The movie should never have been based on the games. First Contact War would have been great or even the Skyllian Blitz to the assault on Torfan.Random citizen wrote...

The movie will reveal all the canon stuff.
In a way, yes.
And that is way it is a bad idea to say the least.
If the movie is bad, things gets even worse.

There is no canon but your average shooter fan would rather be looking at Ash.
No, they just feel comfortable saying they' ratehr be looking at Ash.
Secretly, they long for Kaiden.

So happy I never had to listen to his whining past ME1.

The Sidon base is attacked, Anderson investigates and eventually runs into Saren and Kahlee Sanders, Saren kills Skarr, more Revelation plot points, Shepard fines the Prothean beacon on Eden Prime, Tali hands Shepard evidence to prove Saren's a traitor, Shepard goes to Therum, Noveria, Feros, Virmire, and Ilos on his quest to stop Saren, more Mass Effect plot points, The Illusive Man gives Gillian to Paul Grayson, she admitted into the Ascension program, more Ascension plot points. The Normandy SR1 is attacked, more Mass Effect 2 plot points, etc.p.W wrote...

My stance on the matter isn't just based off of what he said however. He can say the complete opposite at this time and I still wouldn't think there is a defined canon. As far as these three games goes there isn't any because the games were designed that way.Darkov wrote...

Casey Hudson himself has explained that beyond the plot points that must happen, there is no canon. Take that for what you will.
He's just appeasing you, there will be a set path that is the writer's preferred options and therefore influences future writing and design decisions. This preferred list of options is as good as canon, even if they don't call it that.
Let me ask you again: what if the question isn't "what is the canon for ME1-3?" but "what is the canon for the ME universe?"

Shepard being dead was almost canon during the early news about Mass Effect 3. BioWare said something about having a special import for players who utterly screwed up the Suicide Mission. Unfortunately that idea was trashed.p.W wrote...

It's a shame you stopped there, because you were just getting to the good part. At the end of ME2, Shepard can die. So does that mean nothing about ME3 is canon, considering for plenty of people Shepard is already dead and the story's over?

Considering Shepard being alive is canon I don't know why you're asking a question with an obvious answer.p.W wrote...
ME3 doesn't happen at all if your Shepard died in the SM. Does that mean the ME universe stops having canon completely past the SM?

yes and no. Your shep can always be considered canon for you fo course. Kind of what they did wit Revan, you could choose the gender, appearance etc but bioware chose a canon, same with the exile being female.yoshibb wrote...

If it were canon, Kaidan wouldn't be an option in ME3. Just because one choice is the majority, doesn't make it canon. Marketing uses MaleShep and Ashley as their go to. In the actual game, I play as Femshep and I saved Kaidan. Shepard's story has no canon.
actually it will, they are making a film and last i heard it will be a maleshep .
That's a movie adaptation, it's not a part of the game. The Mass Effect series is based on choices and shaping your Shepard, at least that's what it is to me. You can write books, movies, comics about Mass Effect, but they are simply another version of Shepard's story. Shepard's story is whatever you create in Mass Effect 1-3. There are things that stay the same like Saren and the Reapers being the enemy, Shepard dying, Shepard working for Cerberus, but there's no specific version of Shepard.
Shepard is a Female Paragon Vanguard
Shepard is a Male Renegade Soldier
Shepard is whatever you choose him or her to be. Until they decide to remove all traces of choice from the game, there is no canon to me.

So Malesheploo and Ashley VS could be canon for the ME universe, as I've been saying all along. We agree.

I was thinking about something the last couple of days -
I suppose it might have simply something to do with sex appeal - but Kaiden doesn't seem to appear very much in marketing material.
I know he has a large background - as does Ash - but I was wondering if saving Ash could actually be considered canon?

There is no canon until it is more convenient for them to make something canon, e.g. Revan.
Try to pick an example that actually has something to do with Bioware imposing stuff. Lucasfilm is the one who decided canon Revan was male, lightside, etc.
Straight male don't chose bi4y girls, they are for nerds, considering having liara and ashleyGame designed for a majority of Straight Males who play males.
Male Shepard standard ME2 VS = Ashley.
They're just trying to optimize their marketing, doesn't mean it's canon.
