Sorry, that's simply not true.  While some people do have more subcutaneous fat naturally than others with proper diet and a good mix of cardio and weight training anyone can get quite ripped.  Now that doesn't mean huge mass but I don't think anyone is asking for that anyway.  Just a more proportional athletic build.

Sorry, but I disagree. There are always people that do not fit the standard model. People that don't look as strong as they are or people whose muscles don't show very well in their skin. Just like there are people who can eat whatever they want, whenever they want, and don't gain a single pound(on the inside, they might look like ****, but outside, fit as ever).

Judging people's strength or athletic ability by the outside is an exercise in futility. IMO.

Here's a couple more from 3.

Thanks I was trying to get bare arms since that seems to be the bone of contention here (on pun intended).

Of course. But we are talking about carrying equipment of several pounds on a daily basis for years. Have you seen anyone who carried equipment of several pounds on a daily basis? It gives a certain figure.
Also if someone like that suddenly stops carrying that several pounds of equipment for a half year, it also changes their figure.
It's not about woman or man, it's about human physiology.
Yet again, it's really not a big deal. And I'm glad we don't have the female version of the Goverminator as a FemShep. But I also understand where is this complaint coming from.
Even if it's taken too seriously. Way too seriously.

One thing to consider is the fact models typically dehydrate themselves to show off their rippling muscles for photo shoots and such. Even those ripped guys on Health & Fitness magazine covers don't look like that between shoots.

Oh, ok.
The only thing that I really don't like about it is that her albows look wierd and her arms look unproportioned to the rest of her body(or is it her legs?)
She doesn't look that skinny to me, her stomach looks more toned than anorexic, can't really tell from the angle.
Also, why do MShep and femShep have underwear as an outfit they can wear?

Wait.  That's not what you said.  You said there are people who can't look that way and that's not true.  With effort anyone can do it.  And you're never going to see a fat runner, or a chubby cornerback, or a chubby gymnast, or any other sport that requires a mix of strength and heavy cardio.

People are a diverse collection of different genetics and body types. check out this pictorial (warning: athletes in underwear) featuring the body types of many different athletes. You will see that even among those in the same field of athletics, there is a variety of body shapes and sizes.

Sure, every person has their own stereotypes of what a soldier "should" look like, based on historical depictions of soldiers in media, their own experiences, and what have you. But as the linked pictorial shows, people do come in all shapes and sizes, and perhaps we as a media culture should start accepting that different body shapes can still represent strength.

You know, Babycakes, I provided THE VERY SAME LINK as a complaint AGAINST FemShep's body.  The PROBLEM with FemShep is that she DOESN'T look like an actual athletic woman, but a STEREOTYPE of what is "hot."

Distorted and unrealistic anatomy aside (god damned noodle arms!), how come FemShep gets a lame reskin of Diana's tacky dress while BroShep gets an awesome jacket?  How come FemShep's panties a buttcrack window?

SERIOUSLY.

WHO THE HELL..?

BUTTCRACK WINDOW?!

MORE THAN ONE PERSON HAD TO AGREE WITH THAT DECISION FOR IT TO BE IN THE GAME.

YOU CAN ONLY APOLOGIZE SO FAR.

Look, I'm GLAD FemShep is getting some representation (it's about time), but seriously, let's not treat her like another piece of T&A, okay?  As one of the few strong avatars remaining for women in the gaming industry, she sould be immune to pinup-itis.

That stupid anime statue isn't helping, either.

No one is asking her to look like an Amazon, but if the character is going to be an action hero that does the impossible twelve times before breakfast she should look more like this...

Than just a normal person. There's more than enough diversity among these athletes for them to have chosen from. Why make John look like Ryan Reynolds and Jane like Lara Flynn Boyle up top and Beyonce from the waist down?

Unless FemShep is 6'4" she doesn't weigh 140 pounds going off that picture in her undies. She looks more like 110-115 since she has no muscle mass to speak of.
And again, there are women built like that in the military. But those women don't do physical duties and certainly could never do what FemShep does.

Absolutely.  I was posting those shots to both address how NG makes realistic women that aren't objectified and have proportions that are far more realistic than, well, just about any other game.

Agreed, they have also done the same with their male characters. I still love how Nathan is a goofball who got into a dangerous line of work and a very dark past, but his attitude is exactly what his personality and his appearance have been all along, a nice enough guy who tries to make the best of a bad situation.

ummmmm . . . yes, they do . . . i see it all the time . . . "dainty" sailors and soldiers carrying 90+ lbs of gear in 130 degree heat

i suggest you go down to your local recruiting office and enlist before arguing with ppl who are way, way, WAY more knowledgeable about the military than you are

They also didn't make Drake look like he bench 400lbs like BW did with Sheploo in this game.  If you're going that route with him they could have certainly given FemShep a more athletic build.

Lets just call it like it is. If Sheploo had those noodle arms and a lack of muscle definition like the new Jane model then BSN would be a sh!tstorm. I just want Jane to be respected like Sheploo.

You're missing the point, honey.

It's not that skinny or hot is bad.  The problem is that 99% of the women we see in videogames (and pretty much all entertainment) are skinny and hot, while the actual percentage of women who look like that is much, much lower.  Furthermore, the range of actual hotness is much broader, but we keep getting cookie cutter bodies.

I'd whine about BroShep, too, but at least he looks like he can punch a Yahg in the face and make it bleed.

If you had read my earlier post you would have seen that I did serve. I was Air Force for 6 years and served on Army and Naval bases. I was in combat areas as well, so I've seen a wide array of servicemen and women. No petite, barely-muscled women were ever carrying full gear in the dense, humid heat of Iraq I can assure you.

She is too skinny but does it really matter what she looks like in her underwear? 15 page thread (and counting) seems excessive.
