Won't mind having a bulkier femshep actually, but am ok the current model. This one i guess you could blame on still prevalent stereotypes of women and men. I doubt the character modeler consciously tried to make her as thin as possible.

They did try to add quite a bit of muscle tone on femshep through, that's hardly " practically no muscles". Add to that the fact that frontline women aren't exactly known for having ripped physiques and muscle bulk. The big ones you see probably just have more fat, haha

EDIT: Like, seriously, that's not a bad arm. Many teen boys probably have teenier arms, no joke.

Please. I even have friends in military. None of them looks so weak and anorexic.

That is anecdotal evidence you haven't actually provided any. Also if Fem shep is anorexic then a lot of ****ing women in the US is anorexic. Hell I am probably a anorexic dude according to you.

Besides, Shepard is not just ANY soldier.  And BTW, you didn't keep attention to ME codex. Alliance soldiers get gene therapy that IIRC improves their muscle mass among the others. Judging from an ingame example of universally overgrown men (even Joker!) and all those women, they give that only to the former.

Alliance soldiers do get Gene therapy enhancements but prove that it increases muscle mass.

Um... what?

How is the design of any of the females in Reach bad? Halo is generally the game series that gets it right if anything.

I don't see how it's second class treatment when both sexes are made to look "sexy".

You are misrepresenting my argument. This is not what i said, and my stance is the men characters aren't made to look "sexy" in the same sense the women characters are.

Incidentally, let's not try to use the "even ancient greeks portrayed the sexes this way so that's legit" argument -- it should be noted that it's merely a sign that unequal treatment and the different attitudes towards genders associated with it date back as long as few millenia. http://www.angelfire...a3/ancientchix/ for example.

Superhero comics are just incredibly bad at sexualising everything because of the audiance they're trying to attract.

Nevertheless they still do manage to portray their female characters as powerfully built, tall and very fit -- instead of "very big and strong men and very small and curvy women". In other words, they're a case of what you claim to be also norm in games, that is 'sexualizing everyone equally'. And by contrast demonstrate that games --and ME in particular-- fall relatively short in this regard.

The point is that true gender equalism is not possible based on the vast differences between male and female.

My point is to object to different treatment given to characters based on the genders. Because treating people equally is not only certainly possible, but should be striven for.

i'm sorry, but no sane person would say that's "exactly what a fit woman looks like". Mind you, it's not the arms people are fixating on that's the problem here, but... just ugh, pretty much everything else.

Shepard is likely taller than the girl in the picture. Arms are a bit bigger and the legs on Femshep definitely are larger than this woman.

Also its likely Fem shep is wider than her also can't get a good look from this side.

1) FemShep is virtual and does not have the physiology of what I find ideal in a woman
1A) Why should I care? I don't! It's a 'Virtual' representation of a woman

2) FemShep is consistent with how she looks in Mass Effect 1 & 2
2A) Why should she suddenly look like a meathead?

The proportions are way off. Crazily broad shoulders, insanely wide hips, huge space between the legs, etc. It's easy to see that they just took the male skeleton and made some alterations in mass.

Really, I'm not hating on the game, I was just making a point by using it as a comparison. ^_^

Seems we both misunderstood each other then, to which I'm sorry. Still, I can see your point of view, so I will just let it rest, lest we make this into a debate about superhero comics. :P

All this complaining about Shepard's body type reminded me of this article: www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1225912/Combat-Barbie-Soldier-new-Miss-England-Linford-Christies-niece-hands-crown-nightclub-brawl.html Shepard doesn't look too far off from Corporal Hodge by my estimation. I don't see what the big fuss is over.

Because people on here don't like to actually use a freaking search engine to actually look for women in the military. Its simply too much work for them.

I'm actually indifferent to Halo games (no 360, no intention to buy one) but I was always under the impression they looked bulky because their armour wasn't cut down compared to the males.

The artwork has always looked good, but then again I've not seen much ingame footage.

There are different stages of anorexia. Obviously she's not on end-game stadium, but certainly looks unhealthy.

The ones posted here(not all) have insanely muscular arms, yes i find that ugly. Do i find every other girl who doesnt look like Miranda ugly.. no. So dont put words in my mouth, stop crying, do some push ups, dont worry about BioWare not getting, who in you're eyes are, potential customers and leave this personal issue of yours alone.

Experiences from this forum show that devs often listen. And there propably will be further ME franchize games. And I'm only some regular female gamer who says what she would like and what not. I'm tired of double standards and being forced to play weak substitute for a heroine, which whole design is unrealistic "by males for males" fantasy of a woman, not real woman. I hope someday they will understand that this way, coupled with marketing which makes it looks like the main hero is Sheploo, they only loose cash.

One thing is obvious. They desperately need more women in team because especially since ME2, that all looks like a frat party.

Lol that body shape is what I consider a lot of fit teenage boys has.(lol) Excluding the chest and other curves, of course.. That arm looks pretty efficient to me, especially in a pose like that, drawing from memory of people I know with similar looking arms. The thin model shown next is hardly a comparison.

It wasn't. It's not the armour, it's actually quite fine, since they don't stereotype between male and female (or more to point; no breast cups. Yes, I'm looking at you with my spungy eye, BioWare!). It's the anatomy that is way off, since it was based on the male Spartan's skeleton.

She's more comparable to LadyHawke than femShep and looks stronger (propably due a wider shoulders) and more healthy than the latter.

This and remember that Shep is elite soldier with genetic modifications which improved her muscle mass...

Its not really trolling but it is just sad really. The poster reminds me of those same people who love to screw with people because they are skinny. News flash not everyone is freaking anorexic because they are skinny. Hell do a simply google search and you can see people who are pretty thin actually in the military. Shepard isn't as good as I would like but she isn't really unrealistic. A lot of the crap shep could do in ME2 no human today could accomplish with destroying most of the bones in their body.

Nope she looks pretty similar not exactly but not far off at all. Fem shep does have some of her rib cage showing but Male Shepard does also.

Still haven't proved that.

Golden age suffered from turning the female heroes into barbies. Recent artwork has done a much better job of showing all of their heroes as athletic rather than Olympic lifters and models.

I agree, that's the problem. They're supposed to be the same person. How can one be an athlete and the other look like Jane when they're mirror images of one another.
