Kai is baiscally Nega shepard, He wins most of the fights his in, granted he gets beat up quite a bit. His intelligent enough that even when he fails he can persuade TIM to keep him around.

Well that's the thing, people aren't going to take him as seriously because of that book canon or not.

So when ME3 comes out, people are going in with preconceptions of him being a cereal killer.
