I squeezed in a quick bronze match before I ran off to work this morning and had the most frustrating game of had so far. There was one player about rank 30ish playing a mid-level Vanguard who started out playing on the other side of the map and left it to me and the one other player to complete objectives while they killed stuff. A bit annoying but it kept enemies distracted and he shouldn't expect us to come and revive him when he went down.
But then he would simply stop playing for some waves. In fact for five out of the eleven waves their character didn't even move. He got hunted down and killed several times but a few he just stayed crouched down, a blue speck on the map for the entire wave. It was tough going with one a couple of engineers (and the other was only level 8) but we pulled it off. It was pretty galling when this jerk then got an equal share of the reward after doing nothing to earn it (about 106k I believe).
Was this guy gaming the system, relying on the shared XP to level him up for doing nothing?
Gaming the system?

Probably. I played a match today with someone who crouched in the landing zone for 9 waves. Took part in the 10th wave and then missed the extraction in the final... I was bit upset that time.

They should have an inactivity kick feature (like EVERY OTHER GAME WITH MP!)

Getting "boosted"? Sounds like it.
I concur, it'd annoy me beyond my mental capacity but it's just one of those things. Either A) He had actual things to deal with IRL,
Terribad connection or C) He's just a self entitled ""young adult""...is the term we'll use.
Either way, not much can be done I guess, as annoying as it is :'3.

If you've ever played an MMO or other multiplayer game that relies on grouping to get experience or complete difficult tasks... you'll know exactly what they were doing.
Milking experience.
Milking experience.

An inactivity kick is a good idea. I like helping other people level up their characters but they should at least play the game!

Yeah I'm not big on multiplayer, the jerks tend to put me off. But for my beloved ME I was willing to give it a go and it's been fun so far, and the jerk ratio has been pretty good so far.

Milking xp in a demo with nothing to do but what you avoid by milking xp is really silly.
Honestly it's more likely the guy was busy with something. I've started a few matches only to be stopped by a phone call or visit I had to take, or I had some technical issue that made me AFK.

I wish there was an inactivity kick and a pause feature. I mention the pause feature, because a few times I've needed to use the bathroom and have missed a wave, angering my team. Sometimes a person can't hold it for 20 minutes. Should point out I have my mic hooked up and working, so I tell people if I'm going AFK.

Inactivity kicks may be easier to break in a game like this(because rounds can end quickly), just tap your keys a few times a minute and you're set for free xp.

Yeah, inactivity kicks can be gamed easily. What's needed is a vote kick, even if it could be abused. It's better than being abused by AFKers.
And re: vote kick abuse, who cares. It may not be fair but not everyone will like you and want to play the game with you, find another match.
