Actually, *IF* it is well done and shows a lot of polish (Like LOTSB) then it is quite possible that what will be remembered is the fans uproar over nothing and an awesome finish to the Shepard Saga.

Apart from the bit whereby they had to ship an incomplete game and then release DLC to finish it...:bandit:

Finally finished the game so I feel I can comment.

My squad consisted of Liara and EDI. Why is Liara standing on the planet the Normady crashed on without a scratch on her (and she was not my LI). Where the heck did she go at the end? It sure seems she left me to die.

Two ways they can play it well three actually.

Admit there is DLC coming - that its free or not - won't say - but you'll get to find out what happens; these endings were due to the game being leaked.  Its the totally blunt truth......aka not going to happen

Second; DLC is announced........BW says we hear the fans; we understand how much we love the game; and will to that extra mine to give people more of an ending......we're dong this for our fans....and BW turns what looks like a PR mess into much rejoying...................likelyhood; possible.

Three - leave as it is - say FU to majority of fanbase.......and kill one of the best scifi series in 20 years. likelyhood; EA learned a lot from its former days so likelyhood........slime.

Remember even NBC caved when it came to Farscape in the way they originally ended it.  They gave up Peacekeeper wars; was it really what we wanted??  No we wanted the series to continue but at least they gave us more; and actual ending.

Checking in (now that I figured out why I couldn't post before).

I'd like to think (hope) that when the release happens on the 15th, they will supplement it with a worldwide free DLC that gives the endings promised. Some way they were trying to keep the full endings a secret until the full release.

I'm not expecting it, but I just can't believe this set of endings with no difference and no good choices among them is all we get. Especially after all that work to unite the Quarians and the Geth only to destroy the Geth anyway.

Ready to Hold the Line.

One thing that keeps bugging me is how the Reapers liked saying "You cannot comprehend" when talking about their motives for continuing the "cycle." Honestly, at least by what we were given of it, their motives were fairly comprehensible.

This situation puts all of the large game sites in an awkward situation. That's the reason they're being such clowns about this whole thing. They give the game nearly perfect scores, showing they are completely out of touch with the people who in theory, their reviews are written for.

Meanwhile being too critical of Bioware/EA can put them in a bad spot long term. So they rage against us for putting them in such an awkward position. Really they should be trying to identify where they stopped seeing eye to eye with the average gamer.

They can only react this way for so long. Their articles are consumed by the people they are lambasting right now. You don't hold on to your paycheck for very long under this model. They'll begrudgingly adjust at some point and Bioware won't get as many softball questions going forward.

Had this idea, after ruminating on it for a few days, but not heavily. What about a "chemical" WMD of sorts, instead of harming organics it's designed to target synthetics. Say you helped Legion and the geth, you could use some sort of "coding" to make them immune to the weapon's affect. And I am not talking about EMP, by the way. I imagine it like a "Reaper smallpox." Thumbs up or down?

That's more or less what i thought the crucible would do before I got to the end. Or some sort of EMP atleast.

For me the Crucible always looked like a giant LAZER that would cut these fish things in half.

WAIT A MINUTE.
WAIT JUST A DARN MINUTE.

The Citadel is a mass relay, right? Sovereign said so.

Yeah but it's just an one-way-relay. Because of this the Prothean scientists died by starvation when they entered it and became aware that they can't escape from the empty citadel.

You're thinking the Conduit, not the Citadel. The Conduit was one-way, it was never established that the Citadel itself is one-way.

Also forgetting the Alpha Relay from Mass Effect 2 (Arrival DLC). Sovereign was (probably) only using the citadell to communicate to his breathren. Give the starting signal. I dont think the citadel itself is referred to as a mass relay anywhere.

On Illos in your conversation with vigil he tells you that the Citadel is a trap, that it is in fact a giant mass relay that connects to darkspace.

That is part of why people think it is a dream.  There are many things that support that theory (although some may say it is reaching quite a bit).

For example:

Why was Normandy INSIDE a relay jump when the relays blew?  That would imply that he actually left before shep got to the Citadel.

Why did Jeff still hobble out the door in the merge ending?  Would not merging with synthetics have made his bones better?  How does he survive the crash at all?  The ship is busted up pretty badly, implying a non soft landing. His bones break VERY easily.  He should be on a stretcher at the least (if not dead).

How did your squad mates get on Normandy?  ME does not have Teleportation.

Etc.

Hmmmm...

I wonder why PCGamer and RockPaperShotgun hasn't written anything about the whole situation...

Any theories?

Actually i sent an email to RockPaperShotgun and Jim replied 1 minute later(Awesome guy rly!) and said they gonna have an article tomorrow or Friday.I think its more or less because the game releases tomorrow in Japan and any conversation about ending is a spoiler,so gaming sites like RPS which value themselves and their readers(IGN u suck) dont do that.

Obsidian released an half assed ending for KOTOR 2 - fans blamed Lucas Arts.
Obsidian relased a crappy ending for NWN2 - Fans blamed Atari.

Bioware can release a DLC to continue or 'fix' the ending and fans will blame EA.

Plenty of times ;)

It's my new favorite video

It is sad that even that video fails to address every problem with the ending, because there is just so many.

Part of me thinks that the rumour *could* be true, considering that ME2 came with the Cerberus network and this allowed access to free DLC, including Zieed, the Firewalker pack and new weapons and armour. From what I was reading 'The Truth' (if real) wasn't offering much more than this - so from the download/technical viewpoint I can't see any problems. (Meaning that such a DLC would be within the limitations of the console networks). I was in fact wondering why BW hadn't given any 'free' DLC away with new copies of the game (Collectors edition aside) when they did just this for both ME2 and DA2.

It *might* make some sense if they had decided to hold onto the 'real' ending if it wasn't ready, instead opting to tweek it and release it at a slightly later date in an effort to get people to buy new copies of the game. Consider that it is quite possible to play ME2 without any of the DLC and not notice, or if you like players who bought ME2 second hand had no real incentive to get the Cerberus Network or even register their game.
By having the 'ending' part of a free DLC only available to those people who have a new copy - meaning those who have the online pass - anyone buying the game second hand either have to pay for the online pass, or miss out on the real ending.
This I can understand from a business prospective, and it would also avoid Bioware being prosecuted for forcing people to pay extra money to get the ending they were promised since they are not really charging for that.

The counter argument is that if this is/was a marketing ploy it has and will backfire in a spectacular way. It certainly seems questionable as to if EA would have continued to try and play this game when the result has been their share price dropping to its lowest level in a year. I *could* understand a desire not to admit that the ending on the disk isn't the games 'real' ending prior to the games release. But...well this argument is again questionable when the only market left is Japan - and the news about the pitiful endings will have been floating around the net for a good two weeks or so by this point. Believe it or not the Japanese are just as capable of using the internet as anyone else....

So I'm in two minds about this. On one hand it seems reasonable, on the other a very bad business decision.

We'll just have to wait and see....

Still holding the line...and waving cane at any trolls that try to grab it.

Usual reminder: let's make sure to keep the Bioware/EA bashing to a minimum, especially stuff aimed at Bioware employees. They're human beings like us, so let's be cool. The longer we stay civil and cool the more likely we'll be taken seriously.

Everyone seems to be doing a good job of this right now, so it's just a reminder.
