Eurogamer posted a retrospective of the Baldur's Gate games recently. It boils down to one fan's nostalgic memories of playing through the series, but I enjoyed the read nonetheless. Beamdog needs to make an announcement soon or I'm going to lose my patience and replay the originals.

BG2 remains my favorite game of all time. I really hope this project, whatever it is, lives up to the original.

Needless to say, I'll be keeping an eye on this.

To each his own but I've replayed Ultima III to VI last year and while I welcome the improvements on the graphic departments and agree that those games look dated, at the same time I think that the classic Ultimas still hold their ground and that are superior to many hyped "rpgs" of our age in terms of gameplay and roleplaying.

They are still quite addictive and very fun. The lack of photorealistic graphics leaves a lot of space for your imagination to cover and so it's in many ways easier to get immersed in the story. Today there is none (at least, if you do not consider aimless Skyrim's exploration as a proper substitute for emergent gaming).

Btw, drawing maps of the dungeouns is a very fun minigame in itself.



Please don't put in into that category. Like I said, I can play very dated games, but Ultima is just beyond me even though I know it would be a great game to play. Daggerfall? Yeah! Arena? Yeah! BG? Hell Yeah! PST? OH MAH GOD YES!

Ultima... I respect it, but I know I couldn't play it. But the last thing I want is to be put into "OH MAH GAWWD GRAPHIC SUKZ" list :D

Also, new music in the background. I for one can't  immediately recognize the track..  is it from either of the BGs?

Yes, that's Baldur's Gate music I'm pretty sure. Baldur's Gate 1 to be specific.

Googled atari baldur's gate announcement and it looks like a new installment for Baldur's Gate is a go. I'd love an HD version of the old games as well.

You can trade your second born child for Planescape Torment.  I was about to go play Baldur's Gate 2 but decided against it in case a remade Baldur's Gate came out soon.

Im holding myself too. Good thing got İcewind dale series and Temple of Elemantal Evil last month. They will satisfy my for some time :)


Also need to plan my new (15th ;)) playthrough for BG :)
