Preistly and I are having a convo:
@manveerheir I concur the charitable donation is a good thing but I think attaching an unrelated agenda to a charity drive is reprehensible.
@Thessair @manveerheir Its a result of the agenda, used as a way to have something good come from the ending. No agenda = no charity drive
@dragonsamantha @manveerheir The charity drive should be the agenda. Otherwise the charity is being exploited to make a point.
@Thessair @manveerheir The charity drive = result of fan's sadness & made < 30k for sick kids I don't think they care why it was donated.
Exploited!? I see nothing but gain for this charity. The people who started this charity knew there was a chance that we would fail in our quest for a better ending but they did it anyway. How can this be seen as expoiting a charity.
We're focusing/aimming our rage into something positive. Whether we get our endings or not we've helped kids. *shakes head* gah
A sign that they are worried maybe?
A 'vocal minority' of 'self-entitled' players has started an unorginized and unfunded campaign that has caused their share-price to fall, along with sales of their newest game AND forced a worldwide drop in the price of that game. They (meaning we) have even managed to gain growing support from the very same press that not that long ago were raging against us.
Just as importantly our complaints/points are consistent, politely worded and reasonable.
Bioware/EA is suddenly running around, forced onto the defensive by a force that they can't control, isn't letting up and is only getting stronger by the hour....And ME3 STILL hasn't been released everywhere yet!
Be proud, keep up the fight and hold that blessed line!
Please stop stating that about the stock price. You are just adding to the disinformation going around.
I understand you are upset I am too but EAs stock has been in a general decline and plateau for some time now.
Also several markets in Europe are on the point of collapse and there are tons of problems with the oil industry effecting the entire stock market.
With 3 million sales share holders will be happy, if the next bioware game were to sell badly due to this then sure that'd be an effect of this on the stock market.
Please just look at the history of EA stock before the release of mass effect, EA has been at a low for a very long time.
You are right, the stock price has been falling since November 2011, but you must remember that some of it is due to SW:TOR as you can see in the article
here.
To say that we are misinformed is highly inaccurate, and I believe I have the knowledge to read how the stock market works due to my background (economist), though I do not usually work on this area..
At late november the EA stock price rated at 25,2 per share, suffering quite a drop after the fumble with SW:TOR release and game quality (lack of it actually). A title such as Mass Effect 3 would most likely be their come back, as we have seen happening before with other major companies in the industry, and that's one of the reasons there was so much publicity around the game, so many official statements, and also (I believe) why the media industry was so eager (paid too) to give the game such high ratings, even before most of the players had finished the game.
However, EA (and Bioware) did not expect the game to be such a failure. There were in fact 890,000 units sold at day 1 (pre order included) and about 3.5 millions units shipped across the globe. It doesn't mean they sold those 3.5 million units of the game. Actually, some major retailers such as Amazon have already dropped the price even in the Collectors Edition (which is now under 80 USD) so they could keep selling it.
It is true that the shares are not falling as fast we some expected, but remember, there is a vast media coverage on the game, and we also, are in fact drawing attention to it. Plus, the stocks in the past 4 months already suffered nearly a 9,00 USD fall, (from 25,2 to 16,5 USD) which amounts to over 30% of a drop in this period. Were I an investor I would be running scared. However, we must remember that though this is Bioware alleged "masterpiece", it is not EA's only releasing game. (ie. The Sims Showtime, etc.)
It seems Bioware was just hit by a truck, twice in a row, and now due to both sock and disbelief, they are in denial, remaining silent until they can figure what happened to them. Also, I would think they do not believe most of our statements sayind we are not going to purchase further EA/Bioware products due to their lacking of consurmer's service, or reliability and of a quality final product.
The situation as it stands has two major issues, and I am not talking about the product (or liking/disliking it). First of all, if this was not a PR stunt, and it was simply a poor management of the game development, gamers all around will feel cheated, for purchasing a game that was not delivered.
On the other hand, if this was a PR stunt meant to impress players and draw attention to the game, it was simply distasteful, and opens a bad precedent in the gaming industry. It this proves true, it is a clear statement that the companies are allowed to do as they pleased, even to deliver unfinished products (and charge more for the extra bit – paid DLC) without any accountability.
Last, but not least, if the game was as first stated just poor, and the customer base succeeds on getting a “new ending” it will also open a precedent in the gaming industry. I know for a fact, since I am part of the movement, that our cause is just, and we are right to demand an explanation from Bioware/EA and to request a change of some kind, even if minor. Also we are not a vocal minority; we are according to most pools at least 85% of the ME3 player base asking for the same thing. However many times in the past the “vocal minority” has indeed asked for changes, and these changes sometimes were accepted in the pursuit of a wider base (such was the case of SOE with SWG CU and NGE). However, in some of these cases the vocal minority was just that, a minority that ended up spoiling the games for those who were satisfied with it the way it was.
On this case however, this argument (even though is my own) is meaningless for a simple reason. Those who are happy with the game as it is do not need to do anything. They just have to refuse the download/patch (if it’s the case) and keep playing the game as it is. For those of us who want the change, it would show a great improvement in the company/gamer communication meaning that the companies care about us (players) more than they care about profiting alone.
One last argument before I withdraw is directed to those people who claim that the game is fine as it is, and the resources for a new endings should be better used making new content for the game (ie. Content they could use). This is a ludicrous and flawed argument from the start. If such were true, why would Bioware “waste” resources on options such as multiplayer and kinetics when these same resources would have been better used to provide a polished final game.
All we know is that the gaming industry is changing, and I hope for the best. If the companies decide to acknowledge us (players and customers) and listen to what we have to say, much good can come out of it. Listening is not the same as hearing by the way. If however they decide to stay on the old script of silence and denial, we (gamers) will move on, to other games and other stories, and we will simply leave behind those companies who didn’t care enough about the loyal fans.
Let’s Hold the Line People..
