I was thinking about something the last couple of days -

I suppose it might have simply something to do with sex appeal - but Kaiden doesn't seem to appear very much in marketing material.

I know he has a large background - as does Ash - but I was wondering if saving Ash could actually be considered canon?

I imagine if they do establish a canon, Ashley would be the virmire survivor.
But I wouldn't say there is a canon now.

Don't know if you would call it canon but whatever Shepard comes out of action mode would be the "right" one.

There is no canon but your average shooter fan would rather be looking at Ash.

Who cares if this is canon, this is the last game of the series anyway...

Because most of the people play maleshep and the Canon choice for maleshep is Ashley.Posted Image

well, females have higher priority, so saving Kaidan.. would rather put strange looks on Shep.

edit: On Titanic 74% of all females were saved. But only 20% of all men.

Incorrect. If you read the books - there is canon for quite a lot of things actually.

More like BioWare's assumption...

Not unreasonable to believe that Sheploo=saved Ash, Femshep=saved Kaidan. There are exceptions, but that's the safe route.

Then again, BioWare has no power of assuming what will be the consequence of Ash running that insinuating mouth of hers towards me. Both in ME3 and when I go to do additional playthroughs with other classes beginning in ME1.

Yes, but when it comes to things that we have a choice on, they rarely step on them.

Yeah Kaidan is in a fair amount of marketing stuff imo.

Might be possible that Ash is considered the canon rescue. Considering she shows up if you use the choice in character creation for multiple deaths instead of just Ash or Kaidan.

Unambiguous canon: Shepard KIA; Miranda brought him/her back to life; Saren died.
Ambiguous canon: Soldier Sheploo; Ashley VS; Thane fighting at Grunt's rite of passage.
Personal canon: Miranda dies in SM; Miranda survives SM; etc.

If they wanted to play it safe, there's no reason they couldn't have just shown Liara instead of Ashley. Liara's not dead for anyone under any circumstances, and it's no secret she ... markets well with the target demographic...

Ambiguous canon doesn't really matter as far as our individual experiences of ME3 are concerned, but were a movie ever to be produced, I'm sure it's a reasonable indication of BW's understanding of the narrative.

I'm pretty sure BioWare has data on how many players saved Ashley and how many saved Kaidan. I could have sworn I just read a post from someone here a few days ago mentioning it. Anyway, I do recall that while a good chunk of people did tend to favor Kaidan, the majority saved Ashley instead.

Gah. I wish I could remember which thread that was. It wasn't one I posted in, so I don't have it tagged.

Default VS is always opposite gender. Sheploo is male.

Ad marketing will rarely use a bloke (especially an equally muscular, marine, whitish looking guy) when they can use a hot chick instead.

If it were canon, Kaidan wouldn't be an option in ME3. Just because one choice is the majority, doesn't make it canon. Marketing uses MaleShep and Ashley as their go to. In the actual game, I play as Femshep and I saved Kaidan. Shepard's story has no canon.

Because in 99% of all the advertising and marketing for the Mass Effect series features Sheploo.

And chances are, if your playing a male Sherpard, then your probably gonna save Ashley.

Sorry Ash. I had to make a choice. I chose Kaidan.
