The thing is - if they made a mass effect MMO it would diverge so much from the single player game (both in mechanics as well as plotlines, etc.) that it would be a totally different thing. I do not really want a generic MMO with some ME paint on it.

And what would they have learned from TOR? It has been a huge financial hit from what I have read. That means they will do the same thing to ME and I will pass on that.

ooh... an Uncharted Type of ME game where we play an explorer (Salarian!) on an alien world searching for prothean ruins!

Make it so bioware!

I won't play an MMO.

ME might make a fantastic MMO. It could be epic, truly.

I still won't play it. I find MMOs are time-consuming in a way that becomes NOT FUN. Even the good ones turn that way.

Personally, I'd love to see the Mass Effect series go a little more DA:O/Firefly style. Choose a race and build a crew and pick a faction (merc, pirate, Spectre, etc.) - SP and wildly different outcomes. That would be my preference.

Mass Effect should never be a MMO.

1. It alienates console fans.
2. Not everyone wants to waste their lives level grinding.
3. I refuse to pay a monthly fee to play ONE game.

Pretty much this, I don't care if the next ME game is a FPS, RTS or whatever I'll be happy to play it as long as its not a MMO

Not surprising :P. They've always said the Mass Effect world was ripe for expansion and open gameplay. They would want to judge the success of Star Wars: TOR before attempting to make an MMO with their own IP, though. TOR is definitely one of the better themeparks out there, but beyond initial sales, I'm not sure about profit through retention rates.

I love KOTOR but I won't touch SWTOR with a ten foot pole.

I love Mass Effect but I won't touch a ME-MMO with a fen foot pole.

I can see the reasons for doing such a game and wouldn't mind people having fun with it, but it's not my cup of tea.

1. I don't care.
2. Clearly you haven't played Old Republic. There is no grind which leads to people complaining how fast it was.
3. Guild Wars is buy to play. You know like a regular game.

If a Mass Effect mmo turned out to be anything like Star Wars the Old Republic then I wouldn't care. Old Republic is the same old generic MMO and the "story" is no better than LotrO or WoW. I don't hate TOR so don't even say that but I did expect something better. Voice acting and dialogue doesn't make an MMO better frankly the endgame, crafting, pvp and pve content has clearly suffered.

With console being the very big meat in the Mass Effect sandwiche.. I don't think they are in a hurry to flick off their biggest cash cow market.. I play Mass Effect on both Xbox and PC, so yeah - I can see both sides etc.

Dammit don't freeze the franchise so 25 can stand in a room trying to kill a Volus for ten minutes.

There is no reason a Mass Effect  MMo should stop other games from being in the same universe. EA is always in a hurry to make more money and they have been trying forever to get a cash cow as big as WoW. TOR sold 2 million copies which is really good and at $15 a month times 1.7 million subs is $25 million a month for EA ofcourse this isn't accurate just a guess. How many copies of Mass Effect 1,2 and 3 does that equal I wonder.

If this ever happend I would ASSUME Dust 514 would be an MMO to draw inspiration from. Eve Online is a sandbox MMO which is well pretty damn awesome. Everyone tries to **** everyone over like well real life. Dust 514 will allow players to connect with Eve players but its a MMOFPS (not entirely sure yet) and its on PS3 only.

Exactly.

Even the coop multiplayer now is time consuming enough (and I had previously given up online multiplayer due to it being repetitive indulgence); I will draw the line at an MMO because I don't like being sucked into things like that.

I'd love a proper exploration and unique game, Firefly style. They really need to add in some basic space simulation to complement the TPS/RPG. Would add a whole load of depth.

You want space only or ground only? Because frankly if you want both I don't see it exist outside of an MMO.

Another space MMO? Weird that they would want to compete against swotor with such a similar theme

i hate the swtor communty, people would rather frap with AI then do content with other player.  I hope ME would be different.  they should try a rts ME first.

Both, and I can see it existing in a singleplayer (or small scale multiplayer) game, although of course it would use a lot of resources, and pretty much be three games in one (shooter, spaceflight, roleplaying).

I don't mind if the space simulation is slightly arcadey and simplified, or even if it is done from the perspective of inside the ship, and restricted to local systems only (using mass relays to jump between systems, and FTL for long travel within and between neighbouring systems).

This wouldn't be the Normandy, so they could give us a decent viewscreen, or windowed cockpit, and a small personal crew.

I wouldn't mind having 8 unique storylines taking place in the ME universe. I love MMO's and the storylines are the best part of SWTOR.

I wouldn't mind an MMO in the mass effect world, in fact I think it could be a breath of fresh air for the stale genre. The battles in the co-op portion of ME3 aren't very heavy on context- you can transplant gameplay of that style to just about any sort of encounter. Have enemy types, expanded progression system, inventory, etc...

But only if they keep it as a shooter/RPG hybrid like that. Another taskbar clicking simulator like TOR and I wouldn't spend the time it took to read the trailer's titles.

MMO's don't suck because they're MMO's, they suck because all they do is reskin the exact same RPG mechanics with a different IP's artworks,

sadly, practically all MMO's i know of suck.

Following from said mechanics they always feature the pattern that Time = more in-game Power, skill and tactics have no relevance whatsoever, it's a feature of RPG's i fully despise.

Hope they do not go along this route for Mass Effect. I enjoy Bioware games because their single player, you do not get that same sense of immersion from an MMO. SWTOR was not that bad, but the novelty of having companion characters and your own story arc wears off quickly...

If the next ME game is single player it would be interesting if you could choose a different race and maybe origins like the original Dragon Age. The plot could be set a few decades or a century after the end of ME3 so we can see how the galaxy is doing after the Reapers are gone.

In other words, it sounds like they learned their lesson from SWTOR, and if there ever is a Mass Effect MMO, they'll do things differently.  Personally, I'm tired of MMOs.  Truly.  I'd like to see BioWare continue to expand the ME universe with other single-player titles set in different periods of the story.  Hoping they avoid taking Mass Effect that direction.

Great job throwing in anti-SWTOR agenda into this. Dr. Ray's comment had absolutely nothing to do with SWTOR, and SWTOR is, as of the beginning of February, set with 1.7 million subs (out of 2 million purchases). It's not like they are having problems. I don't think they would be thinking of Mass Effect in the MMO space at all if that were the case.

I'm a massive ME fan, but there's no chance in the world I would ever pay for it. Sorry, the reason ME is great is because it is about one character's rise. If I wanted otherwise, I would just play TOR and pretend everything is ME related.
