I always had to roll my eyes at people that complained about Kahlee... but Deception characterizes her just like the naters do... It's almost like the enitre thing is a parody of a Mass effect novel

A part of me hopes that Kai Leng won't be defeated in ME3 so he can show up later in DLC for such cereal and toothbrush references to be implemented.

After reading that comic... I totally agree. That was the most asinine things I've ever read. No respect for the fans or the series itself to at least do some research on the subject he (Dietz) was tackling. It's like BW mentioned some ME keywords and told him to write a story based on vague summaries of ME2 and Retribution.

First impressions matter, but rarely across mediums.  We may laugh at the joke that is Kai Leng in the books, but if he appears as badass as he is meant to be in the game, we may take him far more seriously.  If BioWare can successfully make him intimidating, and resist temptation to make any cereal-references with him in-game whatsoever, than I can push the novel aside and take him seriously.

Take the Joker, if you've seen the Dark Knight.  Let's pretend he was painted as a straight-forward, down-right linear and normal guy in some books.  Just a dumb, immature character who nobody liked.  Then take the psychotic, scary nutjob he was in the movie.  Would you truly have a hard time taking him seriously if the performance was so damn good, despite the book(s)?

That said, if Kai Leng fails to deliver that frightening, powerful shock that only a badass assassin can give, we won't be looking at an awesome character, but a cereal-eating Cerberus joke.

Kai Leng is pretty much ruined forever for me. I've read what he does and can do in the script. None of it is enough to make up for the cereal, the vases, the toothbrushes, or the fact that he's Snow.

That's probably exactly what happened.

Part of the blame goes to Dietz for not doing his research and part of it goes to Bioware for obviously not giving him a good-enough summary + printing the damn thing in the first place.

When it comes to Deception there's really nothing BW or anyone can do to "fix" it short of completely rewriting it from scratch to be a completely different story. I'm not talking about some of the lore errors that people already know about. The whole story at its core is just plain horrible.

I mean they kill off all of the interesting people, never mind they did so in the dumbest way possible, there's literally zero reason to kill them off other then a lame attempt to force "DRAMA" down the reader's throat.

Seriously, call me if they make it so Gillian actually lives, otherwise this bull**** never happened as far as I'm concerned.

It's scary to think that this was actually based on the REAL book. I had heard it was bad, but this is not just bad, it's TERRIBAD.

I have to think that BioWare had nothing to do with this other than owning the IP. It's good that they're getting this crap redone, it's hardly a serious story. I don't think I'll even bother to look at it after the rewrite - the name is forever tainted.
