Greetings! Hope you all are having a great night. :)

Like the title says, I don't know how to import my finished character from ME1 into ME2 off of Steam on the PC. I keep hearing from other answers to this question that they need to set something up before they open or play the game, put in some sort of technical documentation, but where and how? Also, I heard a lot about doing something with the Config files, but I don't see them anywhere! Every time I right click on the button or folder, there is no Config. What should I do? I own a Windows 7 PC, by the way.

I desperately need your help, since the time frame until ME3 is drawing near. If anyone could help me with this, I'd be grateful. Thank you all so much in advance!

Importing characters from Mass Effect(1) should be automatic, if it's not automatically updating.
%\\Documents\\BioWare\\Mass Effect\\Save - is where the "default" saves have to be located.

Even if you don't have Mass Effect(1) installed on the system, create a equivelant path and place the saves there.

After that launch the Mass Effect 2 launcher, and go to:

(Select) "Configure" ->
(Select) "Save Games" ->
(Select) "Copy Mass Effect 1 Save Games"

This will import the characters in to Mass Effect 2. Assuming you've completed Mass Effect or "character" save instead of a game save.

The game save MUST look like:

"Char_01-XX-X-X-X-XX-X-XXXX-XX-(X or XX).MassEffectSave"

(All "X" are numbers as I'm not sure do they change depending on date/playthroughs etc.)

 DeusExForever? You the no commentary max difficulty YouTube walkthough guy? If it hadn't been for you I'd never have bought ME 1 & 2 and spent half my spare time playing them. My wife hates you. :lol:

1.2 Importing
1.2.1 How do I import my Shepard from ME1 PC?
From ME2's patch notes:

1) Run the Mass Effect 2 configuration utility from the main launcher.
2) Click the 'Save Games' button.
3) Click the 'Copy Mass Effect 1 Save Games' button,and select the appropriate location for your ME1 save game.
(The default location is 'My Documents\\bioware\\Mass Effect\\Save'.)
4) This will copy the appropriate save games from your ME1 directory into the proper place in the ME2 directory.
5) Run Mass Effect 2, and from the main menu select 'New Game'.
6) Select 'Import ME1 Character'.
7) Your savegame should now show up in the list.

This can also be done manually if you wish. As mentioned above, ME1 saves are in Documents\\Bioware\\Mass Effect\\Save\\. Files starting with Shepard's first name are mid-game saves and are of no use to ME2. The files with names filled with numbers and dashes, following the naming pattern Char_01-LL-#-#-#-DD-MM-YYYY-HH-MM.MassEffectSave, are the end-game saves that can be imported to ME2. Copy any or all of them to Documents\\Bioware\\Mass Effect 2\\Save\\ME1\\ and they should show up for importation in ME2.

^^^ From the ME2 Tech Forum FAQ...just sayin'

Nothing meant seriously, and by the sounds of things it could be coincidence anyway. There's someone on YouTube going by the name of DeusEx4Ever who done a couple of very good video walkthroughs without the usual commentary that many people doing walkthroughs/let's plays do. The second one is Mass Effect 2 on Insanity and because it looked like such a good game I bought both MEs and have spent a lot of spare time playing them the last few weeks. And I was just joking that I think it's starting to annoy my wife and wanted to blame someone else. As I said, nothing real and if the similar name, which I thought was the same but isn't quite, is just a coincidence then not even that.
