I'd like to use voice chat to tame the wall of text and chaos. If anybody has a mike, let me know. We can use Steam or Ventrilo or other VOIP.

Well, chaos can be reduced and immersion improved if things are done right: making it clear when you're talking OOC, try to keep it to a minimum and use it only when necessary (there wasn't much IC talk today anyway, except for certain characters spying on the paladin's ******), letting the PC who starts a conversation to finish it instead of everyone clicking their own response, planning before combat instead of just letting the level 1 rogue charge a band of orcs, etc.

The wall of text is in great part a consecuence of it being a module with static quests and NPCs with their own dialogue. Voice chat helps a bit but those will provoke walls of text regardless of how you play.

I don't have a micro or anything to do voice chat, and I really don't think that using it between some of the players, but not all, will help to reduce chaos, more on the contrary since some people won't be aware of what the others talk.

Okay, I installed NWNx4 and Skywing's xp_bugfix.dll for servers....hopefully that fixes most of the transition crashes Image IPB.

I did some research and the transition crashing seems fairly common if your server is not using these fixes. Also, they suggest that players use Skywing's Client Extension, but I'll leave that up to each of you (I probably won't be installing the CE just yet).

As we regroup tomorrow, I'll level everyone to the same level and XP (probably level 3 at this point) with whatever character you bring in from your local vault.

We probably should make sure and do "export characters" every so often...mainly before transitions...but, again, hopefully adding Skywing's fixes to the server will prevent many of the crashes.

So I'll see everyone in 11.5 hours from now (7 AM in Arizona, 10 AM EST DST New York...don't forget to move your clocks ahead for those who observe DST in the USA).

Here are a few screenshots from today's session (If you would like the chat log, send me and e-mail):

The host of my IWD Remake game is experienced and has a good system.  We mainly have one PC do the conversations/transactions.  Also, we tend to have the same PC go through the transitions first, after everyone indicates they are ready and after a "save" is performed.  I don't think exporting characters are necessarily needed, due to the characters being within the save, but it doesn't hurt.  At least a couple of us are using the Client Extension.

Have fun Image IPB

Edit:

Should we expect any problems moving our saves to the final version?

Would you consider also posting a thread about times for group sessions on the module's page itself on Nexus? You can create a thread on the Discussion tab for the mod which will appear there.

Sure can. Today and tomorrow's sessions were not meant to accomplish anything other then celebrate the release of the complete campaign...future sessions will be more organized and hopefully run on a more stable server:innocent:. I may try and run sessions on nwconnections with posts of times on The Nexus as well.

Those are some good points but it does not negate the positives of using voice chat.  If you feel comfortable without it, that is fine.  But, I prefer to use it.  It does make playing the game much more managable because you can reserve it for OOC, such as game management, saving text chat for RP.

While people are busy clicking they are very likely to miss what you are saying especially if an NPC is throwing up a wall of text.  Having more people on chat, reduces that, a lot.

I have XFire, Steam, Teamspeak, Mumble, and Ventrillo if anyone wants to voice chat through the game.

I'd like to give voce chat a try, but I'll leave that for future sessions for me.
Axe_edge: IWD NWN2 has 8 modules that make up the campaign. Any module that you have already entered will not be updated as your save game will use it's stored version of the module. When you add the new version, just make sure you only overwrite and add files...do not delete files. The reason being, I restructured some of the hak file names...so the new versions well be looking for the new hak file names and the module versions in your save game files will be looking for the old hak file names...oh the joys of beta testing ;-)

Today's session begins in 1 hr...

I just received the ftp info from Maximus...i need to download a ftp program and then upload and wait...I'll try and do that today.

Server is up...one person logged in (ntb)...are our clocks off due to DST?

I couldn't come until a bit later today, but... well, you saw it.

What's the max party size in single player? 4, 6?

FileZilla's a good free FTP program, if you need one.

I´d like to play through the campaign with another player. I can host. Anyone up to it? Please send me a message.

I'd like to take part in a complete play through, but if I am the host, I need to figure out how to make a more robust server (maybe only server vault PCs, server saves, NWNx4 + xp_bugfix, and block override folders). Maybe we can set-up sessions on nwconnections.

Okay, it is now up on The Vault as well. It is one large file instead of (13) 25MB files. It is the exact same version as what is on The Nexus.

SDF, ignore my pm about continuing an on-going game, I just loaded up our last save and was able to continue to chapter five. Thanks.

As for hosting, I could do a new campaign, but I don't do voice unless it's an FPS game, and I do expect roleplaying. So sending the rogue into a band of orcs or standing around oogling another player isn't my idea of a good time or great teamwork. I can be found on NWC if you're interested, Slowdive.fan, just let me know what your schedule's like.

That was actually RPing, and it wasn't "standing around", it was just a moment and with a RP reason, as stupid as it may sound. The rogue wasn't "sent" to the orcs either. It was all pretty chaotic and there was a time or two when the rogue just went ahead. So it was badly planned, yes, but it's not as if he was being trolled or something.

I agree with the rest of your post. The second day was better in general, though there still was some OOC stuff that could, and should have been avoided.

That's why we need voice chat. You can't coordinate through text chat.

Sorry, I misunderstood the post. Anyway, I play in three games and dm a fourth and the only time I've had or seen planning issues was in my dmed game. The problem there stemmed from a player who was too impatient with everything: planning, rping, etc. He just wanted to go out and kill stuff, so he got the opportunity. Sometimes it killed him, but he kept at it. It got to the point where I had to drop him because the others were rping and he just sat on his thumbs and didn't do anything. Anyway, the point is that planning can be done via text, it just may take a bit longer than doing so via voice. The four games I'm involved in have a forum thread setup somewhere that the players can talk to each other inbetween games to discuss tatics and planning. I'm not against using VoIP, I just don't like to talk and type at the same time.

No problem, just wanted to clear that in case there was some misunderstanding. Everything can be done with just written text, that's the way it's done in PWs, I guess some people may find it harder, but you definitely don't need voice chat to coordinate. Besides, I don't know how good I'd be at English voice chat.

Also keep in mind that the purpose of our weekend sessions was not to accomplish anything. It was to have fun and celebrate the IWD release so we were probably doing more ooc than usual. Most of the confusion was due to my inexperience as a DM, host server and playing MP sessions in general. I don't know that i would want to hear eachothers voices as it may take away from some of the immersion, immagination, or mystery for me. I like the idea of a thread to discuss the results of a season and plan out the next session.

I recently started a game set in Planescape over on Neverwinter Connections and this is the forum thread we're using to discuss the game and do RP posts between sessions: http://neverwinterco...9/guildid/0.htm When I run a campaign, this is what I'm used to doing. Axe Edge has already said that he'd be interested in starting another campaign (we play on Sundays, but we used the previous version that only went up to chapter four) and I wouldn't mind playing a different character, like say a monk or a paladin. If we can get at least four players, we can setup a guild here for the campaign so we're not cluttering up this thread with planning. My Sunday group will be visiting Severed Hand this coming Sunday, so I'll be able to provide better feedback soon. Thanks again for releasing this, SDF, we've been having a lot of fun in it.:D
