There are 7 different endings, 1 of which is a surprise ending you get from beating a New Game+ campaign. I don't think you can play post-last mission, none of the endings seem to allow it besides the Perfect Ending.

Ah well shame about no playing post game, but given that BioWare are clearly going to make lots and lots of dlc I assume i'll do a fair few playthroughs per Sheppy, thanks for the info. x

not sure i understand, so if you get the perfect ending, you can play post-ending? and would the surprise ending in NG+ be considered a "good" or "perfect" ending as well, or is the surprise just some new scenes added to the normal ending which depends on your choices and GaW resources like usual?

and would also appreciate if you could PM me the romance options for male and female shepard, thanks in advance.

I'm not sure. It doesn't mention anything--that I can see anyway--about playing post-ending. (I just said none of the endings seem to support post-ending play conclusion wise, and if one did, it would be the Perfect Ending). The surprise ending is just that: a surprise. The strategy guide keeps it that way, just like the appearance of Tali wearing no mask.

Keeping/destroying the Collector Base has some affect on what ending(s) you get to choose for Mass Effect 3.
