For people who romanced Liara, who did you save on Virmire. I ask this because whenever i go to the other threads about the VS people's reasons are always because they romanced Ashley/kaidan. I also can't decide which to import first, my Liaramance with Kaidan alive or ashley alive for ME3.

I'm a big champion of saving Kaiden for several reasons:

1) He's more useful in combat. Maybe I'm not playing Ashley right, but as she's a soldier I just give her guns and let her get on with it. A safe pair of hands, maybe but boring. I actualy USE Kaiden's biotic abilities - especially in my canon run as a Sentinel, where having Kaiden was basically having a back-up Shepard. Very handy.

2) It makes the most sense to have Kaiden set the bomb and Ashley to escort the diversion team (or is this compulsory? Can't remember. Either way...) That done, your top priority is to make sure the bomb actually goes off, so it makes the most sense to go back to the bomb site to make sure the geth don't somehow neutralise or disarm the bomb (I know the geth don't actually DO this in the game, but that's metagaming. RP it and it makes sense. This was my deciding reason to go back instead of on to the tower the first time I played it).

3) He's a less offensive character. Not that I'm a huge fan of Kaiden or anything, he annoys me less than Ashley. Kaiden's just chewed up about his experiences as a biotic, which as a biotic Shep I can empathise with. Ashley meanwhile is hot-headed, aggressive and xenophobic.

I think it makes more sense to go get the Salarians, since the bomb can't be stoped. So Kaidan tends to die

(also, it avoids any inconvenient ninjamancing)

Oooh, I didn't know that - if you go to save the Salarians, Captain Kirrahe survives and is found on the Normandy. Interesting.

I always err on the side of Kirrahe, so I have Ash on most of my accounts.

Kirrahe actually survives even if you go for the bomb, I think. It just doesn't make much sense that way to me.

I don't think he does. I'm pretty sure I've just had Commander Rentola the supplies guy there instead (which you can assume went on board the Normandy at the start of the mission. Maybe not every Salarian there was a combatant).

No, he indeed does survive regardless if you go back to rescue his team. The only determining factor is the little side missions you can do while on route to the Krogan cloning facility. Pass on one of those and Kirrahe dies.

Also I will emphasize your prior analysis between Ashley and Kaidan. The latter is arguably the second best squadmate, taking a backseat only to Liara, if build properly. Lift is one of ME's "Win Button" powers and his other skills are useful in their own rate. Meanwhile, Ashley is a more man's Wrex. She is certainly a capable character and can even surpass him at times due to Adrenaline Rush but overall the damage difference is rare and Wrex offers much greater versatility.

Somewhat ironically, Garrus may be the worst squadmate, if not, then Ash is. This most comes from the others having a Win Button power (Singularity, Lift, AI Hacking) and Wrex's insane defensive characteristics.

Oh right. In that case maybe it would make more sense to go on the the tower. Bugger.

I usually leave Kaidan. That's what I did the first several playthroughs, and I eventually starting thinking of it as just the way Virmire is supposed to happen.

Now? I feel like I'm seeing a ghost everytime I begin a new playthrough of ME1.

Ehh, I split between them, even for games where I romance one of them. For example, my sentinel FemShep romanced Kaidan but tragically had to leave him behind on Virmire hence finding her way into Garrus' arms in 2.

So I've got romanced Liara/saved Ash. romanced Ash/saved Ash, romanced Ash/saved Kaidan, romanced Kaidan/saved Kaidan and romanced Kaidan/saved Ash.

I romanced Liara too in the last playthrough(as male shepard) wich is going to be my 1st choice because of the actions i really wanted to take.
I saved Kaidan, thats because he was more usefull to me, i like Ash too but as a soldier i needed kaidan for his biotic powers and he is a good guy and the second in command.
As for my Female Shep(first one yey :P) i also saved Kaidan but this time i didn't romance anyone just so i can romance in ME2.
But now i need a save with as similar as my Male shepard but this time with Ash saved, i found one in mass effect saves, this will be my third one.
Im on a ME marathon this past weeks XD

Not fond of either Ash or Kaidan. I had a slight preference for Ash over annoying puppydog Kaidan but she's such a **** to Shep in ME2 that I'm now thinking stuff her and seeing if I can replay ME1 in such a way as to get both of them killed. Otherwise with me Ash lives simply because story wise Kaidan seems to be the one you'd choose to take care of the bomb because he's the techy type, and conversely Ashley with her fighting skills seems like the one most suited to go with the Salarians. Doing it the other way round feels like I'm just doing it for the sake of it, not because having the groundpounding non-com sit out the gunfight to arm a nuke makes any sense. So at the point I have to decide and Kaidan's assured me that the bomb is armed and will go off the choice is between saving one guy and saving a whole bunch of people, and that should be a no-brainer. Yes, I know the Salarians will survive either way but Shepard wouldn't know that. Sorry Kaidan, better luck next life.

people with migraines are mean... naa. i just liked ash more then kaidan, he's slightly annoying. if you think about it, he's as useful as me2's chef. i wanted a non-murder happy ren-femshep with ash alive and udina on council. lost my 360. but none exist. nice to note, my femshep killed kaidan to keep him from ash's sister.
