So we can't get the ending we want after all?

"If the artist pissed off their entire audience they will have no audience." By me.
That applies if you are a solo writer/painter etc. And yes, for the most part it holds up, but here's the thing:
I'm an illustrator studying to be a gamedesigner. If somebody tells me they do not like the motive of an illustration or painting I do, then tough luck, that is entirely in my power and my power alone.
But that's not what they're saying here.
What is happening now is somebody telling me "I really like what you've done, the technique, the colour, composition, it's all great, love the motive of that guy in the painting...but you really screwed up the proportions on his face, his nose doesn't seem to fit in at all and his eyes are a colour that doesn't match."
And hell yeah I would definitely go and change something about that. Because I don't owe it to fans or critics, but to myself.
If we were all just complaining about something that did not fit in with our personal preferences, this threa would have either died, closed down or deteriorated into a flamewar 900 pages ago.
We're not self-entitled whiners who did not get the candy.
We are disappointed and saddened that one of the greatest sci-fi sagas of today, ended in a way that not only breaks with the central themes of the series up that point, but does so in a manner that contradicts the central methods of gamedesign: Gameplay and Storytelling.
So this is not whining, this is us, hoping and asking Bioware, that they do not leave one of their best game-series on a note that will keep the game from being remembered as the great game that it actually is, up until the last 5 minutes.
Considering that there was no foreshadowing whatsoever to the presence of the catalyst VI in the citadel prior to that point, changing the last 5 minutes also would not mess with the game up until that point either.

Too bad guys, we're basically got robbed of the experience. Casey stated he wanted the ending to be remembered and not forgotten. He sure delivered! This ending is like George Lucas would make a 7th Star Wars movie: the force is gone. The ending is that bad. I am astounded (and that is an experience in understatements) that he is so unwilling to listen to what 90% of the gamers think. The polls are almost unanimous in their opinions, 90%. That would hold in any statistical situation as far as elections are concerned. 90% are against the endings Casey, that is no joke. Why are you not listening?
The best thing is the first comment:
"Should I ever meet Casey Hudson I’ll be sure to kick him in the balls so that it’s a memorable experience for him."
Although funny to the point I linked it to my friends who're with us in this fight but don't/can't post here... we probably shouldn't even joke about this kind of stuff lest another media outlet starts thinking we're the whiny fanboys with anger management problems.
Also another great comic from the escapist. (possibly has been posted here before)

That pretty much sums up the why "memorable" isn't the same as "good". I hope he damn well remembers that after someone kicks him in the bollocks.

BTW i havent said anything until now, but is there really any more damning a criticism than the fact that for the first time in the series I have absolutely no desire to start a new game?
1. I realllly hope that DLC is real!
2. Completely agree. After my first run of ME2 I immediately went and bought ME1 and did 3 ME1/ME2 playthroughs in a row. With ME3 I can't even bring myself to play the great Multiplayer the ending was so depressing. Definately will not be doing anymore single player unless the ending is fixed.
I hope that's real... otherwise it's the most evil troll ever.

Then I finished the game. Never before have I ran so quickly to the forums to make sure I wasn't alone in how I felt about an ending.
On some level, yes, okay, it makes sense that Shep would sacrifice herself to save the galaxy. But I worked so damn hard in 1, 2 and 3 to keep as many people alive as possible, to make the galaxy a better place to accept that the Mass Relays explode and suddenly everyone on every planet to be set back hundreds of years! The feeling of a unified galaxy being ripped away, of everyone being separated again, completely gutted me.
And of course, I would have prefered my Shepard to live.
Okay, added my voice to the discontent. I'll slip back into lurkdom and nurse my wounds.

This experience is the same regardless of your Shepard’s moral alignment and regardless of the decisions you made to get to this point.
Whether the choices succeed or fail depends solely on your Effective Military Strength score and nothing else.
The player never once gets to see how any of the choices they made affected the galaxy, or how the lives of people they touched continue, or don’t, after the war.
What people/fans want is the chance to experience the game BioWare explicitly advertised.
Maybe BioWare is listening to us, who knows? They'd always a good realation to their fans.

4chan or not false hope is better than now hope, and if i was in the place of any developer/tester of the game (any game) and i was invovled with such dissapointing mess. That would be one of the 1st places i would post to make sure it goes viral.

I just finished ME3 moments ago. I have been raving to a friend about how fantastic this game was during my play sessions. Everything about it felt amazing! Seeing everyone again, even the deaths of old squadmates, I could cope with that. It felt like it was correctly part of the story. As things would naturally progress. The whole galaxy feel huge and alive and thriving, despite the Reapers.
