Vasquez for Shepard!

actor, not a soldier

Clearify

while actors usually focus their training regimen to attain a certain shape, soldier training is actually often detrimental to the muscles.

So soldier training does not focus on building visable muscles? ok. No surprises there.
Femshep= sci-fi marine character. (not a real soldier).
Vasquez = Sci-fi marine character (not a real soldier)

8 pages of a thread complaining about FemShep being too skinny to be a "soldier".

Not a single picture of Femshep linked or displayed to prove a point or serve as reference.

It's very cleverly edited, much more so that the ME2 scenes. It may even be CG in places rather than using the engine.

Bingo, same goes for DA:O.

We're not comparing like for like.

How is that a valid comparison? One is a cast actor the other is a virtual model that they can shape in any way they wish`.

The way I see it, Shepard does an inordinate amount of cardio, even for a grunt. Plus who knows how Biotics or Tech abilities affect the human body, or effect women aside from men that use them. Not to mention that the girl in the op, Gina, was showing a little ribcage off myself, lest my eyes and biology decieve me.

In other words, it's a game, who cares? If it offends you so, don't play it. Put your money where your mouth is. Power of protest and all that.

Bob maybe then again maybe not. Either way it still reeks of laziness instead of actually putting the time and effort into actually making ME2 better with romance scenes.

If you look at this, now I only noticed because youtube actually lagged at the moment of the hug. Their arms are not really around each other at all, more like several inches away. The DA:O scene is edited in such a way as to not draw attention to these elements of potential clipping.

(girl/girl "adult" warning)

Ziggeh I see your point. However you missed mine. My original point is that the clipping issues and all the other issues with ME2 love scenes were because they threw FemShep onto Sheploo's rigging/skeletal structure.

I get that you have an example of complexity but it is still lazy to put FemShep onto a male rigging/skeletal structure no matter the complexity. FemShep is a woman, NOT a man. Having her walk, move, and make hand gestures like a man is not female, it is not unique. That is the point I am trying to get across and why it reeks of laziness.

I am not blaming anyone else for my disorder, I am responsibel for it. However, it is ableist to tell people that because they have a mental health issue with something they should just avoid it. I never said they had to change it or anything, it would be great if they did but it is too late. But i DO NOT think that i should just ingore it and be quiet about it. This is a major issue in society and if everyone was just quiet about these issues, things would never change. I have a voice, and I am going to use it.

That is the same as telling a minority that they should jsut avoid racism video games or a homosexual they should avoid homophobic video games. It is ableism.

No one is discriminating against you. You also have every right to voice your opinion on the matter. Who said you didn't? You have every right to send petitions, emails or any other device you wish to use to show your displeasure. However, what you cannot do is force media to change or omit women who are too thin, have too skinny of arms, legs and torso. To do so is telling women who are those things that they have the wrong body type. There has to be an equal medium where all body types are appreciated and celebrated. Granted, I find her too skinny for my taste, but there are women out there who have arms that are ultra skinny. I am more concerned as to why her thighs are out of proportion to the rest of her body, but oh well. When I said you should ignore it, I didn't mean you don't have the right to voice your opinion. I meant that if it is a health issue for you, for your own safety, you should avoid it. Stop being hyper-sensitive.

I'm sorry. I don't agree with this at all. Having skinny people in video games isn't discriminatory against people with eating disorders. Again, if this game is triggering and detrimental to your health, then for those reasons you should avoid it.

Bob yeah I see that, but there are points in that clip where the hand is on leliana's thigh and hands on shoulders where clipping could happen but didn't. They did a good job with keeping the arms from one avatar apart from those of leliana. not to say it's a bad thing but it worked very well.

Shame they were all in winter gear, couldn't really see much of their arm width. The snow suit ofcourse adds a bit to there.

And they were infantry in here. =]

Basicaly yeah, women can do what us guys do too, but there isn't just enough width in the FemShep's arms, still.

Nice video still. :)

Not sure I'd agree with that. In ME2 you have more variation in the scenes, there is always going to be a trade off. For example, at one point Jacks fingers just disapear into Shepards shoulder. If you were able to alter the shoulder width , this would be a major issue and very noticeable.

It's kind of like playing that game where your trying to get as close to each other as you can without actually touching. If you altered the body shape of the players while at the same time keeping the same distance , it would not work.

Sorry, but that female animation has arms that are plainly too skinny for her to shake that man. I am shocked and angered! I demand you re-draw that animation and give her sturdier arms. DO IT!

Mmmmm, I'm not sure I agree with that.

I think this conversation right here is massively out of perspective because she's an overtly violent badass who'll happily chin an alien twice her size, it's not like she's mincing about in a miniskirt needing a good hard rescuing every other act. We're talking about what she looks like when you strip off the full body armour for reasons I'm not going to spend much time considering.

(As an aside I find it bizarre that objectification is fine if we post a more realistic image than one in a computer game and all sit around going "mmmm, yeah baby, she could be my positive role model any day")

But if something you find offensive finds it's way into popular media I think it's healthy to have it discussed, even if it, like this is a bit forced, it highlights potential issues so they might be avoided in the future. Otherwise you risk things becoming accepted through apathy.
