Yeah he wasnt so unique without bhaalspawn "matter" And i really saved his sword through all the game just to found nothing happens when they unite :/

Still as a former godchild just kept him for conversations for my evil party.

Heh, so did I but I was so disappointed that he wasn't practically a god of destruction when I finally put him into battle. I worked so hard to take him down in the first game, and in the second game's expansion he's nothing special. Lame! So I went back to Minsc because I missed his sword meet evil comments.

Buh? :o Sarevok was the most powerful NPC you could recruit. His stats allowed him to dual class into a thief or mage. The former made him nearly unstoppable, and the latter may as well have been god mode. Sarevok also had the unique Deathbringer assault ability that had a 3% chance of meting out an additional 200 slashing damage on any critical hit. Dude was overpowered. Minsc wasn't even in the same time zone. :pinched:

His BG1 incarnation was more durable, though. It came from his armor coming with sky high magic and elemental resistance. Unfortunately he lost the ability to tap into his armor and sword's full power with the loss of Bhaal's essence. Still, depowered as Sarevok was, he was still badass.

For all the time it takes to get his fighter levels back if you dual-class him, one might as well keep the old party members.

Not to mention by then all your party members are already demigods. Without Minsc, it's just not the same for me.

That is true, but the point is Sarevok is a stronger overall character. That still applies if he isn't multiclassed. The only advantage Minsc has over him are two free stars in dual wield and armor of faith.

Personally, I've never finished ToB with Sarevok or Minsc in my party. My evil games always ended shortly into ToB, and Minsc is one of my least liked characters. I have made it through BG and SoA with him a few times at most. I vastly prefer Mazzy, Keldorn, Jaheira, or Valygar to him. In terms of sheer effectiveness, even Haer'dalis tops Minsc. As far as comic relief, I find Jan Jansen a more well rounded character. Minsc is too one-note. He doesn't come across as a person.

Says in an article I just read that they might announce the games for consoles next week - I really hope they'll port them to 360. Would love to finally play them and see what all the buzz is about.

Plus, BW obviously has no decent plans going forward - so perhaps I need to look back to find what I need.

If you didnt finish Throne of Bhall with Sarevok you missed a lot of good dialog. Especially at last where he wants you to claim "dat powa"
As for Minsc, ı always have him in my parties if im not a fighter/ranger. He is too crazy to be left behind. If you have Edwin(therefore Edwina) in your party Minsc is a must. And there is a banter where Jan Jansen steals Boo from him. Priceless.

come to think of it anything related to Jan jansen is helluva fun. Naughty jokes he tells to Korgan, his questions to Viconia or his arguments with Edwin on magic stuff.

Summary of information people have gathered about EE project.

* "There will be two games. Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition and Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition #bgee=BG+TotSC, bg2ee=bg2+ToB"
* "new content for the game you love, made by some of the original team members"
* "…Beamdog exclusive. As for other platforms, tune is same time next week"
* "We take mods seriously. (I led NWN after all) mods both current and future are important. More announcements to come"
* "We're using the 2nd Edition D&D rules"
* "Infinity Enhanced is based off the latest Throne of Bhall codebase"
* "We're 2D isometric all the way"
* "We're going to stay with the BG model of only voicing some of the content. We feel it allows for more in-depth writing."
* "we are trying hard not to break mods"
* In answer to comparing the look against BG + Widescreen mod: "it will be better. We've got the code to rework the UI and rendering"

Part of me wishes they would go the way Never Ending Jorney mod did. Being able to visit IWD as bhaal spawn. http://vlad.blackwyr...mages/scr19.jpg

Fantastic year overall, end to one series and resurrection for antoher long loved series.

I only took him in when playing an evil character. None of my good or neutral PCs were forgiving enough to bring along their father's unrepentant murderer. The furthest I got with him in my party was Amkethran. I know how his story ends and the content of his dialogue from reading files, so it's no big loss.

I've taken Minsc plenty of times in Shadows of Amn, but I've never finished ToB with him. So I've seen all his funniest banters. The best is probably when you bring him to the Desharik to get yourselves committed to Spellhold. I laughed for over two minutes nonstop. XD The problem with Minsc was that once I heard everything, he was no longer funny. And without the funny, there is nothing else of note about him.

Hahaha just remembered that Spellhold moment, didn't take long to look like mad.

I always pair Minsc with Lilarcor, a fitting couple(threesome if we include Boo) Its still colourfull for me even after all that playthroughs.
But cant change Korgan's "A skullbreaker" or "Blasted beggar's immune" line to anything :)

*Sobs in hysteria*
Their design philosophy is so good, pure and true it makes me believe modern gamers do not deserve anything produced by these people! We simply are not worthy.

