Should Zhu's Hope be purged? (Science says yes!)

My point is that any good science can be used to make predictions. Even if the Thorian is not completely the same as earthly plants, many of the same rules governing their mechanics may still apply.Olej z Maku wrote...
True, but what does that have to do with my argument that spores don't have to grow into new Thorians?bobobo878 wrote...
Thorians and Drell didn't have to evolve to look just like humans either, but they did anyway. Convergent evolution is a common theme in this series.

it's entirely possible by that point you'll have a cure to thorian infestation, one which is less drastic than fire (and lots of it).

This is all well and good, assuming the Thorian has the same evolutionary traits of that of Earth flora, which isn't likely for obvious reasons. However, I don't feel that the spores are no longer viable, if they ever were, as a reproductive element.
The spores seem to be parasitic in nature, using the host to their [the Thorian's] end while the host suffers through the effects. All the symptoms that the colonists suffered are similar to many types of neurological fungal infections in both humans and other organisms.
This is even saying if the spores are from the Thorian itself. A type of fungus may have grown a symbiotic relationship with the Thorian over thousands/millions of years. The Thorian may have a neurological link with this fungus and provides some benefit to the fungus, while the fungus provides protection through this neurological link. How that carries over through each individual spore is beyond our scope of understanding. However, a potential flaw is that it seems evident that in both the victims and the creepers, there is chlorophyll production in the bodies.
Finally, the spores may be a vestigial component of what may have once been the Thorian's reproductive system. Due to the thousands to millions of years without the ability to reproduce, the reproductive system may have adapted a previous neurological function (similar to the Asari and Prothean neurological system) in reproduction to be more of a defense system.
However, this is all just theory, as we don't know anything of the Thorian outside of its interaction with the Zhu's Hope colony.

So you say. But you're making baseless assumptions, just like any renegade would.

So what happens if you save Zhus Hope in ME1, and convince the corp to fork out for medical research/treatment in ME2?

As much as the information bobo gave could be possible, I don't think the ME team put as much of those factors into the plot.

That is possible, but it's a heavy risk. I didn't say it was impossible for this to turn out well for paragon players, but the thorian babies are already kicking, so to speak, and they may have a hard time curing all of them before it is too late.Raxxman wrote...

Medicine is also vastly improved in the ME3 universe, should be less need to purge the infected. The planet, that's a different story. But then again, these are space plants, and aliens (Asari).

come on, this is mass effect.
Splitting the fleet to save the DA is basically risking the entire galaxy to save a few thousands lives.
That's risk. You're at the galatic equiv of not sniffing the milk before drinking.

Edit: Ever since I first learned aboot fungi that can turn ants, and other insects, into zombies, I've always wondered if such a thing could effect humans. So if this theory turns out to be true, I'll be doubly in lurve!

And it was Not to spread across the galaxy in a Man Thing fury heheh. To bad saren double delt on it making it all pissy when shepard wanted ta bargin hehe
Seemed yo me it pretty much wanted to be left alone to do whatever plant stuff they do heheh and not wanting to give up its tools
