Enhancements like enhancing muscle mass is allowed but we do not know that Alliance soldiers are allowed that. We only know that Miranda has something like that but remember her father is incredibly wealthy and she was built to be perfect.
Most gene therapy people receive is usually to eliminate genetic diseases or genetic predispositions towards nearsightedness. Ashley had the latter eliminated.

Genetics affect the distribution of nutrients and efficacy muscle fibers and bones. All of these things are needed in order to promote proper growth of muscle tissue and distribution of fat cells. With genetic modification to improve these functions what do you think would be the outcome?

Yup, that picture i included was five minute google search and it wasn't ideal, i was focusing mainly on character size. The one you posted shows what i was getting at much better.android654 wrote...
Golden age suffered from turning the female heroes into barbies. Recent artwork has done a much better job of showing all of their heroes as athletic rather than Olympic lifters and models.

While gene therapy for enhancing muscle mass is present we don't know if the Alliance provides it. All we know is that Ashley got a B4 package and cured near sightedness. Shepard has cybernetic upgrades and Miranda has gene therapy that enhances her strength but from the way she talks about it she is above most humans in physical ability.

Not increase muscle mass. Maybe increase potential muscle mass but not flat-out give you a minimum muscle mass as misoretu9 seems to imply. Also if you can achieve it with genetic therapy it can be achieved naturally.android654 wrote...

This doesn't mean Bioware doesn't want to objectify women or whatever. It just shows that a woman doesn't have to be bulky to be in the military. Hell a 56 year old American woman passed ****ing Basic training recently and she is the oldest person ever to pass basic training in the US army.

To me,the lack of muscles and her butt just make her look overweight not "too skinny". I still don't get where people get that from...

It doesn't necessary say improve muscle mass but it says enhancement allows for improved strength.TheStoner wrote...

If Jane got these enhancements and sat on her ass all day it wouldn't matter. But that isn't the case. Gene therapy to improve functions would improve results from exercise. Simple.

Haha.. I think the disagreements can just be chalked up to aesthetics and subjectivity because there really is nothing to suggest that femshep can't have a body model like that. Sure, it's a little sexed up(badly) but it's not unrealistic or unhealthy. We're still only arguing from preconceived notions of how she should look like, no matter what real world examples are being used.
Honestly I would like to have some fit and attractive Male and Female shepards. Male Shepard clothed doesn't look as buff as nude shep. He only had one outfit that showed that and I rarely let my shep wear it. He looked tone and fit but not anywhere near Jacob or Vega.
Samething I would like for Fem shep though. In clothes she doesn't look (at least her arms don't) as skinny as she does nude but it isn't really that bad. She is attractive and depending on which model you use she looks pretty fit or as fit as you see some female soldiers.

Don't worry BioWare, the straight male approves of FemShep's hips and current thickness of her arms.
And who cares about that if those who will actually play the character disapprove? It's just pathetic - she's a soldier and looks like she never carried anything heavier than a purse.
She's a woman. Military or not, that's what fit women look like. The military doesn't make you muscular or bulky, it makes you fit. This has been pointed out a thousand times, yet it's obvious no one is paying attention.
In any case, army (or basic training) doesn't make person more muscular.

The arm thing, i'm of two minds about. On one hand, i wouldn't say they're too thin as far as body proportions go -- shape/geometry-wise they're actually probably better in that regard than it's normal for computer game models and far from 'twigs'. On the other hand though, i can see why people would want the shape to be made thicker, given Shepard's background et all. And the normal map they've used for her doesn't help.Arppis wrote...
I still the think the arms are pretty poorly designed.
edit: the problem imo isn't as much female Shepard model, but the overly muscular male models -- when she's routinely placed next to multiple such characters, she is bound to appear too frail, relatively.
This is something I had not considered. I myself am a rather large fellow coming from a football background, but if you put me next to a 7 footer or a 500 pounds dinosaur creature, my size won't be as considerable.
That said, FemShep has always just looked odd to me, and though it's a bit late now, I think they could've done a better job designing her.

The link provided below doesn't say whether or not Shepard has undergone any such therapy, so it's still up for discussion.
