I did some searches and didn't find this bug reported anywhere. When you have a lot of certain materials (an amount that is not uniform for each material, it seems), your yield will be 1-3 units per spike (as opposed to hundreds or thousands). I was preparing my save file for importing by visiting every planet, then ran in to this bug. Here's my video description and URL:

This bug will cause you to only get 1-3 minerals per spike. I guess it happens... when you have lots of materials? Loading a slightly earlier save didn't help. It doesn't do this for all materials, just two of them. Surprisingly, it doesn't do it for the material I have the second-most of. I try to drain my Platinum by buying the plastic surgery thing, but that didn't fix it either. I guess my game is permanently bugged.

I'm sure you are wondering why I have a million and a half of three mineral types. That's a good question. ... ... ... Oh, you want an answer? Meh. It's because I want to visit every planet, but not lose track of what I have mined and haven't. So every planet I visit I mine out. So to visit every planet, I feel I have to mine them all out. :-P Why is it important if I lose track? Because traveling between planets will slowly whittle away at your money. This is what happens when fuel and money are limited resources.

"But money isn't a limited resource, and you can win it in the Veran pit?" Not for me. In my game, I am completely unable to win at the Veran pit.

If it effects new runs worry, if it doesn't then don't, because 1.4mil units is around 1.1 mil more than you will ever use.

As to the money in fuel issue, as posted on your video page, you will spend more on probes than you would have on fuel, but if you are having fun, have at it.
