This entire thread:

(oh wait, I mean every thread)

Image IPB

The comic was interesting, but Liara is way too OOC.

Awww. Chibi Liara is cute.

Of course, I'm a big fan of anime and manga, so of course I'd like it. I think that's why I like the Kotobukiya Liara figure even though a lot of people here on BSN don't seem to. I like the anime look they gave to her.

...well, for what it's worth, I do have to agree some anime that's made for kids, such as Pokemon or Sazae-san are that way.

But certainly not all of it. And you don't even have to look at just modern stuff. Look at Studio Ghibli's Nausicaa. That's from 1984 and used hand painted cel animation. It's gorgeous even by today's standards.

People actualy think chibi is an interesting art style? And the entirety of the modern western and japanese animation (industry I assume)  disagree with me? Well what else do they think, seeing as you speak for them all.

- Western Cultures do this a ton as well.
- There's only one S/S option per gender not counting Liara, not that much.
- Liara and Tali can be pretty badass and serious when they're not being romantic.
- The ME team obviously isn't full of jaded cynics who think being edgy and self-interested is the best way to go for a peaceful world.
- I'll give you that one, but Bioware has made a joke about it in ME2.

If you look at it today, the entirety of the modern japanese manga style can be tracked back to one source: astro boy. Which was Inspired by disney traditions, who have been the leading western animation studio from which just about every other animation company has drawn inspiration from.

But the vapid slice of life esque chibi comic the OP linked, was of course, chibi. I would hardly call astro boy chibi, what point are you trying to make exactly?

1) A lot of Japanese don't have Xbox 360s. And when they do, they tend to mostly gravitate towards moe games (The Idolm@ster, etc) or shooters (Cave shooters, Gal Gun, Konami's shooters, etc). The PS3 ME2 just came out last year in June. I have no idea how well it has done.
2) It's a Western game series. There's still a lot of Japanese gamers that simply don't play Western games. Plus, a lot of Japanese game stores don't even stock Western games, or if they do, they don't get the prime real estate on the shelves. Not when series' like Pokemon, Tales, Final Fantasy, Mario, etc can be up front and will guaranteed sell many more copies.

I think, between this and the Bishoujo figurines, BioWare (or is it EA?) is definitely trying to carve out a niche in the Japanese market. It's definitely a noble attempt that most western game companies don't even bother playing around with. In the end, I hope it pays off. Japanese gamers love RPGs and romance sims and Mass Effect certainly has elements of both.

If they were smart, BioWare would re-release ME1 and ME2 to include a "Story Mode" like what is being offered in ME3. That would definitely make more Japanese gamers (as well as casual gamers from any region) reconsider playing through the series.

As for my personal opinion, I think this manga is great. There is a lot of humor and style in what is essentially an advertisement for ME3. These types of "manga ads" are starting to become the new trend in Japanese magazines and I certainly can't fault the mentality. Back in the 90's, I remember this becoming a trend for ads in American comic books. Between this one and a few DragonBall themed ads I've seen, I definitely approve.

To all those who see this and ALL CAPS RAGE over it, just relax. This was made for a Japanese audience and was never meant to be shown to you, so why not just let it go? Is crucifying the OP for finding something interesting to share on the forum really the best option? Why not just hit the "Back" button and move on?

It looks... interesting. Never thought they'd do a primer for the Mass Effect universe in such a way. It looks like for this manga male shep is the default.

Used to be a fan of manga; then I hit my twenties.

But Mordin popping out of that manhole cover out of nowhere made me lol.

So, this is a thread where people are complaining about something that very obviously wasn't serious/was meant as a joke(or parody)?

This forum is the best lol

a pretty decent way to get people in the games, not to mention that even the adults over in japan like this "chibi" artstyle with cute characters, so it's not like they are promoting it so 8 yo can check out SS relations with WREX.

I wonder why there is approximately zero Japanese BSN users.
