This is insane! I have many different playthroughs, some of them I purge the little bastards because you don't know if the Thorian is really dead.

No, because I refuse to be ExoGenni's pawn, or to do their own dirty work for them.

They don't want to purge the thorian becasue it's dangerous, they would have done so the moment colonist became infected if that the case. They want it purged because having a bunch of live colonist as evidence of what they've done in the presence of a government official made them nervous. They basically want you to destroy the evidence that they did test on human colonist to see what this creature could do in secret, and than claim that they had no knowledge on a big planet that controls people living under their colony.

So, don't be a corporate puppet, spare the colony and make exogenni cough up the cash for reparations.

I don't like what ExoGenni did any more than you do, but their are bigger things at stake than sticking it to the 1%.

I'm not sure I want to believe any of this. The OP makes a pretty convincing case, but my character has been planning to 'mance Shiala since ME1, but now you say I should kill her just because you think that the Thorian is similar to some plant you read about in an undergraduate biology class? I just don't buy it. I'm not sure whether I don't believe you or if I just don't want to, but either way I'm just not going to do it, and if Shiala turns into a plant beast and kills me in ME3, so be it.

This is a case for quarantine at most - nothing more.

You can save the colony even if you've killed the colonists you just need to save either that exo-gei guy or shiala and didn't the grenade gas do something to the spores?

Like i said, I would have quarantined the colony if that were an option, but the game did not allow that.

The gas grenades were just a neurotoxin designed to knock them out until Shepard kills the Thorian.  As you will discover in ME2, the gametophytes in the bodies of the colonists are still alive and well.

Feh. Exterminatus is the only solution. It's the only way to be sure.

You're right. The colony must be purged with fire...

Also it would be wise not to sleep with Shiala.

If she has an unstable nervous system, theres a good chance embracing eternity with her could fry you like an ardat yakshi

think about the possibilities! Fornax stocks would skyrocket when Hanar isnt the only thing featured in the tentacle section!

An interesting point, but trying to find a cure for it without mercilessly slaughtering a colony of mind-controlled civilians still seems like the correct answer. If it comes to the point where it appears the Thorian may be reproducing in this way, THEN we can consider euthenasia. At this point all we know is that the colonists on Zhu's Hope are being mind-controlled via spores which may or may not double as seeds.

I reject your reality and substitute my own!

This is what saves are for.

Nice thread though, but I hate biology. Give me a car engine, computer, or airplane to tinker with and I'm golden, just don't expect me to care about biological science.

Hah, I'm the same way. I can discuss aerodynamics, physics, and inorganic chemistry all day long. Biology that's above the stuff I might have learned in high school or entry-level college goes right over my head.

The end justifies the means.

If you save the colonists while there is even a small chance of them still being infected by the spores and by consequence, posing a threat to the galaxy, how can Shepard let that happen? Spectres have to make tough decisions. If Shepard is truly a Paragon, then he will have to make that decision. It will be more evil to spare the colonists than to kill them, in that case.

However, ingame I do not believe it is stated or implied that Shepard has that kind of knowledge, thus saving the colony is the "right" thing to do.

Note: If this is a troll post, then feel free to smite me for feeding it. :P

Hmmm, I think you've only helped to strengthen my feelings about keeping the colony alive. After the reapers I'm going to need something new to fight and more space zombies to kill and the best way to get that in my mind is this Thorian spawn you're hypothesizing. Bravo good sir/ma'am!
