Its a joke of a system and EA knows it . They need to get rid of it

I'm sure you prefer CoD's structured unlocks and Prestiging.

Yes because of course anything at all related to call of duty is an abolutely, utterly evil abomination and would ruin Mass Effect. That's a perfectly reasonable way of thinking.

Seriously, I don't even play call of duty, the last one I owned was like the 2nd one. I really don't care what's in call of duty. If something works, why not use it?

Yes cause its the gold standard in the form of what MP unlocks should be . even COD MW 3 's spec ops has a unlock and leveling up system . That is far better than this restrictive piece of garbage .

Don't like it don't play it and just go back to COD then.

I agree, the unlock system does need some work. I for one have never unlocked a new character other than through my starter pack. My last five "Veteran Packs" have all given me Viper upgrades...

An unlocking mechanic totally based on random luck is never a good idea.

There are people on this board as well as others who have literally spent a million credits on packs and still not got the one item they really want, which another player obtained in their starter pack.

Unlocks and level-ups need to be based on time played, and skills demonstrated during game play. There is nothing wrong with a luck based system with the potential of giving out great items early but when it is the only way to obtain an item (that less skilled players with less time in the game already have) it is a recipe for frustration and ultimately hacking.

Bioware needs to really think about changing this.

I hope that what we currently see is not the way the system is supposed to work.
It took me 850 veteran packs to unlock all the content available in the demo. So without cheating that's 17 million credits. So at least ~ 350 hours of play ? And there will be a lot more content to unlock in the full game.

You'd think that saying go play what you like is a logical argument.

...but then I saw his Pro-Cerberus thread about a year or so ago. Logic doesn't matter.

And yes to the above poster, anything CoD is a utter abomination to the gaming world in general and should be instantly discarded from anyone's mind as a 'good idea' or 'gold standard'. Don't like my opinion, bite me.

You are unlocking new things. Everytime you unlock a character already unlocked, you gain customization, lights, skin tones for aliens, ectera.

After you've unlocked all of those, or a weapon is at X, then it stops appearing in the upgrade system.

True for weapons, not for characters.

I unlocked full customzation for the Human Infiltrator (lvl 20) a few days ago. Since then, I've gotten a half dozen more human Inflitrator cards in the packs.

Yeah, I got a bunch of packs for my Infiltrator and Adept too. Only problem was that they were already at max.

I'd guess that it's better handled in the full game, where there's more stuff to unlock.
