated" and shut down. They are, as long as you don't use the files, original or modified, commercially, not "illegal".
Cheating as in obtaining "not intended" effects by modifying gamefiles, may be "tolerated" in singleplayer games AND multiplayer games as long as others' experiences are not impeded in said process or by their making.
Cheating in the same vain might "not be tolerated", regardless of impact on other players, as per developer/publisher on their own terms, and enforced with suspension or bans from linked content. It is, however, still not "illegal", as long as said effects and way of process/procurement is not used commercially.
Cracking a game as in modifying files "not as intended" in order to bypass routines that ensure only "legally" procured items can be used as a means to publish said content is "not tolerated" and "illegal" as it does impede with the commercial intent of the developers/publisher.
I will not let you sweet talk, or "buddy" me when you don't even know the implications of what you're saying.
That said, it is not possible to "crack" these files you speak of in the sense of its term as there is no commercial intent behind a demo. They don't sell it. It is free. Modifying the files can therefor not be "illegal" as long as they don't try to make money of it.
Did the offender charge money? Did he wanted to sell you the files he modified? No? Then do not talk in terms of "legal" and imply he was by law a criminal for commiting an act you simply do "not tolerate".
As for modding multiplayer files:
As far as I understand it, all the offender did was to unlock a class (and posibly other stuff aswell) that you couldn't, or better said, didn't, as you easily could yourself too. The files ARE out there. Anyone that wants to find them can find them.
The point is, he made his experience better (assuming here), not yours worse. So how is it any of your business to judge him with terms as "legal"? Are you sad he had stuff to play with you didn't? Can you never ever play a match without being remembered of the psychological distress this event put you under and will your children grow up with a traumatized father/mother and sue him/her for that too (keeping in analogy to your vocabulary here, you see)?
Now the obviously ridiculous part has been established and beaten to death or so I presume, we can go to the real thing. The sense of fairness you may have had in mind when you initially tried to open this topic, but then forsake (be it intentionally or not) for other terms on how to describe said individual and its impact.
Is it fair he/she modded his files to access content you didn't? Well, that does generally depends on your take on entitlement, but I can empathize and say:
"Hey, that guy got stuff I don't. How the hell did he do this? I wanna have too!!!"
That is all clear. That is all understandable. But what a wicked sense of entitlement do you got to have when above thinking turns into:
"You damned hacker, you got content you weren't supposed to have that I don't have. That is totally not legal man. I demand reprimation!"
Do you see where I am coming from?
-----------
Second:
If you are going to talk in hypotheticals, then how about we talk about how chances are you are going to kill innocent people? You did stomp on ants. I know that. Everyone stomped on ants some time or the other. That does also mean, that all those people that ever killed innocents, murdered them, butchered them in cold blood, started just like you.
How big a step is it from stomping on ants to murdering innocent people?
Too abstract? I concur. How about this:
Let's presume you are at school. You like it there, or you may not. Doesn't matter, you have too. Over the time, you got quite proficient in writing essays, being creative and having a way with words (don't stress your imagination too far on that one ... "buddy"). Now, how big a step would it be to become an commercial author. Writing bestsellers, being named among the likes of Samuel Longhorn Clemens, Homer, Frederick Forsyth, John Grisham, J.R.R. Tolkien and such. Seems like a logical step to me, doesn't it?
But wait, ... how come we got so few authors. There's something ot adding up, right?
But then again, some people obviously are authors, some even good ones, ... others you want to shoot for being so horrible. Hmm, strange. It seems just so ... random. Out of control, does it?
Just because some people can modify files, doesn't mean they will. Just because they have modified files, doesn't mean they are hackers/cheaters in the traditional sense as agreed upon in the gaming subculture.
And yes, no matter what you do, no matter how many decent people there are out there, there will be some people that will crack the game you will most hopefully pay for. There will be people that will hack the servers just for the lulz to more or less success and yes, there will be people that are going to mess up matches by modifying the game as host, there will be people that will mod themselves into invincible, never-run-out-ammo, imba-power-spammers with infinite money that will have everything there is in the game plus a couple more.
You can not stop it. I can not stop. BioWare can not stop. No one can stop it.
It lies however completely in your power to stop generalizing as you just did and bring a bit civility and hopefully "common" sense in this virtual world we are playing in by not being an indiscriminate ******. Hypothetically.
I am done with this.

Sorry for double post, internet was laggy.
As for the people saying I am a cheater, basing their judgement on my reaction. Good job, you just brought jumping to conclusions to its epitome. Now, thanks to this topic, I am totally not in the mood for such superstitions. I may deal with stupidity, but I will not deal with people saying I am a cheater (because you know, I think I made myself clear on how much I revere cheaters, didn't I?) and making threats on reporting me (yes you did!).

Quoted for evidence.
I will notify Priestly and others of this topic and ask them sort things out. And just in case you want to accuse me of anything else based on this very notion, I will specifically ask them them to clear out everything that is inappropriate. I fully expect, my ragepost to get chopped. As do I expect this sense idiocy in here to get chopped as well.

A game having the same fixed FOV for consoles and PC is broken by design as this is not how FOV works. It's bound to exclusively work on one of these platforms but never on both. It's simply a natural restriction.
BTW: Battlefield 3, which is the competetive multiplayer shooter out there at the moment, allows you to freely adjust FOV to your monitor and liking. Can't be that much of an advantageous hack then, can it?

PC gamers will always have an advantage over console players, thems the breaks. Console gamers are enslaved to the proprietary technology of the console, but it is possible to jailbreak most consoles to access the OS and game files for modification (just as PC gamers do, it is just harder.
Further, you get what you pay for. Consoles cost $300ish? A Gaming PC can cost between $1,000 to $28,000. Xbox/PS gamers will never be able to compete with a gamer riding an SR-X with (2) 12-core processors overclocked to 5Ghz and (4) GTX580 in SLI also overclocked and all of which is water cooled.