Seriously, for first time since I turned old( :(  ) it feels like somebody out there is making a game designed just for me. *Gives devs no less than three  free healing  potions each as sign of good will*

I recently (re-)brought BG1&BG2 from gog.com but I'll just have to wait now :) Looks like they may try to crowd fund (Kickstarter) BG3. Link

Edit:
Closing comment from original gamespy article

"The pressure is intense!" Tofer said. "We're doing everything we can
maintain the magic and legacy. I totally believe that [Baldur's Gate] is
more relevant now than ever. We will be able to reach such a wider
audience this time around. It's amazing how global the game really is."

If they redid it with turn based combat like ToEE, then I would be really excited.

Anyone know if any of the remainign Baldur's Gate modding communities have been contacted for one reason or another by the devs?

Isn't the infinity engine (even i enhanced) alittle, well alot, outdated? they called icewind dale 2 (one of my favorite games of all time. pretty much given up on finding an uncorrupted copy) the swan song of the engine. And it was nice and pretty at the time, but theirs a reason it fell out of favor: 2d graphics in a none indie game? I know its a remake, but doesn't mean a new perspective wont do it good... just my opinion, no need to kill me, not trying force these down anyone throat.

Too late we started to cast Finger of Death/Power Word: Kill:devil:

Joking aside, getting into a new 3D engine for old BGs could hinder the games somehow. As long as they make 2d graphics scale with resolution there wont be any problems. As old as it is Bg and IWD series still have superb back ground drawing than alot of modern games.
They just need to upgrade UI and characters/armor/weapons/spells and  just add some movement to backplan scenery. Like trees dance with wind, realistic water, dynamic lighting.

BTW assassins are on their way and they have blade that your name put on it. I suggest you to run. :)

It jinxes my head when I try to imagine a situation where playing something as involving and time consuming as Baldur's Gate on Ipad sounds like  good idea.

"Hmmmz, 15 mins til train arrives. Not enough time for Farmville, mayhaps I just  clear 2-3 traps down @ Naskhel mines real quick!"
It just..
it isn't what is ment to be!

Tis' relatively relative..
Ever since 2003 or so, for reasons we can not fully comprehend, everybody making RPGs has used more or less identical game engine. (Ok not everybody, we have Elder Scrolls among precious few others that forms significant exception.)I'm SICK  of it. MMORPGs, single player RPGs, doesn't matter. All have same goddamned over the shoulder action bars at bottom pan dat cam  press X to shoot fire from wand move with mouseclicks or mayhaps WASD doopdidaa going on now. Nobody has bothered to build or try anything differend since Aurora. It's like somebody passed a memo around 2002 going " Aha!That's it!Perfect engine for any and all cRPGs has been made. Phew. We can now stop trying to think of new or different ways to portray world, player character  and ways latter moves and interacts with former! "

When you put this insanely tired, tried and worn mold of a game engine against Infinity, do you truly feel, in thine heart of hearts, that it is Infinity that is the outdated one? You have saved world with WASD for gazillion times over the last decade. (Or with pad if you really insist on doing it wrong.)  At least Infinity hasn't been recycled and  reused constantly over and over and over and over again for 10 years now, without any apparent interest or motivation to try and reimagine things somewhat.

We've been stuck with this goddamned engine for so long we've forgotten the seemingly inevitable limitations and shortcomings that have been part of the deal for 10 years now. You who call IWD and 2d out of date I ask you this! When was the last time you played an RPG where you dropped a sword on ground and lo and/or behold, it actually appears on the floor of the dungeon you are crawling? I won't further taint this thread with such imaginary marvels from world of tomorrow:O  Thanks to limitations of the engine(s) we are stuck with, it has been some 10 years since items have existed in any relevant way in cRPGs. Items are now but names and numbers in loot tables of a dead mob or chest. Once you loot em,they turn into names and numbers in clumsy made-for-pad excel sheet that is supposedly an inventory of some kind. You see some form of graphical representation of item actually existing in the world only if it is something you end up wearing.

If only Infinity(or a similar engine) had gotten even a fraction of love and attention Aurora and WoW's engine or their  10^1000 clones have been given. Who knows where this imaginary nonexistant bird's eye engine  could have evolved over the years,  if gently nourished by talented Dev team working with modern powerhouse PCs in mind. I foresee awesome tactical combat mechanics, beautiful  dynamic environment and storylines/dialogue approaching presentation of virtual novels/audiobooks.

Ye olde bird's eye can be aesthetically pleasing in ways over the shoulder camera pan hazzle will never manage. It's like admiring a beautiful painting vs watching TV series of people running around as camera crews chase em. Like Survivor!Yeah. We arrive to TLDR:  Infinity Engine vs Modern CRPGs is essentilly identical comparsion with  visiting Louvre vs watching Reality TV. :o
