Ah yes, "endings". The belief in a final event which provides closure on both your life and your loved ones, allegedly resulting from the culmination of your actions. We have dismissed that claim.

I honestly would love if they just ran with the indoctrination theory, who cares if they planned it or not.

Hold the Line

I agree with that. Even if they had not planned it, so many people have put their thoughts into it, that it would be easy for bioware to pick it up and put it in a DLC for us. And for people who are happy with the ending as it is now, well they dont have to get the DLC and can just stick to what they have.

This may have been suggested already (I haven't had time to read all 1100+ pages), but regarding the ending, between the color choices and space magic, I'm beginning to think the Nyan cat is involved somehow :bandit:

In all seriousness, I was really upset with the ending too and Im glad to see so many other people taking a stand and voicing their opinions about it as well ^_^

I had intended to play through ME3 with many different Shepards but I just can't bring myself to do so.  I think I'll leave my Shep in his cabin with his LI at the end of ME2.  After all he's been through, he deserves that a lot more than what awaits him in ME3.

Sorry for cutting it down, but I agree with everything you said, welcome aboard, thanks for putting in your two cents, and of course...hold the line!

Hello all.

I've lurked on these forums for a few years now but never been brave enough to actually sign up and say anything, but having experienced the end of ME3 I felt I had to find some comfort by expressing myself to some like-minded individuals.  I apologise in advance if this is a bit long (and most of what I have to say has already been said by others)

I finished ME3 a couple of days ago and felt hollow and flat when I saw the ending.  To be honest I was quite relieved when I saw this thread and realised you all felt the same way I did.  The Game Front article by Ross Lincoln really sums up my main story issues from the ending and why it was such a let down (and much better than I could articulate).  Like all of you I really enjoyed 95% of the game but the ending was just such a poor way for the whole thing fto inish and made no sense.

From a personal point of view, I will admit I am one of those who is sad that there isn't an option for a 'happy ending'.  I'm not saying all the endings should be happy, or even easy to achieve, but after all that Shepard has been through doesn't he/she deserve at least a chance of happy ending.  I play the ME games for fun and enjoyment and as a way to escape from what ever in the real world is upsetting me.  Saving the Destiny in ME1 or when 'From the Wreckage' kicks in are great uplifting hero moments.  Why would I want to replay a game or buy DLC when there is no chance of a happy ending for the hero.  Asking me to buy DLC after the credits, when it became clear that none of my decisions made much difference also felt off to be honest. ME2 did it better, as you could run the scale from total victory, to victory (but everyone dies).  Didn't Shepard basically tell the Citadel child that without hope there is no point?  Well, without the hope of any victory, Shepard would have been better off getting the crew to some quiet world and just going dark, much like the Protheans on Ilos.

There are plenty of examples of happy endings that would work, such as The Magnificent Seven (It was sad that half of them died but the other had a happy ending).  Even Armageddon had a better sacrifice ending.  Sure it was sad that Harry Stamper died but he saved the world and didn't ruin the transportation system for everyone in the process.

I had intended to play through ME3 with many different Shepards but I just can't bring myself to do so.  I think I'll leave my Shep in his cabin with his LI at the end of ME2.  After all he's been through, he deserves that a lot more than what awaits him in ME3.

Couldn't agree more. I was planning on going through ALL 3 Mass Effects and even get all the first ME dlc (I never got them i honestly started around ME2) and go through ALL the series before playing 3 again. When I saw the ending I was like...no, turned off my xbox and joined the Movement.

Hold the Line!

I don't know if I should feel insulted, angry or sad. Or a combination of those.

17 different endings that are exactly the same outcome. You are suprisingly buttsekksed no matter you like it or not.

I saw some of the Tweets, and am cautiously willing to give Bioware the benefit of the doubt. I just hope they realize the longer they wait the worse this will get, and the less forgiving.

All this "spoiler free" talk generates hope, but at the same time could be a time-buying tactic. I just want some way for a real ending with a final boss fight and Shepard reuniting with LI and crew.

All the "spoiler-free" talk just makes me angry. It insinuates that they had something up their sleeves to begin with, thus they knew they were giving us an incomplete product. Then on top of that, they used false advertising (promising our choices mattered) to get us to buy that incomplete product. That is just ****ing dirty business sense right there. And if their ace in the hole turns out to be DLC we have to pay for... well, that'll just be the nail in the coffin.

