I like the endings. It does something that a lot of developers (and TV producers *cough*Lost*cough*) are scared to do: give closure. If this were some ordinary galactic war I would understand the stereotypical "run off into the sunset and everything is A-OK" ending. However, this is the equivalent of a massive porcupine uprising against humanity. Prices must be paid.
Shepard giving his life to give every species in the galaxy a chance to live is the "sweet" aspect. The alternative is turning into reaper-goo. This time around, every species must advance to FTL from the ashes of their near destruction *cue Legion voice* by their own terms. This actually sets up a time skip into future species confrontations quite nicely. It even paves the path for a brand new IP that is an IP sequel to the ME trilogy... brilliant imo. In three hundred years, when humanity achieves FTL again, what will the Council races be like? Will they have killed each other off? What about human colonies that could survive on their own, such as Eden Prime? What if humanity is approached by another species having not achieved FTL tech? What if some species in their Industrial Revolution equivalent, beneath the Reaper's notice, now has a heads up over everyone?
I can't wait to see the next IP.
That said, I don't like that Shepard is separated from his crew for eternity. That's lame. I will have spent three games building up those guys! If anything, Shepard should have been stranded *with* his crew on some unknown planet in uncharted space, with a functional Normandy. Explore areas where no species has ever been...
The leaked endings don't give closure and kill any chance of a new ME entry or any hype for them. Fans haven't forgiven Bioware for DAII and SWTOR. Now they can't even enjoy ME3 either? Bioware is taking a huge plunge in quality, one time is fine. Two times? It may get better? Three times? The future doesn't look so bright anymore now does it?
This will severely harm Biowares reputation and they wont be able to count on their fans of past games anymore to hype up their games and pass them off from word of mouth. Also, the internet is a terrible beast when angered and it doesn't forget. If the leaks are true than Bioware has single handedly ruined their reputation, over the course of many years, due to their more recent titles simply not bareing the quality Bioware is known for.
Furthermore, Bioware has now set up a history of blatantly ignoring their fans and doing the oposite of what they wanted. DAII is nothing that DA:O fans expected. DA: A was a horrible expansion. Their sales numbers reflect that. How much more will Bioware take befoe shaping up and returning to their roots when they actually cared what their fans wanted and releasing quality work?
Last i heard SWTOR is doing really good, don't know what you are complaining about
