Quitting, there needs to be some deterrent

I'll put this one bluntly: If this is happening to you often enough to become a concern, you should suck less.

The design of the game already does plenty to deter straight up leaving. If you want to sabotage a bad team that has a near zero chance of overall victory, suicide at the beginning of wave 7 and watch them flail about.

Your proposal does nothing to solve that problem.

Oh so besides the fact that when my game crashes I lose all the credits I gained, which can be a lot, as well as the XP you want to put a penalty on that? Seriously OP?!

So, I eventually find a game, right, and it's Bronze on Firebase Ghost. Easy? Apparently not. My two teammates both went down in round 1. Fine, whatever. I was trying out a new character and was going to rely on my teammates, but apparently I had to step it up. Eventually I get to round 3 and think it's been a little empty for a while.

Both my teammates quit on me leaving my level 5 ass to do the mission solo. WTF? The game doesn't even tell you that a teammate quit and all you get is a warning saying you'll lose your progress when you do. I think it should charge you 1,000 credits for every game you quit and it increases by 1,000 for every consecutive game you quit. Even if you have no credits it should make you go negative.

It's a multiplayer game. People rely on you, you can't just go quitting willy nilly and leaving everyone hanging.

It's called disconnecting. Have you not noticed how buggy MP is?

Not everyone who disconnects does it on purpose OP. This idea is plain stupid.

Rage-quits are annoying, but people shouldn't be penalized for quitting. They may have other reasons for quitting.

I think non-friend players should be able to join matches.

Sometimes leaving the game does not happen by choice.

If you lag a lot you honestly shouldn't even be playing MP.

You said that both your teammates left without you noticing, that means that you were hosting the match. Both of them left within minutes of each other.

It's very likely that it was your connection that caused the problem.

My only problem is when the host leaves and everybody gets kicked.

You don't get kicked. The server switches to a new host and the current wave restarts.

What happens is that everyone sees the 'host has left' message and hits the 'exit' button instead of waiting the ten seconds it takes for the game to reload on a different machine.

I for once totaly agreed with the maker of this topic.

People who quit a game should be hunt down, shot, than cut into pieced and finaly sent to there relative in little box. While of course illiminating all trace of there existance including but not limited to the removable of there relative.

it's just a DEMO...

and it has Demo problems...
invisible enemies
enemies shooting threw walls/ being in walls
my favorite, infinite falling, only one solution. for that.
oh and the bug that makes it so you can't move... on spawn, fixed by dieing and being brought back at end of wave or revive or if you can reach cover.

no don't penilize

Oh so the mp is only for the special people. Gotcha *rolls eyes*

Actually if you're lagging [and you know it] and keep on joining games and getting dropped you're actually hurting everyone else in the game / wasting their time / etc.   When possible use common courtesy.

I'm pretty sure the system should know the difference between a lag out / crash / disconnect / etc. as opposed to an actual "quit" command processed by the client, seen by the host, etc.

I think the worst is when the leader disconnects, and you are all booted out of the game. I have deployed Armor upgrades, AP rounds, wasted rockets on Atlases and some douche quit on wave 10.

OP, don't take it personal. You don't know the reasons for people leaving. And losing the exp and creds for doing so, it's enough "punishment".
Find another lobby, or find some ppl here on BSN. For the latter though, I think this kind of thread or your previous one probably won't help much.

Your name is familar, did I quit on you? I know if I am playing, if my friend has to leave, I usually leave to. It's not the end of the world to solo a round before you die or search out another lobby. Lordy only knows it's a universal issue, people get bored, and leave. I'll quit if I was trying out a new class -ie:Krogan- and I hate it and want to switch. Or if I am hungry and decide to get food. and when other people quit on me I just leave the game. No permanent emotional damage done.

I would say yes, but at the same time I have had to quit because my character doesn't move and I can't do anything, forcing my hand... and I end up losing the perks I used for that round.

So I understand why there should be a penalty, but also why there shouldn't for instances like my own.

Maybe a more severe penalty if you quit after the first round.

The game can clearly differentiate between someone pressing start and choosing Quit Game as opposed to a disconnection. It's exactly the same as Call of Duty, you can choose Leave Game and will be warned that you will be given a loss for doing this. If you dashboard/disconnect, none of your stats from that game are saved and you receieve no loss because the game recognises the connection error.

Good post, OP. How is missing out on hypothetical XP that you haven't earned yet in any way a punishment? If you leave the game WHILE DOWNED you should be punished because you're clearly not a team player. The thinking behind people leaving while downed is that they're missing out on XP while downed, not knowing that it all gets shared at the end anyway. If you're going to play like a lone wolf and simply leave whenever you don't get your own way, you SHOULD be punished for it.

this topic is ridiculous...people have a life outside the game, if something important comes out, i don't give a **** to the strager I'm playing with...he can hadle imself and try to get as many points as possible while resisting to the waves...

And by the way, if your trying a new character, going alone makes you improve skill much better...
If get a good player in your team on bronze, you can simply forget a good score....

however, if your plan was to do a ****ty work while your team does the job (only to get the experience points), I have to remind you that is a teamwork game and people rely on you as a active player and not as some kind of leach...

What about midgame invites from people you actually know. What about realizing your closer to being late for work then you thought. What about your friend getting booted, maybe you forgot to make the game private and didn't want a third player. You shouldn't be punished for not wanting to play with people. It sucks for the person getting abandoned of kicked, but it happens to everyone. You learn to suck it up and go play in another lobby. hopefully by the time the game come out you have built a team of people you like and play with them. If you haven't thats... strange. I literally knew no one coming into the multiplayer world. Now I have my serious get the gold team, and my just for laughs all play the same class, "Why you stealing all my kills" team. It isn't hard to make friends online.

@Flesh - which one am I? :P

I haven't left any games but don't get too worked up when others do. Just go back into the lobby and find something else. Welcome to MP. Just wish I had more time to play!

Does the game tell you whether someone has left or simply disconnected? 100% of the time I've 'quit' a mission has been because of a client crash or a bug making it impossible for me to continue and I have to restart. It happened four times just yesterday. ~_~

If quitting and saving 1,000 credits is that important to you go ahead.

@sayersybrfc: Finally, someone who undertands that isn't just spouting crap about connection issues. I have crappy 3.0Mbps DSL and I've had exactly 1 dropped connection in the demo after hitting N7 70 and I've quit exactly 0 games.
