Sure, every person has their own stereotypes of what a soldier "should" look like, based on historical depictions of soldiers in media, their own experiences, and what have you. But as the linked pictorial shows, people do come in all shapes and sizes, and perhaps we as a media culture should start accepting that different body shapes can still represent strength.
Not one of those female athletes has very large breasts though. All the game characters do. Hmmmm.
FemShep is way too skinny in her undies - more realistic look in post

Well, Daniella Hantuchova is a tennis player, and thus uses her upper body quite a lot
Ok but femShep also wears heavy armour.

Has anyone here done a wall-sit for several minutes? Or done 5 minutes of just strait jabs on a heavy bag? Muscle endurance has nothing to do with muscle size.tobynator89 wrote...

Not really. That just takes endurance. and not a whole lot of it either. I can tell you that carrying this around a day or so is much worse,
You've made a lot of excellent points, tobynator.

Metal Dragon Kiryu actually in ME1 you didn't have much clipping issue with FemShep it was ME2 when the devs got lazy and used Sheploo's rigging/skeletal structure for FemShep that the clipping issues came into play. Also they had very specific animations for LI's in ME1 for FemShep that were triggered properly during hugging and the romance scene. In ME2 they got lazy and didn't put the same quality of work into the animations and rendering of FemShep in ME2 that they put into ME1. So yeah... all these issues in ME2 was due to laziness and not actually putting in quality work for FemShep.

It's fine and dandy pointing out that people come in all shapes and sizes - that much is true - but why is it always the men that have all the muscle and the women look like supermodels?
FemShep is often touted as a very progressive entity in video games, but how can that continue to be said when she is given the body of someone who doesn't look like they could even carry the guns she uses.
I've seen women half my size firing a MG3 from the shoulder, that is no small feat, like so

This is kinda off point but the clipping made me think of this. Hopefully this is just in the demo but I put in the code for one of my FemSheps and her eyelashes kept clipping through her eyelids everytime she tried to make an "expression". It looked horrible. If that's the way it's going to be I'd rather have the old stone faced Shep back.

People do come in all shapes and sizes, but a woman who constantly carries a lot of weight in the form of equipment (if it isn't some ultralight material) develops some kind of form. Ok, I don't want a bulky femShep with muscles that make the Goverminator cry in shame.Stanley Woo wrote...

Just thinking out loud here.
But a woman like that, even if being a skinny type, after six months of not being in active duty, usually gains a little weight. Not being fat, but you certainly wouldn't see her ribcage.
But that's not a big deal, really, rather funny than annoying or anything like that.

This is true. But it's not super sexy. Sex sells. Plain and simple, if they made Shep less sexy, they'd lose more interest than they would gain from the folks that are pleased that "Shep looks more real." Sex and media always go hand in hand.Freakiq wrote...
You can be chubby without being out of shape.
Just because you're well trained it doesn't mean you can't have some bodyfat.
It is unfortunate that a game and company that claim to be more open-minded by having both genders represented in their media, and exploring more controversial topics like homosexuality, sexualize their female protagonist for the sake of fitting in and possibly higher revenues. If you want to be truly above the fold, how about giving us a female character who is not destined to ultimately be drooled over?
A dream that will never happen
They did, actually. Remember Aveline, from DA2?
Don't remind me...most ppl thought she was some hidious viking dude...trolling obvious but thats my point.
She was my dream girl...and Bioware denied her to me....now Ashley got the "treatment"...sigh....oh well.

not neccesarily, like I've stated before based on army experience you'd be surprised what you can push out of skinny arms.

BioWare did what everyone else in the industry does, give the heroine a body fit for a lingerie commercial.
I can't blame them, but I wish they went with something different than your typical hot chick.

If you look back at Jade Empire the animations for the female's were unique and the romance scenes didn't have clipping issues.
It's in recent years that Bioware has decided to become lazy and not put in the same quality of work that they used to. This is what has me so upset is because when I first played Bioware games they were amazing, now... now they are starting to suck because they aren't putting the same love, quality, and greatness into their games that they used to.

The I'd say the character model is the right size but, as others have said, I think that there is no muscle definition. Its such a simple thing that would go miles to giving FemShep look more realistic body. And it's not like like it hasn't been done well before in game; the Sims 3 had a muscle slider but also a definition slider.

What romance scene? All I remember was a little kiss and a quick fade out. Hell, some of them didn't even show the kiss.
