I'm trying to re-install Mass Effect on my system, the install goes fine right up until all the shortcuts are supposed to be created. The installer shows "Error" when trying to create each of the various shortcuts, including the Desktop shortcut! After the first install did this I un-installed and tried again but the same thing happened, an error when the installer tried to create the shortcuts.
I'm running WinXP with SP3, the game itself appears to install fine. Checking under "All Programs - Games - BioWare" shows a "Mass Effect" folder that only has a "Web Links" folder, no shortcuts at all. Checking my hard drive shows the "C:\\Documents and Settings\\All Users\\Start Menu\\Programs\\Games\\BioWare\\Mass Effect" and "C:\\Documents and Settings\\All Users\\Start Menu\\Programs\\Games\\BioWare\\Mass Effect\\Web Links" folders, but both are otherwise empty. The game itself is installed under "D:\\Games\\BioWare\\Mass Effect", I haven't yet installed the 1.02 patch but I have contacted EA Support regarding a CD-key for the Bring Down the Sky DLC.
So, does anyone have any ideas on what the problem might be? Obviously I can manually create some of the shortcuts, but I'd like to have all the shortcuts and I'm not sure what they all are, let alone what each one should be.

Problem solved, after installing the 1.02 patch and the Bring Down the Sky DLC (received the code from EA Support in less than 5 minutes) I was able to run the Configuration Utility (it was crashing just after starting before installing the 1.02 patch) so I was able to go to the "Repair" tab and use the "Create Start Menu Shortcuts" and "Create Desktop Shortcut" repair options which worked a treat!
Now to check the game runs OK and then get Mass Effect 2 re-installed!
