Berserk is awesome...although it's probably the biggest downer series I've read in a while.

Gantz just seems like it tries to have as much gratuitous sex and blood as possible.

Yep.  That's pretty much what I've heard of Gantz.  It's good in a 'going to see an action movie flick' type of way otherwise not really.

I recently went back to it (recently as a few days ago) after stopping years back (before the cloning or some sh*t).

Berserk?  Yep.  One of my favorite manga.
Gantz?  Nope.  I heard it's decent-good if you go in with low-alright expectations, or just go through without giving the plot and everything too much thought.

  

So either the imagary makes get the brain bleach or bad writting(to some)gives you nightmare... either it accomplishs.. the objective I  needed it to...
Make you get brain bleach and provide High Octane Nightmare fuel.
