 I keep seeing this argument alot, which is quite distressing as it's just plain wrong. The point of balancing things, whether in a competetive game or in a co-op game, is to let people play the way they want to(within reason) without gimping themselves/the team.

People who like the Drell Vangaurd for some reason getting kicked from Gold becasue Drell Vangaurd sucks? That's bad, needs balancing.

The 4th person joining a Gold group gets kicked becasue they're not an Asari Adept and the team needs one? That's bad, needs balancing.

A person who loves SMGs not being able to use one and be at their full potential becasue SMGs suck? 
That's bad, needs balancing. 

A person who hates pistols being forced to use the Carnifex to be at their full potential?
That's bad, needs balancing.

Of course, the "witihn reason" part above is important. No one should be trying to go all Heavy Weapons Guy with an Adept, no matter how much they want to. But each class, as it is meant to be played, should be viable with any weapon suitable for the range that class should be played at.


EDIT: and as soon as i hit post, I see someone has already made a thread on this. Bleh.

Most things you talk about are people acting stupid. As much as I would like to see that but you can not balance stupidity.

Yeah I agree with all of that. I don't understand people who think balance doesn't matter in co-op or even singleplayer.

The most effective gun should not be a lightweight pistol.

Ideally, all options have their strengths and weaknesses. If I want to play a drell vanguard, I shouldn't feel as though I'm hurting my team. Likewise, no class should be so powerful that it can solo much of the content. After all, it's a cooperative game. You should have to cooperate to win.

Agree the weapons need rebalancing, and the pistols need a nerf in something,k as it stands a pistol is better than a sniper rifle, a shotgun or an assault rifle. Why you can because you can snipe something on the other-side of the map and do more damage than a maxed out Viper Sniper, can fire far more shots than any sniper. The Assault Rifles come closest is all-round ability to the pistols but there damage is to low. Also all Pistols weight next to nothing = +200% recharge rate.
Shotgun do more damage but range and ROF puts them below pistols.

Lastly the SMGs why use them when they ar e worse than anything else in game in every eventuality? Stupidly low range and damage and accuracy only thing they got is an insane ROF but still it takes longer to do the same damage as the other guns unless your shooting the "barn" AKA atlas at short range (then you see a better DPS, but that about it).

Edit Pistols should be less effecive than any other weapon, as there true bonus is there super light weight, with the heavy pistols being good but not outstanding. A gun that gives a +190+% power regen should be worse than any gun with a +180% or less recharge when it comes to shooting stuff. And the one with -ves % regen should do a ton of damage comepared to the +190+% pistols .

For classes I agree since this only affects multiplayer and has no effect on single player.

Weapons however are a different issue. Because single player and multiplayer share the same values modifying a weapon in one mode WILL affect the weapon in the other.

Don't forget these weapons were balanced for single player, not multiplayer. By making them balanced in multiplayer you could end up with single player weapons becoming unbalanced. I don't want multiplayer making my SP experiences horrible/too easy.

There is a difference between what is needed and what people believe is needed.

Asari adept is the meta for the demo, that doesn't mean the world ends without her or that gold is impossible. People are simply unwilling to "waste" their time in random matches doing things in any way other than the meta because it might fail.

And experience shows people like that will usually fail anyways.