You know, all this has made me wonder about the nuclear option. If their interviews can be taken to be advertising, I wonder if it can be argued in a court of law if they are guilty of false advertising.

I honestly think so. I personally use dev interviews as the primary basis for deciding whether or not to buy a game. Sure I look at trailers, but it's so easy to change scenes and sound around to make certain parts seem cooler. Example: Femshep reinstated trailer at the Council meeting Shep says "This isn't about strategy or tactics. This is about survival." She never says that in that particular scene in the final game.

The endings are too farfetched IMO, they were beyond any bit of the story line to give reasons or answers. There were simply too many "what the...? huh?" moments that threw everything around like a hot potato. I'm honestly a paragon through and through, I considered The Illusive Man an intelligent but very clouded individual, and I was dead set on making sure his plans were stopped, simply because his methods were absolutely immoral.

On my first play through i had to shoot him in the end, and i said to myself "ahhh.... finally, his sick and twisted scheme has finally come to an end!" and then i hear Shepard say "So the illusive man was right all along!" and the Illusive Man choice was blue, to symbolize paragon!

My response? You guessed it! "What the...? huh?" The entire thing was completely backwards. Now i didn't care what was what, I was going to finish what i played this ENTIRE GAME to do, 'renegade' or not. That ending showed not only my romance choice could somehow teleport and ended up on the normandy, but the normady was in a mass effect jump too, somehow ending up on a remote planet that just so happened to support life. Then i found Shepard stuck under rubble, alive... besides the theories going around, i had no idea what was going on, but i also realized that my team practically ditched me...

TL:DR - This game felt like running at 1000MPH then tripping off of the edge of a cliff at the finish line. Fun till the end.

Im not interested in punishing Bioware or EA because I didn't like the ending to ME3. Frankly, though I would be fine with Bioware changing the ending, what want is for Bioware know WHY people like me didn't like the ending.

The reason that I didn't like ME3's ending was not that there wasn't a "Happy" ending, or the lack of choice, but because the ending, quite simply, was a bunch of nonsense.

At this point, with all the negative publicity Mass Effect 3 is getting quite literally EVERYWHERE, I believe it's only a matter of time until something is done. Barely over a week since release, and stocks have dropped, game prices have dropped, and everything short of riots have occurred.

Any Bioware/EA statement saying we're just going to have to deal with it is the equivalent of the Council denying Reaper existence. They're going to get royally screwed in the long run.

Am I the only one who gets some satisfaction watching their stock prices get lower and lower?

It gave me a warm fuzzy feeling I have to say.  Not to mention it gives teeth to the warning that screwing over a beloved series is bad buisness.

I have to say that EA have had it coming for ages, but I would hate for Bioware to go under because to be honest, the ending was the only bad thing about this game, the rest of it was perfect. Plus look back at their record of games and you will see that they have all been great (except maybe DA2). It's just a shame that Bioware either ran out of time for the ending or wanted to keep out the ending spoilers. Hopefully they can heal their reputation slightly with a fantastic ending DLC.

Can't help but feel sad for Bioware, they've done a great job up until this ending. And even if they fix it, they've lost a lot as a result of this mistake. Mass Effect 3 was a beautiful game, ending aside. The whole series was wonderful...
I just hope that they can make it right again.

I'm really sorry for Bioware too, Mass effect 3 is a great game, maybe one of the best sci-fi rpg ever. Seeing such a wonderful series ending THIS bad make my heart bleed.
What makes me angry is that anyone is givin us an answer. What, cant they take their own responsibilities? God, I could live with that ending, if only Bioware is going to tell me THAT was the way they wanted it to end. (Thing that I, honestly, cant believe at all)

Finished last night. I was already kinda spoiled to the endings, so it softened the blow a bit. I didn't know how to feel when I finished, I guess my initial thought was "that's it?" I'm still hoping  the indoctrination theory is true because it seems to make more sense than those events actually happening. The ending was kindof outta left field, too high fantasy, I want a more "down to earth" ending... And what was up with that ascending platform?
