It's a shame Gina isn't fighting anymore she had the talent but got demolished by Cyborg.

Ah well, Ronda Rousey leads the MMA cuties now.

You can be chubby without being out of shape.

Just because you're well trained it doesn't mean you can't have some bodyfat.

This is true. But it's not super sexy. Sex sells. Plain and simple, if they made Shep less sexy, they'd lose more interest than they would gain from the folks that are pleased that "Shep looks more real." Sex and media always go hand in hand.

It is unfortunate that a game and company that claim to be more open-minded by having both genders represented in their media, and exploring more controversial topics like homosexuality, sexualize their female protagonist for the sake of fitting in and possibly higher revenues. If you want to be truly above the fold, how about giving us a female character who is not destined to ultimately be drooled over?

A dream that will never happen

They did, actually. Remember Aveline, from DA2?

People are a diverse collection of different genetics and body types. check out this pictorial (warning: athletes in underwear) featuring the body types of many different athletes. You will see that even among those in the same field of athletics, there is a variety of body shapes and sizes.

Sure, every person has their own stereotypes of what a soldier "should" look like, based on historical depictions of soldiers in media, their own experiences, and what have you. But as the linked pictorial shows, people do come in all shapes and sizes, and perhaps we as a media culture should start accepting that different body shapes can still represent strength.

The problem is that female Shepard is closer to some golfer than let's say swimmer or something that requires better physical fitness. Her arms seem so fragile.

I agree that people have different potentials and bodytypes, but I don't know if you really nailed female Shepard's body right there.

Wish we could pick all kinds of body types. Maybe I want to play a fatso Shepard.

I would love this idea.

Yes, it is a damn shame that a content creator perpetuates objectification of women for the sake of profits in this male-dominated industry!

Can you really accuse them of that? She spends most plot in battle armour and headbutts the occasional krogan. Sure they might have gone all the way, but I think some perspective is in order.

Bob yeah again a good image of that woman. Very healthy, very nicely and lightly defined musculature. If only you can play her as the main protagonist in the Drake series I'd definitely play the game.

Capeo yeah femshep went from healthy in ME1 to partly twiggy in ME2 and completely twiggy in ME3.

It's fine and dandy pointing out that people come in all shapes and sizes - that much is true - but why is it always the men that have all the muscle and the women look like supermodels?

FemShep is often touted as a very progressive entity in video games, but how can that continue to be said when she is given the body of someone who doesn't look like they could even carry the guns she uses.

Because some women DON'T look like they can carry a lot of weight, but do anyway. Judging someone's strength or athletic ability by arm size, or any part of their appearance, is not going to end up being very accurate. Each person has their own particular combination of muscle density, tolerance for strain, flexability, etc that all combine to measure how athletic a person is.

Another cool thing about the Uncharted team is they made Chloe sexy without resorting to the norm in video games which is generally giant boobs and cleavage.  They actually did it with a realistic build and, you know, personality.  Go figure.

This is something I'd like to see done.

Wouldn't need to bother having it affect Shepard's armor, of course, but the tech definitely exists to allow a set body size to affect clothing.

Not the greatest example regarding female equality, but the Soul Calibur Character Creator allows you to change both body mass and muscle definition, and the effects carry through to the clothing placed over them.

Would also add a great deal of customisation to Shepard - Soldiers would more likely be very muscular, while Adepts would probably be slimmer.

You completely ignored the rest of my post.

I don't even know what "triggering my ED group" means. The rest of your post was about her ribcage.

It means i sat in a therapy group for people with eating disorders and talked about how the new femshep model was confusing, anxiety provoking, and pretty much messing with my head. I was asked to show the picture to the group by the group leader because we were safe and together, and everyone lost their minds.

I don't care that she is oddly shaped and not muscular. The not muscular part i've been dealing with for 2 games, even the part where she is oddly thin for being so strong which is already confusing for people with body issies. It is the skin texture that displays the illusion that she has lost a lot of weight from me2 to me3 and the fact that her bones are highly defined.

Bones where exactly? An exposed ribcage is not inherently unhealthy. Like I said above, it has to do with body fat percentage. I'd personally be fine with the idea of ripped arms  and legs. Like I mentioned, I think the suggstion that she be build like Gina Carano is not all a bad one. That's a girl that's built to kick the crap out of people.

I would love for her to look like gina carano. This is difficult for me to explain. I'm not saying unhealthy, i'm saying it is triggering to look at because of the bone deffantition.

Femshep has the body of a marathon runner. Surely someone who is forced to hold her gun straight out in front of her at all times in combat zones should have a little muscle in her arms.

I've seen women half my size fighting full out on the gym floor and dominating.

Animations make this more difficult I think.  When you hug Tali, you don't want her to clipping through your pudgy arms, or failing to make contact with your skeletal frame.

Just not physical strength. With those hands, femShep would not be able to open a jar. Let alone be an elite soldier.

I lol'd.

You make a good point.

I had a squad MG gunner that was as skinny, hell, most of my unit were skinny. You'd be surprised what you can push out of skinny. Best hand to hand guy in our squad was this little dude barely 1.70 m high. And he was a monster at wrestling, goddamn monkeyman.

You see, combat unit military life isn't really suited to build up muscle mass. Rather you get better to work with what you got.

Fairplay ^_^

Really I don't care at all about this subject. She looks too skinny, but we don't need to see her in her pants anyway. It's pointless and causes nothing but this kind of mindless argument thread where noting will actually come of it, because it's already in the game.

I'm not saying she doesn't.  I'm just saying proportionally it's actually possible.  As opposed to so many female characters in video games that have unrealistically long legs, tiny waists and gigantic asses and boobs.

Not really. That just takes endurance. and not a whole lot of it either. I can tell you that carrying this around a day or so is much worse,
