Based on Origin and some of the leaked facts about the game, Bioware deserves the coming storm.

Judging by their amendments to their CoC and previously the blog post by Mac, it's safe to say they are now officially going into damage control mode. These next few weeks are going to be nothing short of entertaining.

Oh they are in full damage mode

I'm just surprised they didn't play it safe with the endings to be honest. I'm sure whatever happens I will enjoy the game leading up to the ending. It's just ashame that there isn't an option for people who dislike bitter endings.

So, I'm still planning to see how the game itself handles this, and I'm hoping that all the doom and gloom isn't warranted.  But assuming all of this spoiler information is true, I can boil down the reason for all the anger and resentment into three words:

The Reapers win.

After all the talk about how we would fight against them, how we would triumph and defeat them, we don't.  We lose, and they win.

Not a total victory, mind you, considering the goal is the near-extinction of sentient life.  And considering they're all destroyed or controlled at the end, it's a case of "winning the battle but losing the war."  But the Mass Effect saga has been all about fighting that battle, and in the end we're chalking a line under the W column for the Reapers.

Without the mass relays, galactic civilization as it was is finished.  Colonies separated off from much-needed supplies will slowly die off, their members fighting amongst themselves for the last scraps of sustenance.  Planets no longer under the authority of a galaxy-wide government will flounder as they struggle to establish a new rule of law.  Many will inevitably descend into war and anarchy, and millions if not billions will die in the struggles ahead.  Corporations based upon trade between systems will collapse, and their workers left unemployed on planets that will not be able to provide for them.

And that's not even getting into the emotional impact, as millions of families, parents and children, husbands and wives, will be separated from their loved ones in the blink of an eye.  What was once a routine trip to another planet could now be an insurmountable barrier.

Factor in the devastation wrought by the Reapers before this, and what you're left with is are scattered, depopulated planets, forced to dig themselves out of the ruins without having the access to the resources they had before.  A few may survive.  Many will not.  The end result is almost the same as when the Reapers were still active: a once-proud galaxy reduced to rubble.

And the reward for the people who engineered this situation?  Shepard's crew is left stranded, separated forever from any friends and family.  Reduced to little more than animals, breeding out of necessity and foraging for scraps on an unfamiliar world.  Several will inevitably die when the medical supplies and access to specialized rations start to run out.  After all their battles, their reward is to be stranded and lost forever.

And the Reapers's greatest enemy, the one they hated more than any other being?  Dead.  They set out to kill Shepard, and although it cost them their own existence, they succeeded.  And even if there is an ending where Shepard does survive, s/he's left with a world utterly in ruins in front of him/her, and has most likely lost most of his/her loved ones on the other end of a mass relay that no longer exists.

The Reapers win.  We lose.  In a series that up to this point has been about triumphing against impossible odds and coming out scarred but unbeaten, such an ending is a painful shift in tone, and one that, if true, betrays everything the series has been up to this point.

But, hey, it's only a game, right? Image IPB

Look at this: its descibed that shepard can survive the destroy the reapers option and earth to be okay. that means the relays are not destoryed cause that will catch earth in a supernova or whatsitcalled.. isnt that a good ending ?. and normany has a distress beacon and if the relays are ok its probably just to search and rescue
its sets up for it to be possible both the leaked script and this

Wait...thats right. If we have an ending with shepard on earth...that means the relays aren't destoyed thus there is hope for future spacefaring civilization.

Oh man~ Stop giving me hope....

Hate to hurst your bubble, but Shepard ends up on Earth after the Citadel appears right next to the earth and Shepard goes there to make his decision.

Are you? Are you seriously..
They actually..?

Oh dear.

The PC version is up on pirate sites right now. We'll be getting more info shortly I'd think. Damn, how does this stuff happen?

...except it's not. It's pretty much standard procedure that there are a lot of fakes popping up shortly before release. The absolute most you will get is a DVDimage rip you won't be able to play until a good couple of days after release.

I find it ironic the "Oh, you want a Deus Ex Machina and everything to be nice? No you won't!", here and there.

Yet, the endings as previously said, are so Deus Ex.

Yeah. I'm dead serious. The Citadel appears near Earth during the big battle. Jesus Shepard ascends to fulfill his destiny of stopping the reapers and no matter the choice, the Normandy is somehow near the Charon Relay and ends up in bufu-Egypt.

It's hilarious, because the non deus ex machina ones bite you in the ass. And those that are... bite you in the ass.
Quite frankly, if we just made them disappear and everything was fixed with some magic device, I'm genuinly convinced Bioware would then say "then shepard die and normandy lost end it really bittersweet so artistic so it good we want good review cus its good".

I really, really wouldn't be surprised at this stage.

If true, it's probably a way to sell "rescue the crew" DLC later...

Am I the only person who laughed at the new updates?

I mean, this and the article about 'How it's better to play ME3 without an import first' and then the blog about 'How the romances about the journeys not the end'...

Seriously! Talk about damage control! xD

Ah, thanks.  It is all over the place as of 47 minutes ago but I wouldn't know if it's real or not.  Other forums were buzzing about it so I went by that.

These leaked endings seem like a really, really bad business move (as evidenced by all the anger in this thread.)

The endings don't bother me as much as the majority, but I understand the anger behind the idea of being attached to your characters for so long, and shelling out a lot of money, and expecting at least one happy ending.

I'm going to remain skeptical until I play the game myself. Or until someone posts pictures of the Normandy crew stranded.
