Sabbatine is correct - best to activate cloak the split-second before interacting with the device...
...and hope to whatever deity you hold dear that it lasts long enough before you get spotted and people start shooting at you.   


On a related note: since it's pretty obvious that Infiltrators are best-suited to this kind of thing because of the cloak, why is it that most people will race to do this thing themselves, rather than let an Infiltrator take care of it and instead provide covering fire?

Seriously - when I play an Infiltrator, I tend to go for them. If I'm any other class and there's an Infiltrator on the team, they'll probably take the responsibility, so I acknowledge, and support them, rather than 'race them' to do it instead. It's a team-based game, for goodness sake - a bit of teamwork wouldn't go amiss!!

Because half the time people in random games totally ignore the objectives in favour of increasing their kill count,  it is better to get a head start and go do it yourself.

At least, that is what I assume they are doing when they run off in the opposite direction to the objective.

I know right! I haven't played much on the multiplayer (Too busy freaking out about the single player) ,but I always play infiltrator and everytime my team runs around and doesn't cover me! Why would a feaking krogan need to do that!!!
